Rediscovering King Tut's Tomb in Egypt's Valley of The Kings Using the Just Released iPhone 17 Pro Max
In 1922 Howard Carver was the first human being since 1323 BC to discover and view King Tut's Tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. Lighted by oil burning torches his view of the magnificently preserved color images on the walls of the tomb was limited.
Fast forward 103 years to 2025 with Apple's release of the iPhone 17 Pro Max and using its advanced low light gathering technology you can view those same images in a way the world then could not view them from the black and white photographs taken by his team.
The images of King Tut's Tomb as captured in the below linked YouTube Video Playlist by the just released iPhone 17 Pro Max with its advanced low light gathering capability are among the best possible even today.
The three videos in this Playlist of King Tut's Tomb are as follows:
Entry into the tomb descending to its depths from the valley floor.
The deep chamber in which the elaborate colored images and slab upon which King Tut's Mummy was found encased in layered coffins by Howard Carter. (Including the gold funeral mask now on display at Cairo's Museum of Antiquities, along with the gold coffins, consist of over 25 pounds of gold.)
Transitioning from the deep chamber with its elaborately decorated walls to the entrance chamber which remains uncompleted given the premature death of King Tut as a teenager.
The entrance chamber to King Tut's Tomb is where his mummy has been relocated. Viewed there are views of the mummy itself. (His is the only mummy of a Pharaoh remaining in the Valley of the Kings as the others now are housed in Cairo's Museum of Ancient Civilization.)
Link to YouTube Video Playlist of the Rediscovery of King Tut's Tomb in The Valley of the Kings:
(The three videos should play in succession. Otherwise click "Play All." )
As an added note, the above referenced slab located in the original burial chamber is in fact the stone cover of the sarcophagus in which the trio of King Tut's nesting coffins were placed.
Until 2019 at least one of those coffins with King Tut's mummy inside were displayed there in the tomb's burial chamber with the sarcophagus's cover replaced by a sheet of glass. Subsequently all three of the nesting coffins were taken to Cairo's Museum of Antiquity with only King Tut's Mummy and the stone sarcophagus remaining in the tomb. His mummy was relocated to an entrance chamber where it presently rests in an enclosed glass case while the heavy stone sarcophagus remains in place in the original burial chamber.
King Tut's funeral mask contains close to 25 pounds of gold and his inner gold coffin contains 240 pounds of gold. The two outer coffins were made of wood.
It is also worth noting that it took almost a year from the 1922 discovery of King Tut's tomb to reach the burial chamber and although early grave robbers close to the time of burial apparently looted through the outer chambers the burial chamber remained hidden. When discovered by Howard Carter the outer chamber had been resealed and there remained over 5,000- priceless artifacts intact. It is believed that the early grave robbers were apprehended by guards before the guards resealed the tomb and had possibly returned the stolen items. What they didn't do though was to neatly stack the looted through items that remained jumbled up when found by Carter.
Based upon some scientific experiments it is believed there are other hidden chambers behind the walls of the burial chamber and the speculation is that they may contain the yet unfound mummy and tomb of King Tut's mother Queen Nefertiti. They remain unexplored since to breach the walls, as pictured below, would destroy the valuable images painted on them.
Re posted Photo of King Tut's Burial Chamber with the top lid of his stone sarcophagus visible:
By way of explanation, the images on the far wall of the burial chamber depict scenes of King Tut in the after life as he is greeted by various gods. The side wall depicts the 12 monkeys representing the 12 hours of night through which King Tut would pass to enter the world of the after life.
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT EGYPT'S PYRAMIDS AND MORE INCLUDING AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE EGYPTIAN POLICE AND AN ALIEN
The intent was to produce a vlog reciting Egyptian jokes with the Pyramids of Giza as a backdrop. All went well until the gimbal balancing and steadying my new iPhone 17 Pro Max decided to collapse on me. Improvising I went ahead with a hand held effort and got through part of my joke infused narrative before having to rejoin my fellow travelers for a group photo.
In the course of it all I somehow lost my sunglasses but that is another story. OK, I’ll make it short. After reporting their loss to our gun-equipped government security official who rode with us on the bus, he radioed back to his on site police comrades and they found them and had them waiting for me when we eventually circled back on our return. At first I didn’t recognize them as mine until pulling up a photo where I had been wearing them. To complete the saga I had to “file” a police report which consisted of their taking a photo of me wearing them accompanied by a photo of my ID - so now I am in the official data base of the Egyptian Police.
