One suggestion is a set of Ferdinand VII 8 reales imaginary bust issues from Mexico, Chile, and Peru, plus the Charles IV busts from Guatemala and Colombia with Ferdinand VII legends, and backdated Bolivian 8 reales. Lots of cool transitional pieces from 1808 to 1812.
First ancient coin purchase. 5 strike with 3 surfaces, but unfortunately brushed. Have long wanted to add one of these to the collection and I think this is a nice example. It’s the strong strike I think that got me.
Love the various LA Spanish colonial coins I’ve been lucky enough to purchase over the past few months. INow all I need is an actual direction or concentration if you will …..beyond just coins I find very appealing, which is a lot of fun in and of itself….but I’m a set collector at heart

Arrived yesterday, a hefty penny sized token/medalette from 1797 catalogued by Dalton & Hamer as Warwickshire 38a depicting St. Michael's church (later Coventry Cathedral). Included was the original paper wrapper it came in.

I would say “small” mintage of just 6001, but that’s around 6000 times more abundant than some other stuff that’s popped up in this forum recently. I don’t normally collect proof coins at all but there’s some pretty cool issues that have come from the land of my ancestors (one of them anyways).

This is a pretty tough (and expensive) one to find in the US because this date is part of the "World Coins Circulating in Early America Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1575-1826)." To bypass this, I asked the Colin Cooke coin company to source me one, and they did!

Did you guys know a Nepalese Dam was in fact a small form of silver currency from the late 18th century? Because when I woke up this morning I was pretty sure they were in rivers providing power to the good people of the area. Anyways I thought this was a dam fine coin (I’m sorry…..I had to)
I started letting my daughter scroll through Great Collections lots about a month ago.
I’m not a fan of a ton of screen time for my kids, but it’s a great exercise for YNs who are interested in looking at lots of coins imho.
Also I’ve trained a dog to get me the paper every morning……I feel like I should be able to train one of my kids to filter out the coins I’m not interested in from auction sites
Credit goes to my 9 year old for suggesting this one.
I think this is the first Israeli coin I’ve owned before, aside from maybe having a few be a part of larger lots/collections years ago. I could probably stay a very happy collector just buying coins under $100 from around the world in this grade with this look.
Looks like a cob (?) but the pillars and crown also look perfectly cut/struck to its shape.
Would love to know a little more about it if you’re so inclined. What country? Denomination? Guessing Real or maybe 1/4 real but still in the embryonic stage of Spanish colonial coin knowledge.

Yeah, Guatemala’s a mess, they were supposed to strike milled coinage like all the other colonies but they couldn’t/wouldn’t, it was a lot more work and technology that they weren’t prepared for, so they minted them like cobs but still with the pillar dies. I love early Guatemala colonial coins, such a mess! 😂

Surprisingly difficult coin to locate. Minted by the Philadelphia mint in 1899 and 1900 with 100,000 each year.

It’s probably a very thick flan, that’s why much of the design is missing, it’s thick rather than broad. Still identifiable though, so that’s good.
