Wonder what the Mint is up to on its platinum offerings?

I did a search for 'Platinum' and got this result..............

I ended up cancelling my 2024 platinum purchases so those should come available again soon. The price dipping didn't help but I messed up the payment again with Paypal. It seems like the when you make large purchases with Paypal it defaults to bank withdrawal rather than credit card.

The only way to avoid PayPal charging your bank account is to remove bank account from your PayPal wallet. I learnt this the hard way.

The APE's were available in many venues when it appeared few wanted them at less than half the prices they are commanding now when they can be located. USM don't even have them listed on their site. Glad I made the contrarian decision and scored a few MS and PR 70's when they were between $1000 qnd $1200 all in.

They may be canceling the whole platinum program as they canceled products from last year like the silver limited set and others.

No cancellation. The platinum page is back. 2023 & 2024 available for sale at $3245.

When I bought that 2025-W plat proof for $2,345 I thought I was taking a bit of a gamble. Just goes to show even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.

I have loved my platinum, eagles and others, even when they were largely unloved.
I certainly super-love my palladium eagles but the early 2000 MS ‘reverse proof’ platinums were just stunners.

Now riding the swell in PM's and surf.

You were indeed taking a gamble. But it was a smart one, hedged by the fact that it was actually under spot at the time. Despite the gyrations, it worked out.

But don't sell yourself short. It wasn't a blind stab. It was an intelligent shot, and it paid off.

Just don't jinx it. Because, given the straight line up, a big drop is not out of the question. It's worth remember that everything always looks best at the very top.

Also you can buy from US Mint with a credit card to get cashback or miles for an additional discount.

True. But that's not a reason to throw thousands of dollars at something you don't otherwise want, that typically sell for significant premiums.

That was a game once upon a time when the Mint sold Presidential Dollar coins at face value, with free shipping. Not with precious metal numismatic coins. Points and miles are a nice bonus, but they do not drive the economics here.

Is there a reason the 2018-W 1oz American Proof doesn't get posted much or discussed? Its $2404 at JM Bullion (QTY 280 left in stock). Is it a really unpopular coin or something? Seems to be a decent price for the bullion alone. Also Monument Metals sold out of their 1oz Maples which is interesting.

It's probably more the fact that they made too many of them.

If the uploaded inventory number is accurate then the 2026 Proof Platinum will end up the fourth lowest mintage of the series after 2008, 2014 and 2015. These reflect the latest numbers.

    "2026 5,235 * Uploaded inventory"

Don't forget that last week the Big-Boys made a purchase of 1167 coins.

It looks like a Mintage of 7000 Pt coins were authorized to be struck.

Will all 6985 coins be sold at some point? Probably.... Right-Click pic for Zoom ⇊ (edit for math)

Good catch! It looks like they presold 858 to dealers, so that has to be added to the inventory of 5,843. So total is 6,701 so far.

    Ouch

    Check that..............$2,945

    Now $2,895

Price down $50 after repricing Wednesday.

ATS 4537 They sold a little over 1,300 in 45 minutes.

  • Wow Im surprised people are buying those 2026 at this price level with all the volatility. JM Bullion sold out of the 2018-W 1oz. I picked up a couple at ~$2250.

Monument, JM Bullion, Hero all seem to be near sold out of 1oz platinum. Price action seems to be related to paper trading.

There's a built in demand for every new mint release. I don't think it's unusual. I also think that with prince increase just as likely as further price drop, some people are more comfortable to lock in the current price than gamble.

After the initial rush of orders in the first 45, how has it gone since?

  • ATS is at 4185 right now. I want this coin, but i think the price should be lower and i'm waiting for a repricing next week if its still there.

Question for those that have the 2026 Pt eagle in hand. How is the quality? Flaws? Excellent??
    Thanks

Mine arrived and looks OK. There's a tick in the field, I don't know that makes it a 69 or not but I will let PCGS put a number on it.

These are +$50 this week and will probably be higher next week.

I'm waiting for the 2nd amendment coin.

    .

I'd like the Mint to finish the First Amendment coins. There are six clauses in the First Amendment, but the platinum coins only celebrate five of the clauses. I bet I know why the 6th was left out, but I won't comment further.
