if it didn't work for one then how will it work for another?
Good news
Hope it is a success for Stacks.

Serious?

Different objectives. The PE overlords at CU obviously decided they didn't need it to support their primary business.
A numismatic auction house is very likely seeing a benefit that will support its primary business by having what Whitman does in Baltimore in Long Beach.
The one thing you know for sure is that they know what they are doing, and they have serious money behind them. So I'd expect them to do what is necessary to make it a success for the community. Even if it doesn't directly generate a profit for them.
Will the dealers be there Saturday's and Sunday's?😆
Sunday is rarity night
Here is a link to the post I did for what I heard at the recent Baltimore show,

Maybe they want to stop being the official auctioneer of the Whitman Baltimore Expo (and perhaps any fees associated with that) and start to be the official auctioneer of their own show?
I would assume they would like to be both. There is no advantage to severing a relationship with a successful show to dump that money into trying to resurrect a failed show.
Given the way numismatic auctions are run these days, I'm also not sure it matters who the "official" auctioneer is. They don't even always run the auction at the show.
All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.
Doubt it. It's likely an east Coast/West Coast thing, they see value in having a healthy market, including shows, on the West Coast, and they are just stepping in to fill a void.
Starting their own show in California will do nothing for them if Heritage or GC steps in to take their spot in Baltimore due to fees. Most of these shows, and their sponsors, happily coexist with each other.
The title does NOT match what you said. Has SB released any statement for Feb 2026? or later.Dont see how SB without any experience can pull off a profitable event since PCGS tried
It's official!
Press release:
https://stacksbowers.com/.../stacks-bowers-galleries.../
Stack’s Bowers Galleries is pleased to announce that it has acquired from Collectors Universe, Inc. the popular Long Beach Expo, The Collectibles Show, one of the longest-running and most respected numismatic events in the United States. Celebrated by collectors and dealers alike, this iconic West Coast venue has served the numismatic community for more than 60 years, offering a premier gathering place for buying, selling, education, and camaraderie.
“Our mission is to ensure that this historic venue remains a vibrant hub for collectors and dealers,” said Brian Kendrella, President of Stack’s Bowers Galleries. “We are proud to support a show that has played such an important role in numismatics, and we look forward to strengthening its future, beginning with our first Expo in February 2026.”
The first event under the new ownership will be a smaller and more intimate “invitational” edition of the show at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, Hall C. The show will be open to attendees February 18-20, 2026, with dealer setup on Tuesday, February 17.
Stack’s Bowers Galleries, a proud Platinum Sponsor of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG), is pleased to offer members of the PNG special benefits as the show is reintroduced, including discounted table fees, priority table selection, and additional perks. PCGS will serve as a major supporter and the official grading service of the event, and PCGS Collectors Club members will enjoy free admission.
“PCGS is thrilled to support the return of the Long Beach Expo to Southern California,” said PCGS President Stephanie Sabin. “The show has been a West Coast tradition for more than 60 years, and PCGS has had a presence at the show since our beginning in 1986. As the Long Beach Expo enters a new era, we are excited to continue serving a role in what is one of the most important events on the numismatic calendar.”
Kerry Pieropan, a veteran of the rare coin industry, owner of Riverside Coin and Bullion, and director of Pacific Expos which operates the Buena Park and Anaheim coin shows, is serving as a special consultant to the Long Beach Coin Expo.
Dealers and collectors interested in reserving a table are invited to contact the show management team, led by David Talk, by emailing info@LongBeachExpo.com or calling 562-250-3300.

Is it too close to FUN (or any other shows) ?
No, because it is in California and FUN is in Florida. And because FUN is a mega national show while Long Beach is a regional show.
Different markets. Different audiences.
The relevant question isn't time proximity to a much larger show 2500 miles away. The question is whether SB can make it work when CU couldn't, and whether SB will just eat whatever it costs, assuming it can't at least break even, as a service to the community?
If there is interesting lot viewing I will probably go.
and if they are close to each other dealers will choose only one, with fun most likely it
Not close in time to Fun but very close to Whitman Baltimore Expo in March
The other issue is that Feb tends to have snow in many parts of USA so that will probably be an issue for some folks who fly.
If the goal is regional show then should be ok for SB. but will probably hurt Baltimore in March dealer turnout
I can't say if it is to close for any individual or not (example: some, not local, may not come due to doing ANA) but as I posted above the ANA National Money Show which is across the country in Savannah GA is the following week - Feb 26 -28.
