Probably? I was tracking that coin just out of curiosity over the weekend and it didn't seem like that fantastic of an example.

Considering it went for way over CAC CPG $12.5 k seems to reflect a bid war between 2 rich collectors.

I have run into this many times. I am not a rattle holderer fan, and this is not in my area of interest. Still the idea that all rattle holders contain under graded coins runs deep for many people. While the grading can be conservative, it's conservative enough to rate this kind of premium unless it had a gold CAC sticker. Given that it has no sticker, I think that the winner overpaid.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I am not a rattler fan either. Years ago had several sent in see if upgrade and basically broke even after costs to cross. Many rotate in the holder….dealer setup yrs ago recall tap tap on table get them straight position.

I saw that and was like I would spend 10k on that. If I would jump to the price of a nice used civic several people saw new Civic money

    Wow…Just wow.

Yes, people go NUTS over rattlers.

I find that breaking them out and upgrading is NOT always as good as leaving them be, especially, if they have a CAC sticker.

Prices realized are HIGHER that way, as once they’re gone…they’re gone and so is the allure…

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
