This is my favorite story about an early half dollar, featuring a coin I used to own.
Here's my "one that got away". I used to have this piece on my once-legendary "Holey Coin Vest". I'd gotten it in trade for about $45 worth of Irish coins. Back around '05, I sold it to @Cladiator for $75. He later put it on eBay and we were both astonished when the thing sold for a sum in the low four figures.
Turns out this was a previously unknown die marriage. At least two specialists had noticed that and got into a bidding war. So this subsequently became the 1806 Overton-129 discovery coin. One other O-129 was later discovered, so as of the last information I have, this piece is one of only two known (R8). I reckon that makes the hole in it irrelevant, huh.
And yeah... I sold it for 75 bucks. LOL. But I'm not crushed by that fact. You win some, you lose some, right?
Hey, at least I made a "reasonable" profit when I sold it to @cladiator. Just not quite as tidy a profit as he made!

@lordmarcovan What a story!! That's painful yet exciting. High value Ebay cherrypick stories never cease to entertain. I remember David Perkins telling me his experience on the buying end of an unattributed 1829 O-120 R-8 on Ebay, without competition!

That's has some of the nicest toning I have ever seen.
That's not saying a whole lot becasue I am not a bust half collector but I still like them.
Do they come any better as far as toning?

1808 O-106a - I wish it was a later die state but it’s still cool. The crack from edge to cap goes all the way to the ear.

Nothing too scarce, but the die cracks and the eye appeal I dig.

Wow, some of those target-toners in the OP are crrrazy!
My humble contributions. Not trophy coins by any stretch of the imagination, but wholesome enough, I reckon.
This 1806 is CAC but has no sticker. I discovered that fun fact by accident when I registered it.
Got this one off the BST from @drddm, if I remember correctly.
