Regarding the Arizona implosion the ball carrier dropping the ball before the goal line was just a criminal event if your an Arizona guy, the interception was caused by a tipped ball and turned into a classic NFL follies highlight reel
There's no excuse for this loss of focus, but... I like when something like this happens because it highlights a rather melancholy irony of modern sports which seems to impact outcomes much more often than it deserves to...
The game changing because we have the ability to review at a microscopic level the integrity of certain plays.
Which is great.
But then I'll see a TD called back or a drive stall because of rather random and subjective flags and those game-changing plays are not so meticulously reviewed. Football has become little more than a series of random coin flips. Try explaining to a child what a catch is. Just watch their face. Even they know the NFL is stupid.

i think barstool is coming at it from this angle: if you can go into Buffalo and take out the Bills, then there shouldn't be a single game on your schedule where you say to yourself, "ah, we just can't win that one." now go look at New England's next 8 games. it's not murderer's row, it's an ass cheeks convention. they could easily be 9-4 heading into their bye week. scrape together another W in their final 4 to get to 10, and they're all but guaranteed to be playing some extra football this year.

Their schedule is supposedly one of the easiest ones in NFL history and the playoffs are a legit possibility but I think that the hype surrounding this team has been a bit exaggerated since that game Sunday night.
Had a sliver of De’Von Achane’s cleat not touched out of bounds in that Miami game, they could very easily be sitting at 2-3 right now where the narrative Is completely different.
I think that their play during this current two game winning streak has been the team’s peak play and to expect that each and every week would be unrealistic. They’re going to have more bad games, that’s just inevitable, and they’re also going to eventually lose a major contributor at a key position and there’s a huge drop off in talent after their #1 guy for each positional group.
They just lost their RB2, Antonio Gibson, for the season at a time when the RB1, Stevenson, is making a great case to be benched. If either Stevenson or RB3 TreVeyon Henderson Roll an ankle on Sunday it’s going to get RuhRoh real quick.
CB Christian Gonzalez missed the first three games and the team went 1-2 where the secondary got torched. Hunter Henry, Diggs, Will Campbell or Morgan Moses, or another RB or even Drake Maye go down and that specific positional group going forward is going to be a net negative due to the drop off in talent. IIRC they have at least 11rookies on the roster and that number is likely going to increase when there’s still four more months of football.
All I’m saying is that they’re just as likely to have a bad game as they would a good one. That was a great win on Sunday night but if they follow it up with a stinker against New Orleans then the hype train would stall real quick. They’re definitely showing improvement with each new week which has been awesome, I just want to see them to continue doing that before labeling them as a playoffs team/contender.
@Steven59 said: Oh boy - Sanders is the back-up QB now. What if Gabriel has a bad game? Here comes another QB controversy
What do you mean "here comes" another QB controversy?? This has been developing for months and was given the stamp of approval a week ago when they switched to Gabriel.
Overall, it makes no sense in terms of reasoning and timing, but what do I know, I'm only a fan. As you say, Sanders is now the back-up QB to fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel who did nothing last week to prove himself competent or able to win. He had that opportunity but apparently by either design or ability can't really throw downfield more than 10 yards. Cleveland is in a terrible position since they cannot stretch the field. Watch for a run heavy offense, screen passes, swing passes and QB run/option because they have nothing else. All those who believe that teams "dump" a season for a draft pick should pay attention. The proof is residing in Cleveland and Berea.

With the Browns crappy Offensive Line it's just a matter of time.
Especially with Dillons significant injury history in college breaking his collar bone ending his season at UCF. Hes very slow for a guy thats a smaller QB
I don't know if I would say breaking a UCL is a significant injury history. Collar bone is a bad luck injury. Also, and not that it means anything, but, it doesn't not mean anything; He's taller and faster than Drew Brees.. and he loves Jesus more. OK - maybe not but it's a tie.
Joe Flacco is without a doubt at the end of his career. He is a good leader and should be the game manager the Bengals need right now. He does one thing badly, tends to throw INT's, but he does a lot of other things very good. With a solid OL and top WR's I expect to see a different player than what Browns' fans witnessed. Primarily, it will be in who he's throwing to because the Cincy receivers know how to get open.
WR's can do three things when the ball comes their way on target:
--- catch the ball.
--- drop the ball.
--- deflect the ball to a defender.
On the rare occasion when a Cleveland receiver created some separation they tended to do the latter two when the ball arrived.
Cincinnati receivers tend to catch the ball.

