    Looks like they are going through with it! I think this is a bad move - but we'll see.............

    Report: Clippers trade James Harden to Cavaliers for Darius Garland
    LA is reportedly sending the 11-time All-Star guard to Cleveland for Garland and a 2nd-round draft pick.

    now that we are almost at the end of football season, I suppose i will need to fill my time with a little basketball until the baseball regular season starts up.

    I generally do not pay much attention to the NBA until football is over and then, really not until the playoffs start. I do have a little extra interest this year though as a local kid to my city is getting some national attention.

    some kid named Cooper Flagg. you may have heard of him...

    he grew up about 25 minutes from me. he has had a really good season so far, but has been fantastic the last 3 games: 49, 34 and 36 points. pretty good for a teenager!

    I may grab a few really low end ones, but i am not much of a basketball collector. He has generated a LOT of interest up here though. they have been talking about him locally even when he was in middle school. He also has a twin brother, but he is not nearly as talented. He is playing for the UMaine Blackbears this season. Cooper gets all the love though. must be hard to be the "other" brother.

    Those are "ya gotta be kidding me" stats for a rookie. Even though he was the first pick in the NBA draft last year.

    yeah, he appears to be the real deal. at least so far. those 49 points are the most ever in one game by a teenager

    it would be cool to see him net 50 before he turns 20 next December.

    The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly agreed to a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards centered around 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania.

    "BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, 2 first-round picks and 3 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on his X account.

    "Dallas is receiving a 2026 Thunder first-round pick and a 2030 protected Warriors first-round pick in this deal from the Wizards along with second rounders in 2026 (Phoenix), 2027 (Chicago) and 2029 (Houston), sources tell ESPN."

    I don't know why Utah would want this bum but who cares.........at least he's out of Cleveland........ :D

    Guess we'll see what kind of team OKC is without SGA........

    Oklahoma City Thunder star and reigning Kia MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has suffered an abdominal strain and will be reevaluated after the All-Star break, the team announced Wednesday.

    He is out for Wednesday’s road game against the San Antonio Spurs (9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) and will miss OKC’s other four games before the All-Star break. Per ESPN, Gilgeous-Alexander will also not be available to play for Team World in the 2026 All-Star Game.

    Regarding the GS Warriors of 2025-2026, a few points:

    1. Draymond Green is in a decline and his performance this season is not even remotely close to that of his prior years. He is also difficult to deal with;

    2. Jimmy Butler was a good acquisition a year ago, but his recent injury will take about a year to heal; and when he returns to the court a year from now who knows how well he will be able to perform. His massive contract is one that may not be supported by the quality of his play;

    3. Stephen Curry is still one of the top players in the league but his performance this year is less than it has been in prior years. He will turn 38 in March. He is getting more injury prone and it is unrealistic to think that he will be able to carry the team on his shoulders to another title. He needs significant help (which the current roster is not able to give him on a consistent basis);

    4. Porzingas. Yesterday's trade for Porzingas is not one that will get people excited, for the simple reason that Porzingas is injury prone (he has played in only 17 games this year so far). His lack of durability will not provide GS with what it needs;

    5. Thinking that the only thing desirable is keeping Curry playing and hoping that management can build rosters of older free agents that can help the team win title #5 in the Curry era is an unrealizable fantasy. Following this path will likely only lead to a couple of more years (at best) with Curry on the roster and mediocre records (with no playoff appearances, or quick playoff exits) after which Curry will retire and GS will have to spend many years trying to rebuild.

    I think that for the long term health of the franchise, ownership and management should shift focus toward a rebuild. Stock up on draft picks, trade or release some or all players on the roster who are over 28 and who while younger than 28 have not demonstrated that they have the talent to be a player that deserves 25 plus minutes per game. Trade Curry to a franchise (Knicks, Charlotte) who would love to have him for his remaining years and obtain multiple 1st round draft picks for Curry that will help the franchise rebuild.

    The remainder of this GS season looks to be one where the team will not rise in the standings and will likely drop, even to the point of missing the play in tournament.

    my man Cooper is on a heater. first teenager to have 4 consecutive 30+ point games (in fact, he was also the first teenager to have 3 consecutive 30+ point games)

    not even to the all star break yet, but how do you guys think he compares to rookie LeBron?

    MIAMI (AP) Bam Adebayo scored 83 points, the second-best scoring effort in NBA history, to carry the Miami Heat to a 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night.

    Adebayo had 31 points in the first quarter, 43 by halftime and 62 by the end of the third quarter. He finished 20 for 43 from the field, 36 for 43 from the foul line and 7 for 22 from 3-point range.

