    Nice score!
Assuming the bezel hasn’t damaged it, it could straight grade AU 58 or possibly low ms. Not sure if that date in that grade range commands much of a premium over spot right now, but at a minimum you have over $3k in bullion just for the coin.
I see offers on eBay for low ms graded coins asking over $5k, but they likely don’t sell for that.

    59.86 - 33,43 (weight of 20 lib) = 26.43 grams of 14 kt.
    4317.00/ oz X .585 = 2525 per ounce of 14 kt. melt.
    2525/31.1 = price (melt) per gram 14 kt = 80.5
    80.5 x 26.43 = 2127.00 melt value of chain and bezel

So it looks real? Would it be best to take to a coin shop for review ? Not interested in selling

Even though the reverse image is blurry, it appears to be the real deal, and unless you are selling it, I don't think you need to take it anywhere to confirm that. As @PerryHall said, just don't clean or polish it.

It looks like an 1876-S Double Eagle (reverse is out of focus) and there doesn't appear to be a premium for this issue, but it's still a chunk of 90% gold... with gold still at over $4300/oz... there's quite a lot of PM value there.

Don't forget the bezel and chain look like they're also gold. Probably 14K or 18K.

it's more than 3k in gold bullion value for the 90% gold $20 more like in the 4000 area

the chain looks gold in some unknown to me karat. look on it for karat markings. start with the clasp

and the bezel around the coin is unknown to me what it is made of

however, this is not an item you acid test for curiosity. especially the coin.

If you post the total weight, you could get an accurate value.
That chain and bezel are 14 karat.

  • I would have to take the coin out of the bezel, and am afraid of doing so as not to damage the coin.
No markings on bezel that I can see, but the chain is marked 14k and as bezel matches it I assume it is also 14K

That is a nice piece. Consider keeping it intact as an heirloom, if the funds aren’t needed.

Otherwise you can sell it to a jeweler, and let them remove the coin after purchasing it.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

...and if you try to sell it, you'll get somewhat less than that.

  • Thought I was flagging a post as answered question about the prize of chain and bezel.
now the post is missing, did I hit a wrong button that caused post to go away ?
