    Yes it is !
Very cool issue with TWENTY DOLLARS on reverse.
Gold almost hit $5,600 after my post.
I haven't sold a coin in over a decade but the metals madness has me wondering.
"Should I stay or should I go now ?"

That is the dilemma now @Mr Lindy

I have 3 DE's by Dan (1848CAL, 1908-O and the Winged Saint) and at this point I have to believe they would be melted if sold. I always wanted your kind of Saint but now it becomes very costly. Same with mine. I know a guy that sold one for $2700 and was happy at that time. Now it doubled in a year.

  • Alpha2814Alpha2814 Posts: 284 ✭✭✭

I hate to think these pieces would ever be melted but here we are. I have one of Dan's Stellas and a $5 Indian but none of the DEs. As if the current spot price weren't bad enough, my annual insurance payments are due next week and tax time is coming up. It's a tight time.

  • TomBTomB Posts: 22,864 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't like the idea of these being melted, or of any US or foreign coinage being melted, but it is what it is. The pieces that I have will stay with me until they don't and I am hoping that means they stay with me for quite a while. Really, though, once you sell a coin or token or whatever then it is gone and you have to accept that.

@Alpha2814 I would suspect you would get multiple folks interested in your pieces if you decide to sell. I know I would happily buy a DC Stella if offered one, but I have not gone out of my way to look for them.

I'm confused according to MCCC there is supposed to be a 2 troy oz. silver piedfort token, but it's not listed in the production schedule.

For the club's silver jubilee, the club will have four 41mm octagonal medals minted. They are:

    a copper medal,
a one troy ounce .999 silver medal,
    a copper piedfort, and
a two troy ounce .999 silver piedfort.

I was thankful to see gold drop as much as it did today. The DC Double Eagles were starting to get worried. They feel safe again.

I’m a member of MCCC and have a few of the Piedfort (double thickness) copper coins coming. Dan minted a copy of the incuse Indian head quarter/half eagle last year in copper that was spectacular. I suspect this years version of the draped bust/heraldic eagle reverse dollar will be outstanding in copper as well. These will be big girls at 41mm and two oz of octagonal copper. I’m excited to fondle it.

Picked up a couple of "obligatory" pieces over the past week.

I didn't have anything to represent this area of DC's creations, so I went with a couple of what I consider "half breeds," but the quality and detail of the design and engraving still shines through . . . . . .

    They were inexpensive enough.

    Yes, I'm seeing (~12,500) + 9 for the "B" die pairing.

    With these notes:

    1) The larger quantity listed was antiqued outside of Moonlight Mint using a blackening & wire-brushing technique.
These have a different appearance, were marketed by a promotor, and do not include Moonlight Mint certificates.
The smaller quantity listed was antiqued at Moonlight Mint using a patina & hand-burnishing process.
This type includes Moonlight Mint certificates and is sold exclusively by Moonlight Mint & www.DC_Coin.com.
    2) An additional quantity was struck independently by Dave Emslie using the same dies.
Those additional pieces exhibit die sanding and shallower details below the ship.

It could be the ZoidMeister's piece is among the "smaller quantity listed was antiqued at Moonlight Mint using a patina & hand-burnishing process. This type includes Moonlight Mint certificates" ... I don't know. If it were me, I'd rather have one of the pieces that came with the Moonlight Mint CoA. Perhaps @ZoidMeister can elaborate.

Yes, there was a typographical error.
Footnote 4 should indicate the edge mark is "2 TROY OZ" (now corrected, thanks for pointing that out).

The dies are ready and all the planchets are ready, so all I need to do now is strike them and edge-mark them.

The cob shown does not appear to be one that I antiqued. It looks like the other type that has patina and wire-brushing (done outside Moonlight Mint). At one time, it probably had a mintage of 6,650 listed. But more were made and the figure now stands at "~12,500". No more of that type are planned.

I was on a road trip (not coin related) for the past week. While I was gone, the SSL certificate with Network Solutions expired. But I had it on "auto-renew" in my account. I came back from my trip to find that the store was inaccessible and I had a couple dozen email inquiries about it to respond to. And I also have to write this explanation here.

I contacted Network Solutions via their on-line support "chat". The person at the other end looked into it and fixed it in a couple minutes. I then demanded a refund or some sort of credit or compensation for the week that my store was down, due to THEIR error. I vehemently complained and the best they would do is offer a $230 discount if I renewed the eCommerce service. I could probably have obtained that discount anyway. But here is the catch: I would have to renew now and pay six months in advance since it is not up for renewal until October. It was all rather pathetic.
