I'm both happy that it isn't the Padres and worried that it's the Cubs.
I anticipated a hard road for the Cubs after burning so much energy the past 3 games, but the MLB scheduling geniuses have helped the cause by including off days between the first 3 games, which will allow better planning for pitchers. No planning though for guys who ain't hitting. They'd better wake 'em up fast for Freddy.

Andrew Vaughn seems like a much better hitter than where he was sitting in the Chicago minors. The Brewers weren’t going after him in the Civale trade either. The White Sox threw him away. The trade was about the Milwaukee culture and trying to treat Civale well. It’s half a season of MLB and he’s a hitter with a plus glove at 1st base that looks like an upgrade for about 10 clubs.
Shout out on the broadcast for Milwaukee official scorer Tim O’Driscoll today. Tim’s a great guy.
Minors is right.
Vaughn cooled down. Can't call him Jimmie Foxx anymore. More like Jim Rice now.

That was brutal behind the plate balls and strikes today.
It’s been erratic across the board all playoffs and yet no ejections in any game. PCA came close today after getting rung on a miserable check swing strike out. That’s why ABS will be radically changing the game next year. It’s necessary.

I thought Moscoso was solid in game 1. Game 2 was Estabrook right? He lives in Malachi Moorseville. Game 3 was Estabrook too. The last 2 games there's been 8 game-changers I noticed which were terrible calls that didn't end up tipping the game for either team. That top of the 8th tonight the Cubs almost got burned by some of those "borderline" calls that were in the strike zone.
As far as ABS goes the strike-zone, as a rule, is a dynamic and somewhat abstract thing so I'm really interested in seeing how ABS is interpreted. Has the zone become a fixed thing now which isn't dependent on the player's natural stance and some vague and subjective definitions?

Hoskins not on the NLDS roster because Jake Bauers and Andrew Vaughn... is not something I had on my 2025 season card.

Congrats to the Brewers. Hard earned and well deserved series win. Good luck in the NLCS.
Great season for the Cubs. They are a few pitchers away from being there and they would have won this game but for a few degrees on Suzuki's bat. I am scared every time he comes to the plate. I look forward to this rivalry in the Central for years to come - I hate the Cards more and I like Counsell.
If there's a MVP of this NLDS I think I am going to say it's Andrew Vaughn. His 3-R answer in Game 2 and his response to put them back on top tonight was clutch. More likely than not he disappears next year... but I was impressed with his approach at the plate this year in Milwaukee.
On the pitching side, and much to my surprise, Misiorowski was impressive, but... Chad Patrick was excellent in that series.
Need to figure out 4 wins now against a tough team which just destroyed the team I thought was the most complete in all of MLB to boldly go where no Brewer has gone before. Probably won't see Woodruff take Kershaw deep this time around but stranger things have happened.

I agree on Foxx. Vaughn has a lifetime 101 OPS+. So his bat has had some value. His Jimmie Foxx surge with the Brewers actually brought his 2025 OPS+ to 99. If he puts the work in maybe he could realize some of his potential that he never did with the Sh!t Sox.
The Brewers have their hands full with a fully healthy Dodger team. Dodgers picked a good time to be at full strength...of course when your team is stacked you can take your time in the regular season with your injured guys.
Dodgers SP are stacked. If Peralta was on LA, he would likely be the Dodgers fifth starter at this point.
David vs. Goliath at this point in time. Dodgers won as David in 1988 so maybe the Brewers can do the same.

I like that. The idea of the Dodgers as unbeatable should take the pressure off. Let's go with that.
What a game. Roberts almost took the victory away by taking out Snell. He saved himself seeing that Sasaki was early April Sasaki and taking him out. Why Turang doesn't wear that pitch is a mystery. Makes me appreciate guys like Biggio and Baylor more and more.
I have to say that Sal Frelick looks like he just walked off the set of All the Right Moves(1983), took off his Ampipe letterman jacket, and then went to play CF for the Brewers. Then after the game he and Vinnie Salvucci tossed back some beers.
That crazy play. Have to get Contreras credit for noticing it right away and playing for the force at home and then getting the double play. You can see Frelick saying "Wtf just happened!?".

I hope Turang isn't catching too much heat for that - it's tough to not react to dodge. That whole at bat was poor but give credit to Treinen for putting him in a tough spot. You look at the pitch he struck out on and the first pitch of the AB and they're the same angle and same ball path until they're not.

I don't fault him for swinging at the high pitch. Those bullpen arms are tremendous.
But at risk of sounding like a 'get off my lawn guy', you have to wear that pitch in that situation. Doesn't take much skill to do that. He took a good amount of effort to avoid it too. They could have stolen that game.
This may be the worst analogy of all time. But for some reason the Dodgers remind me of a typical cute high school girl when you're in high school, and out on a date with her. She will let you get close, but never let you win the big prize.
The Dodgers did that to the Phillies in some situations, and the Dodgers just did that yesterday to the Brewers in the bottom of the ninth.

It was probably instinctive more of I'm afraid to get hit type of thing
You pay these guys a lot of money to realize these situations though

Yes absolutely. Kind of have to go up there with it in your mind before the at bat in that situation.
Got em right where we want em. That was a fun 5 innings of pitching to watch. Brewers hitting is the absolute worst in this series. Yelich has looked like he’s lost at the plate.

Dodgers look unbeatable. Their starting pitching is so good. Each of them throws 95-100 with command, movement, and multiple filthy breaking pitches. They are making the Brewers lineup look much worse than they are. When they are on like this I don't think any lineup looks good.
Still have to play the gams though. The World Series isn't a given until it is a given. Still have to win this game too.
They started 0-4 and finished 0-4. In between they won 100 games. Impressive team. Good season. No shame in this. I’m looking forward to next season. The NL Central should be VERY competitive top to bottom. See ya when pitchers & catchers report.
Brewers have 25 of the 26 players who appeared in the NLCS under contract for 2026. Maybe they can look like "not a really good team" next year and make some noise again. Was a really fun season to watch even if the Uecker Magic ran out against that juggernaut.

Back to Jimmie Foxx?
9 Runs with 0 HRs in Game 1
7 Runs on 3 HRs in Game 2
Best stat of the night however is that all the Brewers Runs so far have come after 2 outs with bases empty.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. But geez. What a juggernaut. Tip o' the cap.
Absolutely!

It's so quiet in Milwaukee tonight, you can hear a pin drop.
Brewers need to put together some better at bats or this series is gonna be over quick out West.
