I posted some cents earlier, but how about nickels?

What's the grade of that 50-D on the bottom?

The 1948 Ben Franklin Half Dollar reverse design was taken from the 1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.

PCGS gave it an MS66+. It is not an FS because of the post-strike impact at the left side of the steps. I don’t get the rationale - if this is a strike designation it should only be about the strike, not about some random impact that happened later.

Thanks @Ronsanderson It's a great looking coin. I was comparing it to a 67 FS I recently had graded.

Man, your Mom must have been in labor for a really long time!!! 1941-1945?

LOL, It's a WWII commemorative so it has the dates of the war but the coin was minted in my birth year, 1975.

I paid way too much for this many years ago. Franklin Half Dollars were has hot as firecrackers in the early 1980s.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

A little OT for a second. Talking about age and our hobby.. Made me think of doing an AI search. 🤣 🤣 For some reason, I'm thinking the vast majority of us are all in the same boat. 🤣

    AI Overview:
While specific hobbies vary widely by individual, some activities often stereo-typically associated with older white men include golf, coin collecting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and classic car restoration. It is important to note that these are broad generalizations and do not reflect the diverse interests of all older white men.

1958 Proof Set, damaged packaging, all coins have some sort of toning. This is the first time I have brought this out of storage in many years, didn't realize the packaging was damaged.

@Iceberg77 - Was the coin damaged?

Here’s something else from my birth year, 1961 🌞
The pages are out of order, would have taken too much effort to post them one at a time. Not every page loaded right either, but you get the idea.

I picked up this 1961 Christmas Tree Dime holder recently from eBay too as another example of a numismatic related item from my birth year 🌝

I've been working in my birthyear proof set in dcam for a very long time. The nickel and dime are particularly tough in dcam.

@Mr_Spud . Talk about a flash from the past. I was born in 1961. My brother Don bought the Teasure huntbook and the Lincoln folder. He lost interest and gave it to me in the later 60's. I found the coins would fall out way too easy so I threw it away and stuck with my Whitman blue folders. James

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

No, the coins aren't damaged, just the cellophane packaging. The Franklin 50 cent piece, which had the most damaged part of the packaging, is like a deep purple color