    Adebayo's free throw makes and attempts both set NBA records for a game. The record for attempts was 39 by Dwight Howard - who got to the line that many times on two occasions. The record for free throws made in a game was 28, set by Wilt Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley.

    I thought Philly was going to smash NY, they are cooked being down 0-3, I guess beating the Celtics wasn't all that big of a deal

    After never watching a Spurs game until the Wolves series, I've never seen a player like Wemby.

    Shooting threes, dribbling the ball like a guard, passing, blocked shots, 90% free throws, and just his presence in the middle. He single-handled won the game for SAS last night.

    I can see why they call him the unicorn.

    They also have a slew of pretty talented guards. The other part about them I like is that they don't flop all over the place like OKC.

    Surprised the Wolves came back last night after how bad of a third quarter they displayed.

    Watching them can be infuriating. I'm not a fan of Finch, but everyone likes to talk about what a great guy he is. I think they're winning despite him. Bad rotations/subs/lineups/challenges. Not sure some of the players listen to him or anyone for that matter. He also needs to yank guys off the court more often to send messages.

    Not being able to inbound the ball in the NBA is next-level inepitude.

    I don't think they suspend Wemby & I think he is better than Jokic because of what he does defensively. He simply shuts down the whole area around the basket & it was evident yesterday how day & night it is when he's not in the game. Both great players but I think Wemby is who I would want #1 on my team.

    I also like that he does NOT whine and flop often. In fact, I thought it was pretty cool he showed that aggression with the elbow - he got his money's worth. I liked that the refs last night let things get chippier than any other game in the series. They were a younger and better crew - best I've seen. They have some fossils they need to force to retire reffing the games.

    Enjoy your collection!

    no question. Wemby alters games in ways that will never show up in a box score. if i had a dollar for every time a player made a strong move to the basket, only for it to be rerouted due to the pterodactyl waiting on him, i'd have a lot of cash on hand. if Wemby wasn't there, it was a deuce many times over. San Antonio is not even close to being the same team without him on the court.

    He sure played happy last nigh and has been a good fit in the playoffs. He can be a little sloppy at times but he still has the skills that have made him a special player. On to Cleveland and game six. Detroit has been up against the wall before so it should be a good game.

    i want Cleveland to prevail, primarily because i'd like to see Harden go deep in the playoffs for once

    but Detroit got screwed. really screwed.

    if you didn't watch this game, pay close attention to the final couple of seconds in regulation. Ausar Thompson got tripped and went to the ground...........no whistle. at any other point in the game a foul is called, guaranteed. all he would have had to do is make one free throw and instead of 3-2, it's 2-3

    Not to disagree with your point, but if the Officials in every sport called things consistently, never seemed to favor a player or team and didn’t miss anything it would be strange. If you rewatch that entire game(I haven’t and I won’t) I am confident you’d see countless infractions that were missed or called wrong. It’s the nature of the beast, having humans judge.

    FWIW, the Official stated that he didn’t want to see the game end like that with no time on the clock.

    The NFL comparisons are much worse. The one that turns me away is how a WR and DB fight going down the field and nothing is called with the announcers saying “I’m glad they’re letting them play” while fans go crazy over phantom calls at crucial times in a game.

    and there you have it. the rules are different when the outcome is on the line. no one wants to see a pivotal game like that end in such a manner -- including me -- but what i don't want to see more are infractions not being called when they should be. either it was a foul or it wasn't, and when a guy is going after a loose ball but is taken to the ground by a member of the opposing team, that's textbook. perhaps i view things differently, but i don't care what happened at any other point in the game. some people are saying, yeah, but Detroit had a 9-point lead with 3 minutes left and it shouldn't have come to that. i really don't like the yeah but game. i'm a snapshot in time kinda guy, and police it based on its merits. but that's just me. and again, i want Cleveland to stay alive.

    here's Cade Cunningham talking about it, along with the play again. curious to get the opinions of other members of this forum who might be following this thread.

    edit: watch James Harden. after Thompson goes to the ground he raises his hands almost as if to say, oh pop tarts, i think we just lost this game

    about as disgusting a performance as you'll ever see. your boys came back and stole G5 to take it back home and finish off the Pistons, then they proceeded to play like complete dogs and get their asses kicked. that's pretty much what a team with James Harden on it does

    there are no guarantees, obviously, but i'd be shocked it they went back to Detroit and won on Sunday

    To lose a pivotal game like that by that many points AT HOME is an embarrassment. All series the Cavs have trouble with turnovers and they must have had almost twenty yesterday.
