I noticed from backtracking that @thefinn has not posted to the thread in quite a while . . .and I have not seen him at our local shows for a while either. I will look into it a bit. He may be updating the front page but just not posting here in the depth of the pages . . . .

TomB . . . super. I am not sure what has happened to @thefinn . . . he had taken over from me after I took over from Simon. Thought it was up to date but not sure what is going on. I got back here since he is also quite a resource on the 1921 Peace Dollar history and I notice he has not posted on that thread either . . .despite his knowledge that can clear up a lot of the misconceptions in that thread . . . . . . . .

I just finished updating the Doily census thread late this evening (Sunday evening). It had been current up through December, 2023 and now I have an Excel spreadsheet that is current through today. Over one hundred new coins were added to the census and some types that had not been known before in Doily holders have now been added. In the next day or so I will send a backup Excel spreadsheet to @Lakesammman and will post screenshots here, as we have done previously.

For those interested in this census, when you find a coin to add to the list please post an image of at least the front of the slab showing the coin and the certification number so that we have visual proof the coin might still be in the holder.

Below please find 18 (eighteen!) individual screenshot images from the current PCGS Doily Census. The images are placed one after another so they might look like a single, long image, but instead they are eighteen images each containing approximately 40-44 cells worth of data. There are some notes I would like to write out about this data-

1) This represents a continuation of efforts that have been ongoing for approximately a decade on the PCGS boards and the generation of the original Excel spreadsheet for this census pre-dates my update and involvement in keeping the data accurate.

2) Many of the coins listed in this spreadsheet have been put there because of the efforts of PCGS board members who have gone out of their way to include images of coins in this thread.

3) As with any longterm spreadsheet project, there were/are some errors in the spreadsheet. I have done my best at the moment to balance correcting various errors with the idea that getting a new census out earlier with minor flaws was better than getting one out far later without minor flaws.

4) The census can be kept most accurate if each person takes an image of a newly found Doily holder that shows at least the obverse of the coin clearly as well as a completely legible certification number. There is one coin currently posted to this thread that I could not add yet because the image has glare across the certification number. I hope to get that coin added shortly.

5) If you know there are issues with the integrity of the slab, such as a cracked or missing plastic collar (aka gasket or ring), please include a note about that and make certain it is visible in the image(s) provided.

6) At least three coins that were previously noted as having missing gaskets now magically have gaskets in their newest images. I suspect they were all recipients of gasket donations from generation 2.1 holders. At least one Doily gasket recipient has the gasket on upside-down with PCGS embossed on the top of the gasket instead of the bottom.

7) One Doily holder appears to have been cracked out and an image of the paper certificate was included in this thread. I still have the coin listed as active, but it is highlighted in bold strawberry text. I did not remove it because the image of the paper certificate did not clearly, without doubt, show that it was separate from the coin.

8) At least one Doily that is missing its outer ring has also received a CAC gold sticker, which doesn't mean much other than I thought it was interesting.

9) Each of the eighteen images below should be able to be opened in a new tab or browser and will expand greatly to allow folks to easily read the certification number or other details.

Yippee. I have joined the Doily owners group. Really happy with this one. From what I can tell it is not represented in the spreadsheet. A very strong for grade MS64CAC 1881-S 7321252.

That 1915-D Lincoln cent listed on ebay closed this afternoon at $1,652.79 (plus $4.76 shipping). I think it safe to say that the seller did not appreciate what they had in terms of the holder, its scarcity or following because they didn't list it as either an OGH or as a Doily nor did they mention it anywhere in their ebay listing.

Did anyone here win it?

All the original doily label holders were made in 1989 and only had 7 digit certs.

PCGS offered a series of "retro" holders a few years ago and a new version of the Doily was one of the retro options. It might have cost a few bucks more to get the faux-Doily holder (or it might have been the same, I don't recall) but they aren't considered Doily holders by most anyone. The retro holders would have eight-digit cert numbers.

I grabbed this one as soon as I saw it. From what I can see it is not included in the census. So few Walkers and very few with CAC stickers. This is a worthy coin to fill my PCGS 2.0 slot in my early holder set of CAC Walkers.

I now have a PCGS 1.2 (65 CAC), 2.0 (64 CAC), 2.1A (65 CAC), 3.0 (65 GOLD CAC), an NGC 2.0 (65 GOLD CAC) and an NGC 4.0 (65 GOLD CAC).

@MtW124 the 1984 Lincoln cent you posted is in a PCGS rattler style holder, it does not have the doily paper insert. So, while it might be an extremely nice coin, it would not be added to the census in this thread.

Interesting. I wonder if they have ever tried to find a coin in a PCGS 2.1B holder. I am having a awful time doing that. Same with Gen 2.2. Even 2.1A's are impossible to find but Doily's are everywhere.

The oldslabholders website is indeed an excellent reference and source of information. True, Gen 2.0 Doily holders, which were produced September and October 1989, and Gen 2.2 collar holders, which were produced December 1989 into January 1990, are considered "scarce," but Generation 2.1 holders were produced for a longer time period, from October 1989 through December 1989, and are said to be "uncommon" -- not as scarce as Gen 2.0's or 2.2's.

There are three different versions of the Gen 2.1's though. One with a fine perforated label, one with a wide (rough) perforated label, and a wide perforated label with PCGS printed at the top. It can be a fun collecting goal to find an example of each. I have at least one of each Gen 2.1 varieties in my collection.