if Demercado felt bad before, i guarantee you he feels like sh*t now
just me, but if i was him and i made enough money, i'd take care of that fine for my HC without hesitation..........because i caused ALL OF THIS
i read a stat yesterday: teams up 22 in the 4th were 1,276-1. Demercado was mere inches away from sticking his team into a realm where you never lose
if you go back and watch that play, it's a teachable moment not only for him, but also watch L'Jarius Sneed of the Titans. think about it, he was on a winless team that was getting blown out and on the verge of 0-5. if any player had reason to let up on that play, it was him. yet he hauled ass to the plane of the end zone trying to track Demercado down. he attempted to punch the ball out and missed, but the salient point is that he didn't give up on the play when he had every reason to. then we have Demercado who not only let go of the ball too early, but the dude was slowing down on his way to the end zone. bro there are fast guys in every secondary, wtf are you doing. it's as if his brain completely shut down about halfway through that run

Demercado is currently playing on a UDFA minimum contract while Gannon’s salary is somewhere in the 3-5M range so I don’t see the player paying that fine, even when it was entirely his fault.
I don’t have an issue with Gannon laying into his player for a major F-up, just don’t do it in front of a million cameras like he did. Because at that point Johnathan Gannon becomes the story and not Emari Demercado casually dropping the football just before crossing the goal line.
As soon as I first saw that clip of Gannon’s reaction on the sidelines I did a quick Google search to see how the media was responding to it all and Gannon had immediately had become the bad guy. There were even complaints about Gannon “hitting” him lol.
I just look at it as, just wait until you’re behind closed doors before you tear the guy a new one. That way, no one gets to complain about how you handled your player in that situation and the team doesn’t need to hit your wallet when you were basically just doing your job coaching the team.
One thing is for sure though, I bet that at this very moment there’s probably some Cards RB coach out on their practice field who’s following Emari Demercado around while screaming “Finish the F’n play.”
he got fined not because he got in his face, but because he got physical with him. had he not made contact (he did it multiple times) he'd be 100k richer. but honestly i don't blame him. i can all but guarantee my emotions would have superseded my brain and i would have lost it too. and just remember, the circus hadn't ended at that point. the interception for a TD came after that, and then they allowed Tennessee to blow down the field for a game-winning FG on the last play. i'm surprised Gannon wasn't dropped off at an insane asylum after the game
edit: and the paying of the fine comment was strictly hypothetical, hence the "if." i know he doesn't make much -- he's buried on the depth chart behind Conner and Benson. but both of those guys are hurt, and he was given an opportunity that he otherwise wouldn't have had. if they weren't razor-thin at RB he probably would have been benched or cut

Yup and had he did it behind closed doors there wouldn’t have been a million sets of eyes watching who would immediately want to shame the HC for shaming his player publicly.
At that point the Cards owner had to step in with a 100k reprimand of the guy to appease all the Karen’s out there when in reality coaches get physical with players on a daily basis.
the barstool description of the Cardinals in their rankings is humorous, but it's so apropos. i follow that team closer than i normally would because of Murray, and i'm here to tell you that if i was a full-blown Cards fan i would be a raging alcoholic. no team gift-wraps games on a consistent basis quite like Arizona does. get this. they've lost 3 in a row -- all on the last play of the game. almost every game is a microcosm of their season the past few years or so. they blast out of the gate, then it reaches a point either in the game or the season where they look like a completely different team and totally forget how to execute. and it's not just the players. the play calling is horrific. the coaches turn into cowards. on so many occasions they have had a lead in a game -- and sometimes a very big lead -- only to morph into a team that plays not to lose. and then they find a way to do just that........lose. they did it spectacularly last week. in that game they had the look of a team that could name their score in the first half, then they proceeded to put up a grand total of zero points in the 2nd at home against arguably the worst team in the league. that is the Arizona Cardinals.
so when barstool says "beyond sick of their shit"...........they get an A+++++ for that

I remember first hearing about him in his first Vikings training camp. He was outstanding! A 5th round pick.
Later, I heard rumors that he fell in the draft because of an attitude problem, but he sure was good here for a few years. Then you started to see that he was at least another prima Donna and at worst a freaking nut case. (See Percy Harvin). Suddenly he was traded!
Thankfully the Vikings drafted Justin Jefferson to replace Diggs and Stefon seemed to thrive in Buffalo, but after 4 pro bowl seasons I guess he wore out his welcome there?
I think he has some emotional problems. He's not the kind of player I want on my team, but he sure has talent.

