For those who don’t have anything for the Trump inaugurals, this is a reasonable filler.
This is a presidential model, not an inaugural medal. Inaugural medals have the endorsement and are sold by the inauguration committee. They are only offered for a short time. The mint issues these pieces for an open ended period.
The Trump inaugural medals are weird. His committee never issued one the first time. An Ohio medal was a substitute. For the second term, a very limited number of pieces were handed out to certain donors as part of a goody bag. The medal is not well done in my opinion, but the prices are sky high.
It’s very disappointing for those of us who collect this series which, according to the book by Joe Levine, dates back to 1889. I think it started with the 1801 Jefferson medal by John Reich, but there are numerous gaps in the middle.
