That's cool that they gave them a 1975 provenance from the mint set. I didn't realize they did that.

They come with a Quarter too. I didn't have a photo of my Quarter readily available.

    “Gimmicky” NEWP:

I consider this “gimmicky” as the intent for minting (only 31) of these was to effect small transactions during the coin hoarding period of the Civil War. Fractional currency turned out to be a better solution so these never saw much use.

I'd take that "gimmick" any time. Very Nice!

The Binion Story was big years ago in Nevada. Honestly...my finger nails are clean...LOL. Take care...CC

Nice coin for a Binion. Interesting story goes with these having been buried in a vault built in the desert. I'm guilty of having one of these too. I took it a step further and bought a gambling chip from Binion's. I also remember watching the trial on TV.

O.K. Now I need a chip...very nice. Way before the internet the newspapers were plastered with the story...it was everywhere in Nevada. It was somewhat of a mirror of the Redfield hoard which still held some interest. As a young man the Redfield hoard was taught in school. Take care and thanks for the discussion. CC

They're all over eBay. Some come graded "Brilliant Uncirculated" and some are MS64, MS65, etc.
They're also available for Proof coins.
To go with my "Lost Year" coins I also have one of each 1975-Dated canvas mint bags for the Quarter, Half, and Dollar. Cool set to me, maybe not so cool to others.

Being a physicist, this neutron irradiated “gimmick” was pretty much an instant purchase for me.

I've always like these and used to have a few in my collection. Interesting part of history.

I don't own this exact piece but I have a couple like it.

It's a large silver coin picturing Queen Wilhelmina that was turned into a brooch. (Most similar pieces are cut out like this one, and some have the text around the circumference polished off. Some also have a loop at the top so it could be worn as a pendent.)

During the German occupation of the Netherlands in WWII many people found ways to discretely show their patriotism and anti-Nazi sentiments by wearing jewelry picturing the queen.

I dread to think how many of these are being lost in the big silver melt of 2025/2026. :(

Fantastic! Their social media is awesome, and their antique press collection is quite impressive!
