The Bo Nix injury highlights why backup QB may be the most important and underrated position in the entire NFL.
I continue to be perplexed why, at this site in particular, the Buffalo Bills garner so much sympathy for their continued failures.

Well, damn. Can’t turn the ball over 5 times and win. Not sure what a catch is any more unless it’s against Buffalo. Same senario last year against KC and it was ruled a catch. Two hands on it. Knee down. Game over. Oh well. Sad to see Nix out so today’s AFC game is a trip to the Super Bowl. Good luck @perkdog

Great QB's are tough to find as it is, then signing them.
Back ups are back. ups for a reason, SF probably has the best back up. in Mac Jones, maybe Buffalo. with Trubisky is next
Other than that how many back ups can you name lol ( Except Dillon Gabriel )
I don't hate Buffalo, I don't even hate the Jets or Miami really,, they are all. irrelevant and simply can't win so. there is no animosity by me towards any of them
Buffalo went to 4 straight super bowls and couldn't cash in, I say the fans deserve one and to sit back and watch the Buffalo. organization waste their best chances under Allen because their management is incompetent does garner some sympathy

Tough loss Joe,, that interception at the end of the game I would have said the receiver was down honestly, that was one of the most controversial calls in the playoffs without question
Insanely tough, sorry my friend and thanks for the good luck
there should be no controversy, per the current rules. the Cooks' play was no different from any others -- he has to survive the ground. Was the ball in his hands? Yes. Was he down? Yes. but if that ball even remotely comes loose from that point on, he "didn't survive the ground" and it's ruled incomplete. and it did. except in this case, the ball came loose into the hands of the defender, therefore it was ruled an interception. not saying i necessarily agree with the interpretation of what a catch is nowadays, but it fell directly in line with what it is not based on the way the game is officiated in 2026.
i'm sorry, but i still say the blame should be shifted away from the zebras and toward Cooks himself. dude had to know that a catch there was a spot in the AFC Champ game. he knows the rules. the moment that ball was in his possession, the jaws of life shouldn't have been able to extract it. it was no longer a football, it was his newborn and a bad guy was trying to snatch him/her away from him. that's how it needed to be perceived. it was that important. it's 1,000% on Brandin Cooks, imo.
Interesting thing about something like that is the entire game prior to that is forgotten. To be honest, Buffalo didn’t safeguard the ball the entire game and now Cooks is to blame for the loss

agree, but you and i both know that it doesn't work that way. when something happens in the first quarter, like Lil'Jordan Humphrey dropping a pass in the end zone that you and i could catch, very little is said afterward. and that's because there were 3 more quarters to go and no one knew how the game was going to play out. but when you're at the tail end, every single play is magnified because at that moment in time you realize how important the outcome is. if Cooks allows the d-back to wrestle the ball away from him in the first 5 minutes of the game, it's perceived differently than if it happens at the end of regulation and it costs his team a spot in the AFC Championship game.
and one last thing. everyone is talking about how great Denver's defense is. perhaps i was watching a different team's defense yesterday, but the one i saw wearing orange looked like trash. in between all of the turnovers, Buffalo blew up and down the field to the tune of 30 points and 450 yards for the game. imagine if they hadn't been so unselfish with the football? would they have hung a 50 spot on that "great" defense?
play D like that next weekend against New England or Houston with Jarrett Stidham as your QB and see what happens. i certainly wouldn't be praying for 5 turnovers to keep you in the game

This is all factual but still a tough pill to swallow
This surviving the ground thing is tough for me to 100% be on board with, the ball was in his hands when his body hit the ground and I feel that should mean the ball was caught and the player was down.

Denver's D was a non factor, with all of Buffalos turnovers it should have been an easy win for a championship caliber team and that was not the case, had Buffalo not played sloppy football they would be waiting to see if it was Houston or New England for them next week.

i'm with you. to be honest, i hate NFL football in the year 2026 as a whole. i never remember having so many questions as to what's going on in a game back when i was a kid. we've already touched on catches. now let's look at kickoffs. does anyone really know where the ball is going to be spotted? so if the kicker boots it into the end zone it goes where? and if he kicks it short of the 20 it goes where? what happens if it goes out of the end zone and through the uprights? is that like 19 points? can we just go back to kicking the effing ball and if it lands anywhere other than the end zone it's run back? and if it does the returner has an option? nope, have to protect the players and turn it into an unrecognizable product.
hell, half the time the guys in the booth don't know what's going on. anyone remember this sequence? i'm glad Portnoy posted this because i remember it vividly. it was nothing short of mass confusion. Romo -- who by the way has turned into the worst lead color analyst on tv -- had no idea what was going on.
and does anyone remember this? this wasn't a hold, this was a calf roping contest. if the zebras had performed the functions of their job correctly, this game would have ended right here. that Bills' o-lineman literally wrapped his arms around a Broncos' d-lineman's neck and took him to the ground in the end zone. 2 points for Denver, game over. no way in living hades were they going to allow that game to end that way.
the sad thing is that we watch these games not truly knowing what a catch is, but here's the ignorant interpretation that we have to live by
for an HC to say after the game that he doesn't understand why that wasn't ruled a catch, the NFL has officially lost its way and needs to do something about it

It is very disheartening to see a team devastated by injuries in the biggest game of the season, but injuries have always been a part of sports. That’s especially true in a physical game like football.
After this week the Patriots will again benefit since Nix is done. The way the Patriots have played this season they didn’t need that kind of help to get to the SB.
It’s a funny game.
Last week CJ Stroud had fumble-itis. This week he seems color blind, keeps passing the ball to the wrong team.

sad thing is that CJ is a top-notch human being. he really is a salt of the earth pro athlete. so it's difficult to watch this. after the 4th INT i felt genuinely bad for him.
one of those Hou coaches needs to remind him at half that he has a great defense. so do anything -- even eat a sack -- before you decide to close your eyes and toss a wounded duck into the air

at this point, do you treat him like a starting pitcher who just doesnt have the fastball today and go with the backup for the second half?
I’m worried about Stroud’s ESPN QBR rating. Last week with 5 fumbles and a pick it was 62.
Today with 4 picks I’m assuming he’s probably in the 62 range again at halftime.
ESPN likes a balanced turnover attack so Stroud needs to revive his fumbling game to boost that QBR into the 80’s or higher.

he looks lost out there.
i think you have to stick with him and hope. he has turned the ball over 7 times in the past 6 quarters, but i think the backup would guarantee a Pats victory.
and again, on top of him being totally clueless out there, they are decimated at the skill positions. and down at least one, maybe two, right tackles.

It sure was fun for me watching Elway lead Denver for 16 seasons, including 5 trips to the Superbowl and two Lombardi trophies.

I'm. honestly getting infuriated right now
Maye is not ready for this moment, I feared all this sunshine and rainbows feel good stuff was going to get ripped apart
i just performed some quick math for darin
With 5 mins left in the 3rd:
QBR - Maye 118, Stroud 147
To defend Stroud, a couple of the Int’s were tipped and his receivers look to be having a hard time with the slippery ball.
All that said, Stroud looks confused and out of synch.
For the AFC playoffs in general it has to be some sort of record for turnovers.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
not sure what that loud noise was
i think it may have been craig & perk losing their collective minds in euphoria
what a catch
I been destroying Maye this whole game
I stand by saying he has not played well but it looks like they will pull. it off
I just don't like how he hanged the ball. out there while defenders are literally in his face
Not a very good product. NFL wanted parity. They see the results
