That is a planchet artifact. Between the circular denticles and outer octagon, there is incuse lettering. In this region much of the planchet is not contacted by the dies. So whatever surface features the planchet has, they will tend to show in the border areas.

Mintage Figures of the 2026 Medals
Hi Everyone,
Just a brief note about the mintages of the silver medals:
Although Mr. Carr writes that the mintage of the thin silver medal is 56 and the thick silver is 39, this is a little misleading when it comes to availability. Six of the 56 were reserved by him and are unavailable to the public. For the thick silver, only 35 are available to the public. The rest are for his collection.
Here's a couple of interesting facts about our medals:
the silver medals have an average weight of about 32.55 grams (or a little more the one troy ounce at 31.10 grams)
the silver piedfort medals have an average weight of about 64.22 grams
the thin copper medal has a average weight of 28.55 grams (or a little more the one avoirdupois ounce at 28.35 grams)
the thick copper medal has a average weight of 38.62 grams

I pondered your heads up post and decided to add the 1776. large cent overstrike with 13 States Chain links reverse. I went thru the handful of the new offers and chose it. I could not find anything about it on production blog however I think it's a very nice & thought provoking 1776 dated fantasy with Chain Reverse.
. @dcarr - Can you expand a bit on Zachary Askeland's initials (ZA) added to the 2025 Norse American Bicentennial octagon?
.
He is a friend of mine from local coin shows and coin club meetings. He is also of Norwegian ancestry. He proposed that these be made and we split the mintage between us. I sold most of mine (but kept a few examples). Zachary is not selling his. He gave some to extended family members.
.
Great backstory, Dan

I like the Moonlight Mint 1776 Cent die as it plays well with 1776~2026 USMINT pennies which I am subscribed to too.
In the meantime, last 24 hours I have encountered 3 Carr Art items that I had to add to the archive. Last 3 months I was certain I am on shopping hiatus, but I would have regretted seeing the trio go elsewhere.
My 1776 dot WE ARE ONE fantasy arrived from fleabay seller who is just up the road a bit from me. I had it in my hands before the website 30 made went out of stock & before they existed on production blog. I liked it and closed the offer. Thought about getting more once I had mine in hand, then there were no more.
I did not get anything factory direct in the latest tranche of Moonlight Mint offers.
Some of my favorite Carr items arrived second hand.

If on both sides then maybe incomplete straight clip punch, thus error.
If just one side & I see no movement in the line, but it looks prestrike, then I got nothing for you Chief.
