Would this coin conserve?

    What would be the purpose? That date is pretty low value until you get into MS grades.

    The coin was called "vf" by the guy I bought it from but it looks like an AU to me with lots of supressed luster due to originality. Copper and cn coins have permanent issues with spots but not usually with silver coins.

    He net graded it. A black spot in a bad spot like that on the face can lower the monetary value by two grades.

    That spot probably won’t dip off. If you force the issue, it could look worse and will always leave a mark.

    It sorta looks like tarry crud, if it is then you could probably make at least some come off with acetone.

    Agree, and great old throwback ad!
    I would at least try the acetone soak.
    There seems to be a number of spots on the obverse, and perhaps it will help.

    You don’t have much to lose trying to conserve an inexpensive common date coin.

    Negative. It is cleaned (old cleaning). Probably market acceptable, but not gradable according to PCGS.
