    Here are the SPECIAL ONES!

    On the Griffey...
    I experimented!
One area had a white chip!
Well, I took a chance and filled it with a Black Magic Marker.
    Hoping PSA didn't catch it?
    We'll see???

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!

    Just OK

I suspect the Skenes was strictly graded as most big stars are. Seems lesser stars get a more favorable grade as they are not traded as frequently. Population control has been an ongoing comment by many so star cards are scrutinized more. Will be interesting to see if you slid one by the grader with you "adjustment" to the Griffey auto. If you did, trouble with that is all know it now here in hobby land.

    Very Disappointing

Pirates are 67 and 89. Skenes is 10-10 with under a 2 era. Impressive. Not nearly as impressive as the Rockies though.

Is Ken Griffey more famous than Skenes?

    Just OK

I predict PSA will catch the Griffey color addition. Haven't graded with PSA in years, so I'm not sure if it will affect the grade or have them add a qualifier. Good luck!

You shouldn’t doctor cards. Since you seem to have the awareness of a child you get a pass but be aware that it’s not an accepted practice and it may result in your being banned from grading and having your other certs deactivated.

    Thanks for participating.
Not doctoring, repairing. Like when many "wipe down" cards (cleaning) before sending out.
    Thanks😊

add me to the "no card doctoring camp" if it is anything more than removing fingerprints with a microfiber cloth (and I could even be swayed that is too much) i consider it doctoring and very bad form/industry non acceptable

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • gemintgemint Posts: 6,191 ✭✭✭✭✭

Retouching corners is never acceptable. There's virtually no chance PSA won't detect it either. Touch ups are quite easy to detect with the right tools.

Agree with others, expect to be disappointed because your Griff SR is coming back altered.

Would I want to buy a card that someone had altered, even if it slipped by the authenticator? No.

So I guess I also wouldn't want to be one of the ones altering cards. ;)

    Very Disappointing

I also agree the machine they zip it through will catch the added color. Might ding the other left corner during the process but that's another problem to worry about.

    😆
    The "REVEAL" is coming!
    Alright guys, I give in.
You all are right! It's not good to approach it this way. Remember,
I did say in my opening statement.
    "It's an experiment!"
This is the first and only time I colored any chips or anything.
    I have another Ken Sr.
just in case my experiment went south!
    😆

    Looks very good, no?

    NO Chips! 😄

    OK?
    This was a test...
For PSA, you guys and for me, as well.
    The ones that passed.
    First of all, "you guys"
    Thanks
    and the ones that failed;
    Me and....Drum Roll.............

    REVEAL TIME!

    PSA!
    Yep,
    PSA certified it!
    😆

    PSA 8

I wanted to see if the new strict concerns of PSA would actually detect my
    Doctoring?
    They didn't!
Probably bc they're more concerned with the silliness of the borders needing to be
    Perfect now?
I also didn't expect you guys to really stand by any alternating such to this?
    Good!
I, for one, wouldn't allow any "wiping/cleaning" as well.
I'm thinking like the coin hobby!
    NO CLEANING COINS!
    😆
    Mind you, also guys.
This is not an attempt to ridicule or put down PSA!
Just to see how their strict new rules apply.
    Now, as to the
    Full Reveal
First, thank you everyone for participating in my Poll/Experiment.
Thanks for your caring and honest opinions too!

    Oh,
    The REVEAL...

    OK,
    Here we gooooooooooooo!
    😆
    First of all,
    My Question
Here's my true final overall feelings!
    Ready?
    The Answer is...
    A.

    Overwhelmed & Ecstatic!

It's funny, only two of you guys got it right.
    My most harshest critic
(even though he's helping me more than criticism) and my best supporter!
    😆You two guys are correct!
    Now, here's why I'm
    "Overwhelmed & Ecstatic"
    First, the obvious.
The Griffey not body bagged.but a PSA 8.
When I get back my cards, I'll show you where I touched it up.
Then so happy and jubilant bc
    of some other cards results!
    😆
    Yep, wow!
I wasn't really surprised on my '87 Mcguire and Bonds
    cards. Not good.
    They received a 4 & 5!
Pulled from a Walgreens mixed baseball box.
    Now about the others.
My concern in the 2 GOLDEN MIRRORS
    One, not too pleased.
However, the other. The better of the two.
    Received a 9!
Very Happy! It's already a SP.
    Now even more!
    After explaining all this guys.
I'll actually show the PSA document and grades, later.
    Now...
Getting to the Real Good parts!
You guys probably already know what I'm leading up to?

    I really didn't expect this!
Although, not a real Earthshaking card but my
    Shohei...

    GEMMED!

    Yes! A 10!
    Like this. Not mine

No true value but my only
    10 Shohei!
    Then...
    Then...
    Then...

    My main concern of ALL!
    My Mr. Paul Skenes
    Personally my
    BEST CARD in my whole
    Inventory!
    Where I pulled that magnificent
    REDEMPTION CARD from Heritage!
    The ROA, Blue Ink.
    Still have it

    My Paul Skenes...
    Actually hit that honorable
    Plateau
Made it to be my only
    Grail card!
    A

    Gem Mint 10!!!

