While competition heats up in the final weeks of the college football season, a handful of SEC teams are getting their annual gift: a late-season cupcake before rivalry week and the postseason.
Undefeated and No. 3 Texas A&M hosts Samford (1-10), No. 4 Georgia welcomes Charlotte (1-9), No. 10 Alabama welcomes Eastern Illinois (3-8) and LSU hosts Western Kentucky(8-2).
Whether these games promise a stress-free Saturday is up for debate, but they were scheduled with the intention of giving projected contenders a breather before the home stretch. This is a longtime scheduling feature in the SEC, helped somewhat by a schedule that requires only eight conference games.
That comes to an end next season. In August, the SEC announced a switch to nine conference games in 2026, which has left coaches fearing a lot more is at stake than the loss of an easy late-season win.
“I’ve already been on the record saying it makes no sense to go to nine games in the SEC,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. “Everybody outside of our league, of course they want us to. They want us to devour each other like we’re doing. Makes no sense.”
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
Everyone plays cupcake games. Holding back one of them before the rivalry game just means you have played harder games already and didnt use September as a warm up for a month
Ready for some football??!!?? Less than 4 hours till kick-off on another crisp Saturday. I still haven't heard anything about the status of Smith and Tate, but it wouldn't surprise me if they sat out today.

Since everyone insists on talking about Strength of Schedule in ranking these teams it seems pertinent that Florida State lost to NC State last night 21-11. That opening loss to the Seminoles by Alabama just looks worse and worse as the season goes on.

Small minds think in small ways as if "everyone" pertains only to a message board. Strength of Schedule and Strength of Record is mentioned by the media as being an important factor in discussions among the CFP committee members.
@coolstanly, with Smith and Tate not playing it seems the Buckeyes will probably rely on defense and the running game today. It wouldn't surprise me to see the two WR's held out against Michigan next week to ensure they're fully healed for the playoffs.

You can assert, as people in your position on the curve often do, that I have a small mind but your statement was ridiculous and not true. Evidence exists in this antagonistic follow up where you’ve shifted it to include SOR. I’ll say that everyone doesn’t use SOR or SOS or SOR and SOS to rank teams. You just don’t like when other people disagree with you. That’s an ego problem. Get over it.

I love how somehow the fact Texas would have beat OSU if Archie didnt suck and Sayin was bad doesnt matter because it was week `1. Somehow though it doesnt matter it was also week 1 for Bama and Simpsons first start but it matters while ignoring Bamas 4 ranked wins including beating GA
I dont really get the shots at Bama other than being scared of them I guess. OSU has already locked up a playoff spot even when they likely lose to Michigan.
@perkdog, a fumble into the endzone and a PI on an Int haven't helped and sort of distort what's really happening. Except for a few plays, Rutgers really hasn't moved the ball. It just goes to show how important the two WR's are to the Ohio State offense.

Totally agree that OSU is controlling the game with their D, I been watching off and on
OSU Rutgers was over the second it was scheduled. Rutgers is not a good team and might as well be an out of conference cupcake
Bama is playing Eastern Illinois and Georgia is playing Charlotte
those aren't cupcakes, those are 15-year-old pieces of candy
Of course they are. Rutgers isnt much better and as mentioned multiple times if you want a late season cupcake game then dont play them all at the start of the season and save one. Those schools get paid 6 or 7 figures to lose and will schedule whenever you tell them too

You think Ohio State is the same team now as the Ohio State team that played Texas? To be fair, If Bama played Florida state right now Bama wins by 3-4 td's.

I certainly don't think OSU is the same OSU as game 1.
That's because I just made it up, I guess I figured the members here could use their intelligence and maybe think about it a little. Consider that in an average game a team's offense will have 11-13 possessions to break the 70 point threshold. I think it happened three time so far this season back in weeks 2-3, Indiana and Alabama both scored 73 and I think Tennessee scored 72. There have been a lot of games in the 60's and several at exactly 70, but only those broke the mark.
It's pretty hard to do, it means a team has to score a TD and conversion on virtually every offensive possession or get help from the defense and/or special teams. Yesterday was magical for Notre Dame, they were ahead 21-0 before the offense even took a snap!!! Then without losing the ball via Int or a Fumble the offense scored 7 TD's and had just 2 punts to reach 70.

So using the math you guys taught me that means Florida is only 15 points worse than OSU.
But there's more stupidity.
OSU is 34 points better than WI, which means Florida is 19 points better than Wisconsin.
Wisconsin is 3 points better than Washington which means Florida is 22 points better than Washington.