Below is a link to a Playlist of YouTube videos I took at the site of the Giza Pyramids. It includes the improvised vlog effort which admittedly could have benefited from a retake. In any event, for the sake of completeness here included are the Egyptian jokes that made it onto the video as well as the additional ones intended.
Here goes:
Q. Why are the pyramids in Egypt?
Because they were too heavy to take to the British Museum in London.
After purchasing the Brooklyn Bridge, I got a great offer to buy the Nile but when I returned home I found out I had been E-Gypted.
If I think I was funny telling that joke, I would have to be in de-nile.
Q. What do you call small rivers in Egypt?
Juve-niles.
There are some strange small shops here in Egypt. I guess you could say they are a little bazaar.
Q. Why are hieroglyphs so valuable?
A. Because a picture is worth a thousand words.
In Egypt you have to look out for scammers. The worst are the ones who promise a great monetary return. Unfortunately it will turn out to be a pyramid scheme.
Then there was the Egyptian comedian who was trying to make a joke about a mummy, but he couldn’t wrap it up. It turns our the mummy was stressed out because it was wound too tight.
It turns out that the jokes written on the tombs in hieroglyphics are all old ones.
Q. What is the difference between the Great Pyramid in Egypt and the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas?
Ages of neglect and pillaging have caused one of them to fall into disrepair. The other is in Egypt.
Q. How do ducks fly in Egypt?
They flock like an Egyptian.
OK, for some serious stuff:
There are over 100 pyramids in Egypt and most were built during a 1,000 period of time during the three millennia that Pharaohs ruled Egypt. Later Kings preferred being buried in The Valley of The Kings located in Upper Egypt which was better protected from grave robbers. Giza and neighboring Cairo are located closer to the Mediterranean in Lower Egypt. (Think southern Egypt = Upper Egypt and northern Egypt = Lower Egypt based on the flow of the Nile from upper to lower.)
It is believed that the idea of a pyramid came from the Egyptian creation story that in the creation of the earth a pyramid shaped island rose out of the sea and then the first plant grew on it. Pyramids symbolized creation as well as resurrection with an after life.
The pyramids were built by hired workers and not slaves which has been confirmed by the recent (1988) finding near the pyramids of Giza of a close to 20 acre workers village that is currently under excavation.
It took approximately 20 years to build each of the three main Giza pyramids which were built in succession. In 2,600 BC the first, and largest was built for King Khufu, the second for his son King Khafre, and the smallest for Khafre’s son King Menkaure.
All three of the main pyramids of Giza were once covered with a limestone coating that caused them to glisten in the sun. One can still see this coating at the top of the 2nd largest, King Khafre’s pyramid. Gold plating may also have also adorned the pyramids, at least in part.
Inside the middle of the pyramids at Giza there is a chamber in each connected by a tunnel where the mummified King was entombed. Earlier pyramids had their King buried below the surface of the ground under the pyramid. One can climb up and into the Great Pyramid to reach the chamber where King Khufu’s stone sarcophagus still remains. At close to 500 feet in height, the Great Pyramid was the tallest man made structure in the world for over 3,000 years. Built from over 2.3 million blocks of limestone, weighing from two to fifteen tons each, it remains as the only existing Wonder of the Ancient World.
The first large pyramid built in Egypt was the Step Pyramid of Djoser built at least 200 years earlier. It is included at the end of the below linked YouTube Playlist.

TODAY A MOTHER MOOSE AND HER CALF DECIDED "IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD" AS THEY SETTLED DOWN ON A NEIGHBOR'S LAWN
In fthe below linked Playlist, four video shorts are set to music. We get to see the progression of a mother moose and her offspring as they make themselves at home in my welcoming Anchorage Alaska neighborhood.
1st, the protective mother moose stands guard as her "baby" kneels down making itself comfortable as Conie Francis sings, "Pretty Little Baby."
2nd, Mother Moose kneels to join her calf now peacefully resting.
3rd, A jet raises up high in the sky as the two lay low below hunkered down on this crisp autumn day while the song, "Raise Me Up" plays.
4th, the pair contentedly munch in synchrony as they come into view from the opposite angle and a whimsical tune is heard.