@perkdog said: He might be on the same level. as Russell Wilson.
I think there's a difference between the two:
--- Wilson was still in the midst of his career when he was traded to Denver and to all eyes he made a conscious decision to mail it in for that season, when he was traded to be a starter and revive Denver. Even when he was traded from Denver the presumption was for him to start. Somewhere after his 1st year in Denver I think it became clear to fans that he was done as a starting QB. I am not sure if the NFL knows that yet, he keeps getting tabbed as a starter.
--- Joe Flacco was still doing a fine job as a starter until he was injured and the change to Lamar Jackson took place. In a strange twist, Flacco was traded to Denver as a starter but when a mid-season injury sidelined him again I think his career was relegated to being a back-up and no longer QB1 with any franchise.
In my mind they are both back-ups so I'm in agreement with you, but I think part of the NFL still thinks Wilson can be a QB1.

Oh boy - Sanders is the back-up QB now. What if Gabriel has a bad game? Here comes another QB controversy -

Might as well throw Shedeur out there at some point to see what you have.

Well he didn't throw an interception!

With the Browns crappy Offensive Line it's just a matter of time.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
dont you do it!!
dont you dare get me all worked up/hot and bothered for a potential playoff run...
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Especially with Dillons significant injury history in college breaking his collar bone ending his season at UCF. Hes very slow for a guy thats a smaller QB

Maybe my prediction of Sanders starting by week 5 will come true!

Cincinnati receivers tend to catch the ball.

flacco... please.
I heard he isn't even good at putting the kids to bed.
Sure but there is a reason why he has been passed around the league like a peace pipe
He might be on the same level. as Russell Wilson
if Demercado felt bad before, i guarantee you he feels like sh*t now
just me, but if i was him and i made enough money, i'd take care of that fine for my HC without hesitation..........because i caused ALL OF THIS
i read a stat yesterday: teams up 22 in the 4th were 1,276-1. Demercado was mere inches away from sticking his team into a realm where you never lose
if you go back and watch that play, it's a teachable moment not only for him, but also watch L'Jarius Sneed of the Titans. think about it, he was on a winless team that was getting blown out and on the verge of 0-5. if any player had reason to let up on that play, it was him. yet he hauled ass to the plane of the end zone trying to track Demercado down. he attempted to punch the ball out and missed, but the salient point is that he didn't give up on the play when he had every reason to. then we have Demercado who not only let go of the ball too early, but the dude was slowing down on his way to the end zone. bro there are fast guys in every secondary, wtf are you doing. it's as if his brain completely shut down about halfway through that run
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

@erikthredd
he got fined not because he got in his face, but because he got physical with him. had he not made contact (he did it multiple times) he'd be 100k richer. but honestly i don't blame him. i can all but guarantee my emotions would have superseded my brain and i would have lost it too. and just remember, the circus hadn't ended at that point. the interception for a TD came after that, and then they allowed Tennessee to blow down the field for a game-winning FG on the last play. i'm surprised Gannon wasn't dropped off at an insane asylum after the game
edit: and the paying of the fine comment was strictly hypothetical, hence the "if." i know he doesn't make much -- he's buried on the depth chart behind Conner and Benson. but both of those guys are hurt, and he was given an opportunity that he otherwise wouldn't have had. if they weren't razor-thin at RB he probably would have been benched or cut
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

In my mind they are both back-ups so I'm in agreement with you, but I think part of the NFL still thinks Wilson can be a QB1.

i want you guys to ff to the 1:00 mark and watch the game-winning TD where Lawrence fell down, then scored. pay particular attention to Chris Jones, who was lined up over the right guard. only thing that dude cared about was tapping out and collecting his fat paycheck.
i sure wish darin was around so i could get his take on this
