October Tricks or Treats...What's in your Halloween Bag

I will start this month off with a card which arrived early this afternoon (10/1). It's a low-to-mid grade card presenting above its assigned grade. I was sold on the centering as well as the bright, beautiful hues. And no creases or spider wrinkles.

Gorgeous card! With no creasing/wrinkling and great centering, it’s hard to believe those corners warrant the lower grade.
Amazing card for the grade! Congrats!
Not here yet. Upgrade from "authentic ".

My modern 3-card sub just POPPED, after nearly 4 months at PSA.
Bummer on the 8, though.
Beautiful Satchell!
Monte - that is a monster of a Paige😳 congrats on a great pickup.
KC
Picked up this stadium giveaway bobblehead. It depicts the famous photo taken immediately after the last out of an 11-0 rout in Game 7 of the 1985 I-70 Series.

Grabbed a newly graded OPC Morgan. Pop 5 only 2 higher and no 9's or 10's.
Really nice Satch
Centering is great

Just closed the deal on this one today. Not a bad mate for the 57 Willie I picked up a week ago. Save a ton of $$ not hunting for an 8, and really like how they look from an eye appeal perspective.
Keith…
Those 57s are centered with beautiful color….producing exceptional eye appeal of a much higher grade. Congrats…on those pickups!
KC, congrats. Both of those are art work. Beautiful 57's.
Is something going on with images on posts? They are all flattened on both my phone and PC.
Think that way for everyone. All these beautiful cards are ugly.
Ok thanks. Gonna hold off posting on my RIP thread. I have some DOOZY 1/1 Break Cards that will be coming up.
Had a gift voucher - so I sent this one in - happy it got a 10.
Another sub just POPPED. Small PC sub. Couple of tougher finds.
I listed the 77 Hostess Twinkies as a Complete Panel. PSA changed it to Hand Cut. I reported the error during grading and they left it as-is. I think the grader thinks it was cut beyond the dotted lines left/right, except there are NO dotted lines left/right for this issue, and it's a complete single card panel. I feel the Authentic grade is in error because of this. I opened a case.
There are no Ron Cey complete panels graded, but this is lumped in with the Hand Cut cards.
The Wendys Disc only had 1 ever graded. I was lucky to find a raw one.
Weird that the 2 discs were put in 2 different insert style holders.
Just secured a few nice mid-grade 1971 OPC cards. The set build project is sputtering along so I thought I'd grab some graded ones not needed for the set. People complain about the grades PSA is doling out these days but it affords an opportunity to get some good deals on PSA 6's and 7's. All around, I like the Luzinski best. The Cloninger has great centering and the Merritt is really sharp while being centered a tad too high. Bonus: The cards were US sourced so no 35% added cost.

I looked over into the coin forum and found a thread that indicated the image distortion issue is being worked on.
I was wondering if it was just me seeing the images poorly :-)
Wow those OPC 6s are yesterdays 8s. Great pickup, sucks to be the submitter thinking he had NM cards (spoiler, he did).
Just got this back from PSA, new suit.
You can tell Bobby is in a good mood.
More shiny and die-cut goodness......
Got these in the mail recently.
First, I mentioned this last month as something I was targeting when I saw it mentioned on the Angels broadcast. As everyone knows, Trouty is my favorite player to watch, and I rarely miss a game. Thank God, though, for MLB.TV and the archives. I just find it absolutely fascinating that a player can be so exceptionally good with nothing on the line, and then turn into such a schlub with just the slightest increase in pressure.
This is modeled with the 2011 Update design, and likely has an even less pop than the actual card. I love it!

This next one is self explanatory, as I love all things Trouty!

Then, of course, also being a Royals fan, I had to finally pick up a Greg Holland bobblehead. He's the pitcher that ended both Game 2 and Game 3 of the 2014 ALDS by striking out Trouty each time with ease. Game 3 was 11 years ago today, in fact. It really is so hard to believe that it's been 11 years since Trouty last played in the postseason. I hold out hope that I can live long enough to see it finally happen again.
.
Being a completionist, even though I find it ridiculously stupid that this card is required, I finally picked up the 1982 Tom Seaver error card. It is the last card that I need for the 1982 Topps Hall of Fame subset, as it's currently constructed. I'm sure there will be a few additions made eventually, like Terry Francona and Dusty Baker, and perhaps even a few more.
If you are unfamiliar with the error, the word "tied" on the back of the card is missing the letter "i". Lol
A large number of Robin Yount rookie cards come with a big blue puddle between his legs, which you can obviously see and is completely ignored when grading, but the missing letter here, on the back, is a significant variation. OK, got it...

.
What did Trout do to you, man? Stalker vibes.
I've had this card in my set 60/40 for years - found this one centered.

The one I replaced:
Is that Mike Trout as a garden gnome?
Yes, but instead of sunlight turning him to stone, it's fastballs right down the middle that do the trick.
Another sub POPPED today. 4 months at PSA.

Pretty harsh grading.
This is what grades used to look like for comparison. Rusty specs on the rim and all.
picked up this nice 76 bb wax tray at REA marketplace,
this is the same 76 tray that was floating around the last 10 plus years in the gai holder labeled as a 74 tray.
originally I was going after a spectacular 76 bb tray in the memory lane auctions about 2 months ago
that 76 tray looked amazing, all 3 packs were amazing and all centered nearly perfect plus the price tag wrapper was also
centered. maybe that is why that 76 tray went for over 4,000$ which is more than I wanted to pay for a 76 bb tray

A couple of October treats.

That 67 Clemente is one of my favorites. Maybe his best portrait photo on any card. That ones a beauty.
Just picked up this beauty from a follow club member.
A bit of a “needle in a haystack” at a smaller show in a small town 45 minutes away.
God is that a beauty
One of my favorite cards as a kid and to this day since I was a Bench fan, and this was my first year of playing baseball and my Reds won their 2nd World Series. This was on eBay and was an auction that started at the price of an 8 and I was the only bidder for some reason. Could not believe I grabbed it for the starting bid price.
@KendallCat Congrats on the pickup! One of my favorite cards as well. If only that card could talk. To me, it looks like Johnny is saying "Anyone else want to try to steal home?"

Thank you. I have about 6-7 copies already with a PSA 9, 8.5, 8… and this will be my second 8.5. Crazy thing is VCP shows the last 8.5 sold back in 2021 for $350. This grade never comes up for sale for some reason.
Yeah, that's the greatest Bench card of them all. Just straight up bad man in that photo. That's top 10 one of the best shots on any BB card from the 70s.
Got this group in today:

I'm getting into 2000-2015 Topps Chrome serial numbered refractor star cards. I think they have a LOT of upside.
I just won this item tonight. 1985 Topps Baseball rack box from a sealed case. Its a birthday gift for my son-in-law.
All great items but that Gus Johnson Rawlings photo is really special.
Thanks @2014. Been looking for a long time. Now i need to work on the 63
Beautiful signatures. The Conley and Kemmerer sigs are so clear.

I found a bunch of the old Topps rookies packs from when I was a wee lad and have started sending some of those off for autographs to collect the stars and HOFers. Sheff has won the race to my collection. PSA doesn’t seem to like the rough cut on the fresh from the pack Toys-R-Us cards as much as I do. Shout out to Toys-R-Us Brookfield WI. RIP.
