A gentlemen brought me this dollar questioning the copper color marks on the surface. My assumption is that it is post mint damage but up close it doesn't appear to be raised on the surface. I'm not saying that it isn't and I'm not saying it is below the surface either.
Just figured I would come out here and get some opinions from some of the masters.

Harshly cleaned, likely remnants of whatever someone was trying to remove with the cleaning.

As l noted in attached link I am not an error type but that could be in the planchet (slag or similar) but I can not tell.

I am not an error expert but that looks like a simple stain to me. Note a lesser splash down and on the figure of Liberty. Planchet problems I have seen tend to look more like something bubbling to the surface, or as streaks such as on Indian cents. just my opinion. James
My first thought was some type of delamination. Not sure though.

That is what the person that brought it to me thought it might be but my experience with planchet issues/defects is honestly little to none. He also brought in some Lincolns with lamination defects but those were easy to tell. This one, not so much for me.
Looks like something that could potentially be in the planchet. Unfortunate that someone tried to scrub it off.