    "OVERWHELMED & ECSTATIC!"

    I still can't believe it!
    WOW
    I'm gonna try like heck,
    To keep in my
    PC!. Especially the way that
    Paul's been playing!
Mannnn, what a true great pitcher in what a true pitcher means in the game of Baseball!
Someone like him only comes around in a generation!
I'm glad to be in this generation!
    WOW!
    Thanks again everyone.
    <3
    Here are some listing.
    I blotted out my name.
    Next post for more room...

Half of the votes, 50%, were for disappointment!
I get it! Most of the time I am, esp Ripping lately...
    But, not this time baby!
    😆

Now can you see why I'm so pleased and overly joyful?
    Guys,
What does that ORANGE SQUARE mean?
    In the Paul Skenes, 10?

    :*
    An up charge?
    I can understand why.
    Thank you ALL!

@joeykoins Sorry to hear about the low grades on the 87 Topps. There are many threads on here about similar grades on vintage (80s and older).

Also congrats on that Paul Skenes and Ohtani 10!

I was going to ask way back when what service you used, price per card and insured, because I would put the Skenes on a different planet in terms of value than some of the other cards in terms of value in a PSA 10. Maybe even as an 8 it gets the upcharge.

I agree with everyone that you dont want to doctor cards and try to get away with it, especially if you ever plan to let the card leave the personal collection.

I would also say if you did that you dont want to go on the message board of the company that did not catch it and admit to it. Its honest so there is something redeemable to that but its kind of like going on Hyundai's message board and saying you broke into the lot last night and went for a joy ride. Not sure anything positive can come from it in terms of your grading present and future with PSA. I think they are too busy to read the message boards but you just never know.

I imagine part of why they let it go is they probably did not go over it with a fine-tooth comb because for that card the 8 and an Auth grade may have similar value. If you tried to add some white-out to a nice looking Rickey Henderson rookie I would expect them to catch it 999 times out of 1000.

    Congrats on the Skenes grade.

I enjoy your rips and most of all your excitement, but, I think you'll find that what you did is wrong, and because you're submitting these cards to PSA you have a duty to be aware of the rules. You're agreeing in that submission that you have not submitted cards which you have knowingly altered, and then you're coming on these boards and undermining the process. And I meant what I said regarding I give you a pass because you're ignorant on this process. I mean that and I am not criticizing you. But now you know, and be aware, that many in the collecting community have a distaste for alteration. We want to believe that our slabbed treasures are those lucky few which escaped unscathed... and unaltered. I suspected you would be happy with the results because you seem to have the right attitude. Now you have the right information. Good luck!

What if the OP is actually Paul Skenes? Then it would be kinda like he just signed it twice. Once in blue and once real small on the corner in black.

This is the world we live in. People who flaunt their ability to cheat the system, break the rules, and applaud themselves. No more so than this risky, shameless modern card business.

If you were joking that was NOT funny, not funny at all. If you were serious, and I'm thinking your were, than that is sickening especially in light of your forum post Sig (signature).

P.S. I do not think you are ignorant. The very fact that you stated Hoping PSA didn't catch it? eliminates that as any reasonable possibility.

I believe in what Jesus teached and I do not act like I would want to act (harsh and with vengeance) I act like he asked us to act with mercy and forgiveness. Like he said we shall be judged at the same level as we judge others (so be kind but correct bad behaviour nicely if possible).

Keep your sig line people always seems to forget that Jesus forgives (much worse things that what you did to that card may I add) but once forgiven we should strive not to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Jesus is about forgiveness not revenge (humans are quick to judgment and revenge). Chalk it up as lesson learned and like I said keep the card do not sell it.

If it truly was just an experiment, a "I wonder if I can get away with this" that had no malicious intent, then the honorable thing to do would be to video busting the card out of the slab and then returning the flip to PSA so that the card was removed from the pop reports and would not be sold as an unaltered, PSA graded card. That would, I think, be the ethical thing to do at this point. I know that a lot of people, and a lot of card pricing, depends heavily on the pop reports and the integrity of slabbed cards. If you've managed to knowingly sneak one by, then I think you have a responsibility to destroy the holder and return the flip.
    Just my two cents.

That is another option to relax nerves here on the forum. I understand why people do not like what he did. But he should not be judged so hard he knows now.

How much did it sale for is one of the funniest and most ignorant things I've ever heard.

    Overwhelmed & Ecstatic

Joey I would break it out and send the PSA label back to PSA with a note so they know what happened and can change the pop reports. That is the fair thing to do. As for the card I mean maybe best to destroy it so no one gets caught with the card at any point as a buyer.

You have to understand this is very serious for many collectors so please take the advice above.

Maybe time for everyone to chill, there are about a gazillion altered cards in TPG holders. We probably shouldn’t hold this Griffey to a higher standard then the Mastro Wagner.
