My most recent purchase. I'm not really focused on building a set, i just pick up decent examples when I can find them.
That's a nice 66 motto! They are not common, either.
That's how set building starts. At least that's how it started for me, except I was looking for decent raw coins for a Dansco. The 66 motto was one of those initial coins I purchased.

I was watching it on eBay and the seller sent me an offer, caught me at a good time. Half dollars are my favorite denomination, whatever other denominations i pursue for a while, i always circle back to half dollars.

Same here regarding half dollars. I used to like seated dimes until I became far-sighted in middle age. That's when I switched to half dollars and eventually settled on Seated Liberty halves, Barber halves, classic commemorative halves, and Newfoundland halves. My 1866 was one of the first SLHs I purchased raw off of eBay and remains one of my favorite SLHs. It spurred me on to continue collecting them.

IT's a beautiful set. I picked up the unopened box of 5 years ago because I like the mystery of them never been seen before.
I opened about 150 proof sets from 1955 to 1963, I just could not take it seeing those unopened envelopes and thinking if I sold them someone else will have all the fun. But these sets I plan on holding on to unopened.
I think the sets are readily available, but not sure unopened.
A Walking Liberty Half I submitted to PCGS back in January that came back MS64. I love the luster of it! Not necessarily a new purchase but one of my favorites for sure.

Here is my favorite half dollar, a 1795 Flowing Hair type. It's my favorite because it's so hard to find one that looks like this.
I have to thank CAC for rejecting it. If they are accepted it, I could not have afforded it. It is the finest known example of the Overton 120 which is an R-6 rated variety. It's the finest known by a wide margin. The runnerup is an EF, cleaned.
This was was once in an NGC MS-62 holder. It's now in a PCGS AU-58 holder, which is much more reasonable.
You can pay a lot of money for this type, and still have it look like this.
The next on my list of favorite half dollars is this 1936. It was the first collectable Proof Walker. This one is PCGS graded PR-66.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Posted a week or so ago in the Seated Coinage thread, but it also belongs here. Original mintage of only 10,000, yet they’re not hard to come by.

This is an interesting one. It's not rare or particularly valuable, but I like it because it was struck from very worn dies, especially the reverse.
Here's my pair of colorful PR62 CAC OGH Barbies

I picked this one up on eBay this past week.
Couple of type proofs:

Paid an arm and a leg for this one. Coins are going for crazy prices these days.
