Is that a carbon speck on the reverse rim (1:00)?
If so, the grade might be altered a bit downward, otherwise it shows MS66 characteristics.

Those rims look sharp and squared off. Is it a proof?

My first thought was 67 and hammered.

Noticed the discoloration and wondered if it hurts grade

    Nice coin

This one is a Matte Proof-66 graded by NGC. Once you get beyond PR-63 or 64, you can't grade these coins from photos.

Here is an Unc., but it is only an MS-63. I didn't sell it when I bought the Proof for my type set because I couldn't get much for it. It's interesting to have an Unc. and a Proof.

If it is a proof, looks like you picked it off an ebay seller not listing it as such. If so, nice score!

Thanks much to all who participated in this thread. Got the coin on Friday and compared it to Bill Jones picture of his ngc proof-66 type 1 buffalo nickel and the coin i got looks identical to his, same sharp rims with no beveling, same sharp details all over. So it will go to be slabinated tomorrow. When i get it back i will post the results. On fleabay as i like to call it you just never know what lies right around the corner. Just keep looking and you may go from a browser to a buyer in a second
if the right coin comes along.

If that's not a Proof half of the slabbed ones aren't either IMO. This is a strong Proof for the date, T1 Proofs usually have significant weakness on the left obverse rims.

I see you went hunting for treasure. In my opinion they follow the GSC sales model so it would be nice if you hit on a proof the seller missed.

I don’t trust their photos so I would rather see photos from you or Al or someone trusted. If you are sending to PCGS presumably you will get a TrueView so it will be interesting to see what it grades.

What, in particular, leads you to that conclusion? It sure looks like one (based on the less-than-ideal images provided).

We have no way of assessing the ‘fabric’ of the coin off the image and I’ve seen so many well struck 1913’s that strike alone won’t cause me to think ‘proof’. So without confirmation of proof fabric, I’ll take the under and let it ride.

Thanks, and admittedly, we don’t how closely the images resemble the coin.
