My wife was once a NFL cheerleader. Humble brag. So I’ve adopted her take on this one because I like her perspective. “Anyone who cares might need someone to talk to about some stuff that’s been bothering them.” She added some stuff about grace and empathy which I loosely interpreted into “weak sauce”. Get over it Steve.

I suppose, he’s looked really good since he first came to the NFL. The big hitch is that he plays in Pittsburgh and there is a history there of players who succeed, suffer severe cranial expansion and then meltdowns. The most recent was Chase Claypool. Prior to that was Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.

Can we say that George Pickens is a top. tier WR?
Probably, but I think JSN is going to show us what top tier is. That kid is having a magical season and 2K might be in focus. His moves are pretty subtle but he's got that sneaky 6th gear at the top. Ridiculous hands and great body control with contact... he went from borderline WR1 to outta this world.

My buddy mentioned him last night when I was talking about Pickens, I forget about JSN all the time and it's criminal since the kid is straight up beast mode

Brown is a sad story, it's obvious he has never been the same since Burfict hit him

i play fantasy and i still didn't realize what a monster season Smith-Njigba is having until just now. if i actually watched the Seahawks play and he was on my team, i'd know lol
Pickens is 2nd in yards in the NFL and JSN has almost 300 more than he does

Knowing that is not around any longer, has to be a morale booster...for the club, the players, and the fans. Plus it's nice to know a woman took its place.
JSN set records at Ohio State where he suddenly came out of nowhere to lead their WR’s. He’s a product of Brian Hartline who serves as the Buckeyes OC and Receivers coach.
It seems he’ll eventually be a HC for some college team or make the move to the NFL.

I didn't watch the game but judging from the highlights McCarthy looked really bad. The 2nd half for the Vikings --- 4 total yards on 15 plays with 2 Int's and 5 sacks. He threw a couple nice passes, especially one to Jefferson, but doesn't seem to have much pocket awareness and he holds on to the ball to long. I checked his Michigan stats and in 40 games there he averaged 18 passes/game. His specialty was handing the ball to an RB and he seems to have mastered that skill.
It's nice to see someone else notices McCarthy throws the occasional nice pass.
YES, McCarthy had a bad game.
Coach (idiot) O'Connell passed up a field goal in the first half and had the TIGHT END line up under center and run the ball on 3rd an short. Didn't work.
Went for it on 4th with a simple running play that got stuffed.
Maybe he forgot we were playing a road game and we would be kicking off to start the second half.
Speaking of the second half, O'Connell completely abandoned the run and Mica Parsons practically destroyed our offensive blockers. Two offensive lineman hurt for the Vikes. Maybe they just got tired of watching Parsons blow by them.
As far as McCarthy is concerned his first interception was deflected at the line, the second was a BAD THROW.
Way too much is being expected of McCarthy way too fast.
Management decided to let 2 veteran QB's walk and it's not looking good for this year.
Instead of being a bunch of wimps, fans should look at this year as a learning and developing experience for a young quarterback to hopefully get better as the season goes along and start next year with him being a better equipped QB.
Maybe even get a high draft choice if we end up in last place in the division.
Compensatory picks for both Jones and Darnold should help as well.
It looks like it's going to be a tough year for Vikings fans.
I'm not giving up on McCarthy!

All those guys you listed did have a rough go of it so yes McCarthy isn't the first rookie to struggle
I haven't seen many Vikings highlights since I dumped Red Zone
Regarding my Jefferson comment, so far he hasn't been your typical elite WR with an attitude so he might continue to be a team player and as long as he continues to get paid like one I'm sure that will help
As long as the Vikings don't pull the numbers game with him come contract time and mention his numbers compared to other big name guys it might be fine.
He is a 100 catch 1500 yard guy with a solid QB, this season McCarthy obviously isn't that guy but sure that could change, we will see

I have said all along that the Vikings probably weren't going to go with Darnold if he was going to get long term contract offers.
When Daniel Jones signed here, I thought that was going to be our QB for this year. That's what I would have preferred.
As far as "keeping the faith" goes, he has occasionally shown some great talent. As I pointed out several Hall of Fame/Super Bowl winning QB's had horrible years to begin their careers. It's not unheard of for a QB to get better.
I am NOT predicting he's going to lead us to the promised land. He might be hurt AGAIN, that would be upsetting.
O'Connell is an idiot for not adjusting the offense away from all the downfield passes, I haven't seen a quick slant pass since he became head coach.
The offensive line was supposed to be better this year. Sunday's game was the first time the starters all played together, and 2 (left tackle and guard) got hurt. 5 sacks and lots of pressure on McCarthy. Yes, he does hold on to the ball for a long time, but part of that is slow developing pass routes.

