PCGS Online Submission - Can Return Insurance Level Be Zero, Since I have Private Insurance?
On Tuesday, I’m sending in a submission for Reconsideration. I used the online submission tool, and was very impressed each step of the way. I easily entered each coin, and the tool easily allowed the options I wanted for each coin. I also easily entered to return it via FedEx Priority Overnight, charging that shipping to my FedEx account. However, in finalizing the submission process, it asked me to enter the amount of insurance for the return shipping, and insisted I enter a value no less than the total value I entered for my coins. Since I have private insurance, I need to enter zero, but the tool would not allow that.
Up until now, all of my hand filled subs indicated to PCGS there is no need for insurance, as I have private insurance. Can I accomplish that with the online submission tool, or must I continue using hand filled subs?
Thanks.
Steve

Probably a phone call will be required. Maybe a internal liability issue, just a thought.

Thanks, but I’d like to finish the sub forms, one way or the other, in the early morning. That’s why I’m hoping someone here that knows the answer will see this.

Steve, My understanding is you can not use your insurance for the return trip (except in a secondary mode if a loss were to happen). I believe that is because the shipper (PCGS) has determined that their liability does not end until you have the coins back in hand. That's not 100% for sure, because I haven't had PCGS tell me that, but that's what I understand from the conditions.
EDIT: Didn't think about the fact you were using shipping billed to your account. Not sure how that works. Disregard above.

Thanks, but I’ve never had a problem on my manual submissions (ever), when I indicate each time on the sub forms on the insurance line “None Needed- Private Insurance”. My last sub was just this past August.

does the submission cost change as you modify the insurance amounts?
While I did not experiment late yesterday with this, in my situation of having FedEx as the return carrier being charged to my FedEx account, I would think there is NO change at all by PCGS, but FedEx would absolutely charge varying extra amounts based on how much insurance FedEx was providing.
