BidAsk has passed
I just heard that BidAsk passed away last weekend. Dan was one of the most enthusiastic collector/dealers in the game. He started buying and selling as a kid, like so many of us have done, and then moved on to a successful career as a financial advisor. But he would still follow and participate in the auctions, and occasionally set up at a coin show with a great selection of mostly world coins. I don’t think he ever really specialized in anything until the past 5-10 years, when he became a very serious collector of Mexican Cap and Rays 8 Reales. I still remember encouraging him to stick with the project, yet doubting that he could stay focused on it. But he did stick with it, and his collection was very much on track for greatness. Sad to see him go, but he sure had fun playing coins with us!

Sad to hear this.
Thank you for letting everyone know.
Sad news. Always enjoyed his posts here.

Dan was a collector of there ever was one. He was also generous in selling his coins with some of my best coins coming from Dan.
I hope to add a Cap & Rays from the Bidask collection one day to always remember him by.
RIP

Unfortunately I got that call today too and am deeply saddened. Dan was one of the most generous people that I have ever met in my life. I sold my collection of cap and rays to him about 5 years ago because he truly enjoyed them more than I did. He last emailed me on March 5th and told me his cancer and returned and keep praying for him.
Many of his coins are for sale at Heritage where bidding opens in March and May.
Truly going to miss him as I know many of you will too.

That is sad news. He was very enthusiastic about his Cap and Rays.
Cancer sucks.
RIP.
Very sad…
I think I met him at the NY International probably 12-15 years ago. My sincere condolences to his family and those that knew him well. He will be missed…
Edited to add- after checking some older threads/posts, it would have been in 2007- 19 years ago
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Sad news indeed. Condolences to his family.
I was going to post a coin from him, but I realized they are all NGC coins without good photos.
Found it! My favorite Bidask coin:

I think this is the one that didn’t cross for him and he sold it to you and it crossed lol.

Wow, what a loss. I will miss Dan. I remember showing him a coin I bought from him 16 years ago and he was like "oh, i remember that one - you got it from me at the CICF in 2008". I will miss our conversations about coins and markets. And I hope his kids continue the legacy as his Cap and Rays collection deserves to be finished (or as close to finished as possible, given the gargantuan nature of that task).
RIP Dan.
That’s a huge loss, a bastion of the community, condolences to his friends and family
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
Tremendous loss. Thank you for sharing the news. I enjoyed speaking with him at USMex bourses and there once talked him into selling me a fantastic pillar dollar that is a pillar of my collection. Thanks, Dan, it is much appreciated:

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
God, sorry to hear this. Always positive on here, never a sour word... and what a C&R collection (plus others). Was surprised when he was backing off the project, obvious why now. Geez.
I loved his enthusiasm. It was so clear in his posts. Sad news.

I always enjoyed his posts here. Very sorry to hear of his passing.
Very sad news - he was one of the most engaged collectors/dealers with a very broad appetite for nice coins!. I had dinner with Dan and his son a few years back at the NY International. Probably one of the more passionate collectors out there -
A couple of coins I was able to buy from Dan:
TalerUniverse.com is a curated numismatic project dedicated to the silver talers, crowns, and medals of the Habsburg Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, spanning the 16th–18th centuries. The collection emphasizes historically significant issues, rare mint varieties, and high-grade NGC/PCGS examples, presented with detailed historical context, scholarly references, and high-resolution photography. TalerUniverse aims to serve both as a private collection showcase and a growing reference resource for collectors, researchers, and students of early-modern European coinage.
I’m so sorry to hear this. I did not know Dan well, but he was always friendly and enthusiastic in his passion for rare world coins.
I would have liked to know him better.
I recall this post by Dan end of 2025 - https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1119195/i-have-an-easy-question-i-should-know-the-answer-but-i-don-t#latest

I'm heartbroken to hear this news. I met Dan, and his son, at the New York international coin show a few years back. I purchased several coins from him at that time which I consider very important to my collection. I'm glad to have that small connection to him. I very much enjoyed his presence here. My deepest sympathies to his family. So sad and so sorry.
A few of the coins that I had bought from Dan.

Very sad, we communicated over the years, what a stand up guy.
RIP Dan.