Jefferson just signed a 4 year $140 million contract. If he starts causing problems, he can f#&k off!
Lastly, one thing I do know. The Vikings have no clue in how to "develop" a young quarterback, but neither do a lot of teams. Just look at how well Darnold and Jones are doing this year (and last year for Darnold) when they get some experience.

They never show the back to see the serial number (or lack of one.)
The most recent sales on his PMG red is 28k & 19k for PSA 7’s in the past year and a half, then a BGS Altered sold for just over 1k.
Numbered or not it’s still a pretty cool one of a kind Sanders.
@JoeBanzai, I get your point about other QB’s having a rough rookie year, I just hope you’re under no illusions that McCarthy might be comparable to any on that list. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in believing he could have an NFL career, but in the scheme of things his potential for sucks he is greater than anything else he might achieve.

Only a gutless pig would fake an injury. Especially one making $35 million a year.
Not really. Its just making a business decision like when guys give up on a meaningless tackle in a game they lost. The team will cut you in a second if you get hurt and doesnt view a player as anything but a replaceable asset.
The Vikings season is over and they have a QB thats just throwing terrible passes when he actually does throw.

I think I have made it perfectly clear that I don't "know" if he's going to be even a starter in the NFL, much less the Vikings starting quarterback for the next decade. I hope he does. I have also made it clear that I would have resigned Darnold, but it was obvious the Vikings weren't going to. Next, I would have signed Jones to a "prove it" 1 or 2 year contract. He signed a 1 year deal elsewhere. The rumor is the Vikings did next to nothing to sign him. Apparently offered him a contract and said "take it or leave it". 👋
The comparisons to Christian Ponder are laughable. Ponder was a game manager at best. Ponder also got screwed by a defense that didn't stop anyone at the end of a game we were winning. Look it up.
What baffles me, given the flashes of ability he has (occasionally) shown, is why a very young, very inexperienced QB is not getting the benefit of the doubt.
You haven't been watching the games, have you?
No, he doesn't look ready, but his offensive line hasn't blocked well for him, his receivers have uncharacteristically dropped some pretty good passes (and some poor ones they still could have caught) and his coach is calling plays with little or no regard to building JJ's confidence.
KOC IS AN IDIOT. He's a really nice guy. Blah, blah, blah. I'd MUCH rather have Mike Zimmer.
The last game (I hate the Packers) was a perfect example of KOC's stupidity. He goes for it on 4th down, calls a simple run that's stopped. Instead of the game being 10-9 at half, it's 10-6.
The left side of the O line goes down and Mica Parsons is running wild. Does O'Connell call for some roll outs to the right to compensate? No. He also completely gives up on running the ball and McCarthy is running for his life.
I do like our back up QB, so if McCarthy can't figure things out, hopefully we have a guy who can produce. I'm not ready for that.

Its not all guaranteed. Most of it is but the NFL could avoid a lot of issues if they would fully guarantee contracts like MLB does.

I like it guaranteed for obvious reasons. I know the Panda one was bad for the Red Sox. The other side of it you have with the NFL you have guys holding out unless they get a new contract, pulling up on a tackle type stuff making business decisions since if they get cut lose a huge chunk of their contract if not most or all of it for guys that arent superstars

Regarding my Jefferson comment, so far he hasn't been your typical elite WR with an attitude so he might continue to be a team player and as long as he continues to get paid like one I'm sure that will help
You might be right about Jefferson being upset. I'm seeing Jefferson getting a lot of "targets" when he's well covered. None of our other receivers caught a pass Sunday.
I am sick to death of selfish players. I hope Jefferson doesn't turn out that way.

As long as the Vikings don't pull the numbers game with him come contract time and mention his numbers compared to other big name guys it might be fine.
He is a 100 catch 1500 yard guy with a solid QB, this season McCarthy obviously isn't that guy but sure that could change, we will see

GO VIKINGS. GO J J MCCARTHY!
I forgot he signed that deal
That might help him from being disgruntled lol
Its not all guaranteed. Most of it is but the NFL could avoid a lot of issues if they would fully guarantee contracts like MLB does.
Either way if hes just getting 50 yards a game like he has been with McCarthy hes going to want to be traded at some point. His 2 best games of the year by far which are about a third of his receiving yards were with Wentz at QB
I've been waiting to see what else trickles out here about Aiyuk. There has to be more to that story.
All those guys you listed did have a rough go of it so yes McCarthy isn't the first rookie to struggle
I haven't seen many Vikings highlights since I dumped Red Zone

I'm going out on a limb and predicting that not a single person will give it a seconds thought much less care if they even know about it 😂😂😂
My wife was once a NFL cheerleader. Humble brag. So I’ve adopted her take on this one because I like her perspective. “Anyone who cares might need someone to talk to about some stuff that’s been bothering them.” She added some stuff about grace and empathy which I loosely interpreted into “weak sauce”. Get over it Steve.
Looks like Myles Garrett has a really good chance to break the NFL sack record, 5 needed.

