Are you Building a Box of 20? Sharing mine (thus far)
While I collect and possess more than 20 coins, I like the idea of the box of 20 for including collection favorites. I have "placed" 12 thus far for my box and, as you can see, several seated halves are included among other type coins since that is my main interest. If you have a collection of selected favorites, please join my thread and share!

I like the proof WLH. I hope to add one to my collection some day.
Great coins! I especially admire the 1840-O and 1860 seated halves!
I do not have a "box of 20" although I've been shrinking and improving my collection for many years now.
Great showcase! That 1883 50c really stood out to me.
I am not putting together a box of 20 per se but my gold collection is similar in terms of philosophy and size.

Dang @Catbert - That's a helluva nice start on your way to 20. I love the 52 Half and proof Buffalo. The Walker ain't to ugly either.

It’s a concept I’ve always loved.
In fact I love it so much I have 2! One for US and the other for Dark Side. Whittling it down to 20 from there would be tortuous.
Outstanding coins btw @catbert. I need to set up that PCGS showcase thingy.
Great Color on that 1860 Half dollar, thanks for sharing.
I am currently building my first PCGS box-o-twenty and hope to share with the group upon its completion (12 down 8 to go) same as you
It's all about what the people want...
very nice color pieces ... if you have 8 more to go, does this mean that others in your collection will not be consider for this showcase and thus will you only focus on pieces that meet you stated Box of 20 goals going forward?

I like the box of 20 concept. I always use it when building a set. Start with the box of 20 and then, once it’s filled, I keep going. But the box of 20 is a good goal to have. Completing it is a serious accomplishment. I’ve done it with four different series. I use it as a building tool.

Love the box Dan ... we know that is just the tip of the iceberg, but those are very cool selections.
I especially liked this comment;
This coin is ridiculous in terms of eye appeal ... and my willingness to pay the premium to own it!
Love it!

I'm in the midst of a "box of 20." It's a long-term project, with no particular "theme" other than that the coin appealed to me enough to buy and doesn't belong in any other "set" I collect.
It's too bad you don't like Seated halves.
Seriously, I love the idea of having the discipline to build a Bo20. However, aside from the mental gymnastics of building one in my head, I could never attempt it. I really adore so many of the coins you have in there, but will pick out the proof Buffalo as my favorite, given only the images to guide me in my choice.
Thank you for sharing these. It might spur some of us (like me) to post one of these, too.

Holy Cow @lermish! What a group. It's too bad you don't have any of the 1857-S issues, though.

I like the idea of either multiple boxes of twenty or adding numbers behind the last digit just to keep up appearances that there is a shred of discipline somewhere...

That's quite a collection of DOGS (dirty old gold), Jeremy. I enjoyed perusing. Love that slug in particular.

What an absolutely spectacular box of 12 (eventually to be 20). Congratulations on owning those beauties. Tough to pick favorites, but for me, I’ll go for your 1860 Half, and Proof Buff Nickel. On the latter, I love the luster.
As you requested, here are a couple of mine that would be in my theoretical box. I’m a “luster whore” - show me an old but super lustrous coin that requires you wear sunglasses to avoid going blind, and I’ll do anything asked of me, lol:
With Indian Head Cents, sure, it’s easy to have a Red one from the 1900’s be very lustrous. But this one, 40 years older than those, takes the cake!
Like the above IHC, this 1936 Buff PCGS PR67+ w/CAC is way more blinding in-hand than can be captured in photos. Any “distractions” you see on this one are caused by light reflections, and are not on the coin:

Good question. No, these are just favorites. The one's shown in the 20 box would be ones for which I'd have great difficulty in letting go.
Beyond a few type examples, I have a few sets I'm building and if a coin bought for a set is extraordinary in my mind, it would be included. I'm not restricting my purchases to ones that only fit the 20 criteria.

The 1860 half is a beauty, looks under-graded, I love what you did so far here.
I've actually never seen a copper-nickel IHC in such a high grade and that is actually nicer than I would have ever thought! The buffalo is very nice too but I think the IHC was just more eye-catching for me. It's an absolute stunner of a coin!

- Someone, probably
See the link in my signature line. I recently thinned the herd, but still think I have a few more than 20!
@Catbert - that 1937 Buffalo Proof - WOW!
My current "Box of 20"
That's a spectacular group of coins @Catbert !
I like all of them a lot, but I love the 1852 50C MS65 and the 1937 5C PR66+!
The 1864 Indian Cent shown is Bronze, not Copper-Nickel.

Each one is beautiful Cat, you have a great eye for quality regardless of grade.....the sign of a seasoned numismatist. My favorite, I'm going to give it to your semi-crusty Eliasberg...Just cause it's soooooo yummy good.
So about 7 years ago I sold my entire collection to build my house. The kids these days have expensive hobbies so I've had a hard time get any resemblance of a collection going. So I've decided to try and do an OGH box of 20 with a budget in mind. Nothing over 3 figures. I've only managed to put 4 coins in so far but again money is tough to come by.
