Completed: Dansco Braided Hair Large Cent album - Thanking Lord M for the inspiration!

I just completed my Braided Hair Large Cent Dansco and I would like to thank @lordmarcovan for the inspiration to start this series. About 5 years ago I had just finished my IHC and Peace dollar sets and was searching for something new to collect and wasn't sure which way to go. I entered in one of LordM's giveaways and won! For my prize I chose an 1848 Braided Hair Large Cent. This would be my first Large cent and I loved the look of this particular coin when I got it in hand and decided at that moment that BHLC's was where I was going next. In doing some research on this series I was amazed at all the varieties in this meager 19 year run, a total of 33 coins to complete the collection with all the whacky overdates and small/large dates. I was even pleasantly surprised to find that in the Dansco Large cent album, that spans the entire large cent production, the BH starts fresh at the top of a new page so I could have a Danco exclusively for them by eliminating the other pages and not have any empty slots for the last couple of years of the Coronet Head on the same page. Although, I am a little salty that the slots aren't a tight fit for the coins and they just rotate around randomly. Regardless, I like this set a lot and it was fun to put together. I know it's not a super high grade set but I tried to stay in the VF-XF range with original surfaces and a full Liberty.

Thanks again Lord M!

Up next: Dansco 7070 Type set, wish me luck!

Very nice! I would be proud to own that set.

Oh my god, don’t say proud. You’ll receive negative comments from this crowd.

Awesome. You were obviously selective and took your time with it. That is a wonderful set!

Wow! You collected all of the major varieties! I only collected all of the dates from 1793 to date.

The 7070 will be even MORE fun! I did it 2-1/2 times.

That's a nice looking collection for sure! I enjoy old copper as well.

I was surprised how long it took me to find some of those date/type combos. One that I just recently upgraded was the 1843 Mature Large Letters, of which yours is a very nice example.

Wow, very nice selections. Great accomplishment. Love the colors.
Great luck with your 7070. I lack 2 coins to complete my 3rd 7070. Both the LSD'S. Look forward to watching your progress. Keep us updated

@MASSU2 - this thread literally made my day. But has it really been five years since you won that “starter” large cent in my giveaway?

You work fast, I’ll say that.

Can’t wait to see your 7070 progress. The slab crackouts are cool here. I expect you’ll do the same with the 7070, eh?

Great Dansco and backstory. I can see what you mean about the fitment, you can see through the gaps.

    Many happy BST transactions

One more question- is the 1848 cent currently seen in the album the same one you got from me, five years back?

As I'm going back through this set, I'm more appreciative of how difficult some of these varieties are. I also had a tough time finding a decent 1843 Mature Head LL... I opted for the Wayte Raymond album instead of the Dansco album because I got to avoid some of the harder varieties yet still "complete" the album.

...nicely done! Oh... and good luck on the 7070! That's quite the endeavor!!

Very nice set, thanks for posting.
It's plain to see that you were patient and selective in building that set.
Some of those varieties are much tougher to find than the casual observer would understand.

Ironically, working on the 7070 type set back in the 1980's is what got me interested in collecting large cents; specifically the Middle Dates at the time, and since then the whole darn date run, along with major varieties.

I just came back to admire again. Those coins are indeed very nicely matched, with nice brown surfaces.