Pictures or I don't believe you
( Joking )
Just crushing that HOF resume
Can we say that George Pickens is a top. tier WR?
I suppose, he’s looked really good since he first came to the NFL. The big hitch is that he plays in Pittsburgh and there is a history there of players who succeed, suffer severe cranial expansion and then meltdowns. The most recent was Chase Claypool. Prior to that was Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.

So you’re saying it’s possible to wonder if that will affect the teams performance without self consciously realizing what a bizarre thought that is?
How would that affect the teams performance?
Claypool looked like he was very capable but it just never worked out that way.
Brown is a sad story, it's obvious he has never been the same since Burfict hit him
Bell was a complete idiot who destroyed his own career
he plays for the Cowboys
I missed that part of his post lol
i play fantasy and i still didn't realize what a monster season Smith-Njigba is having until just now. if i actually watched the Seahawks play and he was on my team, i'd know lol
Pickens is 2nd in yards in the NFL and JSN has almost 300 more than he does
Knowing that is not around any longer, has to be a morale booster...for the club, the players, and the fans. Plus it's nice to know a woman took its place.
That's my final word on it.
@perkdog said: I missed that part of his post lol
I missed the trade or whatever, last I knew he was a Steeler. I used to get confused about who was who when they had Picket and Pickens.

JSN set records at Ohio State where he suddenly came out of nowhere to lead their WR’s. He’s a product of Brian Hartline who serves as the Buckeyes OC and Receivers coach.
It seems he’ll eventually be a HC for some college team or make the move to the NFL.

Gotcha
In what world is a 98 out of 100 5 star recruit who not only was the 2nd highest rated WR overall but also the 2nd best rated player overall in Texas coming out of nowhere?

Well it looks like commenting about it got you put behind bars. And no I didn’t notify board moderator or anyone.
I could use the vacation anyway. I'll be back if the ban is lifted.
Don't forget to put in your CU picks
You'll be fine, it's happened to a few other guys here, 💩 happens bud
Move on and don't sweat it
I hope not.
I'm curious how other rookie QB's did in their first year as a starter.
I remember Marino was great right away.
Going back, I see HOFer Terry Bradshaw completed 38% of his passes his first year with 6 TD's and TWENTYFOUR INT's.
Eli Manning 48% completions, 6 TD's and 9 INT.
John Elway 48%, 7 TD's, 14 INT.
Drew Brees in his SECOND year as a starter, 2-9 record, 11TD's and 15 INT.
Troy Aikman 0-11 record, 53% completions. 9 TD's, 18 INT.
I guess J J is in good company.
Why doesn't that surprise me?
Why would it?
Jefferson has been a stud with 5 different QBs before McCarthy and now a top 3 WR looks average. McCarthy is the worst QB in the NFL statistically

And he keeps getting worse which is why IMG and Michigan never put the game in his hands

Was scrolling through IG last night and came across arguably Barry Sanders most valuable card with a pretty cool inscription.

@erikthredd
if he had signed that card in black it would've killed it
blue and blue only was the choice
I love everything about that card. The green is a chart-buster but the red looks much better.
Here’s the link for that Barry.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
He can get canteen but I don't believe they have any organic options 😂😂😂
Not really. Its just making a business decision like when guys give up on a meaningless tackle in a game they lost. The team will cut you in a second if you get hurt and doesnt view a player as anything but a replaceable asset.
The Vikings season is over and they have a QB thats just throwing terrible passes when he actually does throw.
Its a business

Your opinion sickens me to the very core of my existence.
edited to add; I decided to "ignore" you and I see that your profile is "private" no surprises there either.
I forgot he signed that deal
That might help him from being disgruntled lol
i hate to interrupt this JJ McCarthy lovefest, but i just found out that the shawwow/slap chop/schticky guy is running for congress here in Texas
it's one of those nuggets of info you should probably just keep to yourself, but it's the sign of the apocalyse so vitally important that i just had to puke it out

Its not all guaranteed. Most of it is but the NFL could avoid a lot of issues if they would fully guarantee contracts like MLB does.

Honestly I think MLB should copy the NFL, fully guaranteed contracts are horrible for the team, a player can turn into a fat lazy slob but his contract is going to be paid out regardless.
Hop sing?

I like it guaranteed for obvious reasons. I know the Panda one was bad for the Red Sox. The other side of it you have with the NFL you have guys holding out unless they get a new contract, pulling up on a tackle type stuff making business decisions since if they get cut lose a huge chunk of their contract if not most or all of it for guys that arent superstars
