VIDEOS ADDED ->Across-the-street (NGC) graded Peace on eBay - maybe better in hand?
An image from an NGC graded Peace Dollar on eBay. So do we think these colors look the way they do because of sub-optimal photography or does it really have that "covered in thick muck" look in hand?

I would not expect a raw EBay coin to be nicer than its photos but you may get lucky, you kind of just need to wait and see. Hopefully, you got a great price. Did it have a reverse photo or did you just buy it from the obverse photo?

Here's the reverse pic, actually how flat that one looks maybe points to maybe bad photography?

Took me a couple of seconds to figure out your NGC decode. Might be NT and look better in hand. Is it a 23 P, D or S?

Some collectors like heavy toning, and it is not that common on a graded Peace dollar. I would wait to see what it looks like in hand, who knows?

I think the new owner will be pleased.
I've seen toned coins photographed like that- using either natural light, straight on and the coins are beautiful even though
the photo is most of the time, not.0 -
I would guess it is a solid coin but I would not expect a high end toner. It is priced at ~380 on eBay from a seller that knows his toners. If it was nicer, the price would be higher since toned Peace Dollars with exceptional color bring big premiums.

Welp I bit and bought it. I'll post a pic when I get it. The sellers image doesn't seem to be "juiced", the colors on the actual holder seem to be OK and marks on the holder that pass over both the holder and the coin don't seem to have any unnatural transitions between them. Of course someone good at photoshop could do that, but I'm hoping that between the trouble it would take to do that and the sellers 100% eBay reputation that's unlikely. I am worried though that the colors on the coin aren't toning but are actually just muck on the coin, but hopefully a grade of NGC MS64 precludes this. If those actually are toning colors as I hope I expect to be quite happy with it. Although it doesn't have the dazzling rainbow effects that would be required to bring the price into the stratosphere, multi-colored toning on Peace Dollars is unusual enough on them, even with the mottled colors on this piece.

OK to me it looks like that exactly what he's doing. Compare his overhead pics to the TrueView he's included to an angle shot he's done

OK so I received the coin. It is quite nice and I am quite happy, but I see why imaging this coin well was so tough. It's got multi-colored mottled toning all around the coin, so getting good colors on an image from one "corner" of the coin washes out the colors on the opposite side. Plus the holder has seen better days so you also have to worry about catching the slab scratches too. I'll try more later to get a decent image.

Ok so there's no way I'm going to be able to take decent enough photos to show all the sparkling of colors this has, so I figured I'd post videos instead. Hopefully they show this coin well
