We seem poised to do 'something' to Venezuela - what will happen to PMs?
PMs have been on a rip for a host of reasons mostly unrelated to military activity. 'Should' we strike VZ, what do you think the PM market reaction would be? We know oil will spike.
Military strike:
1: Immediate (week1) $5-$10 drop in spot (silver) across the board
2: Mid term (month 1) - rebounding spot price as previous pressures have not gone away
3: Long term (2 months+) - spot roars higher unhindered
No Strike (Maduro goes away, promise of fair elections ect)
- spot roars higher unhindered

People act on their beliefs, not "fundamentals". Any of the options in the OP could happen with or without intervention.

Looks like another attempted forced regime change. Perhaps one day we will get back to the business of minding our own business? Perhaps not. THKS!

@derryb said “the attack has jeopardized the sea route used by Peru and Chad, the world’s biggest silver exporters”
Can you clarify?
Peru is on the Pacific.
Chad is in Africa and in any case is not a major silver exporter.
My bad, I meant Chile (corrected). Peru and Chile are the world's third and forth largest silver producing countries in the world. With China cutting off its silver exports, Peru and Chile, along with Mexico become even more important to western silver supply. Both are on the west coast of S. America (Pacific ocean) and their raw silver shipments to the US travel through the Panama Canal northward near Venezuela.

All eyes are on the silver opening at 6 pm EST Sunday. Any guesses to where will be at 7pm? I'll start it with $78.45

China provided 60-70% of globally traded refined silver until it implemented export controls Jan. 1.
Those who deny there is not a silver supply problem need to rethink their position.

The Panama canal is 600 miles from Venezuela. Jamaica is closer to Venezuela. So are the BVI.
What is the concern here?

second biz under oil: gold mining
hmmmm gold isn't #2 but is a major natural resource. there is a lot of illegal mining in venezuela
This plan seems to have been executed very well (so far).
That it was apparently this easy indicates that help from within Venezuela was likely.
This is perhaps an indication that internal support for Maduro in Venezuela was thinner than advertised.
This might result in an initial reaction towards a stronger dollar.
I would guess that metals prices will dip for a little while, or at least on the initial market reaction on Monday.
I am not selling, however (except for the higher-premium collector pieces that I mint).
You talking about the backdoor key?
Ask the US Navy fleet, they are all over the area.
When gold and silver move together, it signals the coming end of fiat money.
Metals will continue to increase as demand is greater than supply. Oil is going to get cheaper, not spike. Venezuelan oil was not going to the West and now it will.
Are you now saying the US Navy is going to blow up boats coming from Peru and Chile that are carrying silver?
Knowledge is the enemy of fear
.
nope. maybe they're in the area to guarantee safe passage of venezuelean oil and raw metals to the US. Hey, we just pi$$ed of China who depended heavily on their oil. Venezuela has more oil reserves than any other country.

Ok...while that seems apparent, Venezuelan oil does not go through the Panama canal on its way to the US. Your original comment was about silver flowing through the Panama Canal from Peru and Chile and US warships, so just to to understand what you were inferring.
