An interesting scam (?) attempt - let me know your thoughts please

Here is a slightly different take on the old type of scam we have seen.
There is a new member who posted a legitimate thread. Please see below.

https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1116934/sac-collectors-question

Then someone mentioned that he sent the typical message we have seen many times on this forum.

Now I received something a little different.

Here is my post:
https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1116896/want-to-buy-pcgs-rattlers-starting-with-109-and-110

And the message I received has a coin with the exact same cert number but it looks different. Is this some type of photoshop using a different coin? It is certainly odd!

Here are the words under the picture from the message:

    Scam, regardless of the variation.

It certainly is. I’m just wondering how the photo was done and why they chose the same exact cert number? Probably not something that can be learned but it makes me wonder.

That's above my paygrade but I assume it's photoshopped or otherwise altered. It's well done, though.

It definitely had me doing a double take.

Rule of thumb: I never buy anything from someone that knocks on my door. I also would never buy anything from someone who PM's me.

My guess is that they don't know enough about TPG slabs to know that each certification number is unique. And that they thought showing you exactly what you were looking for would get you to bite. The specifics of where the picture came from is beside the point given all the available images of rattlers and Franklins.

It is also possible that Jazzycard was a legit brand new member whose account got hijacked and doesn’t know how to ask for help… I’m not sure I would tbh

The scammers coin looks like a business strike rather than a proof which immediately raises a big red flag.

Yeah, Jazzycard sent me a PM about his friend Edson who has what I'm looking for. Told him to pound sand...

This scan is prevalent all over forums and Facebook groups. Thankfully they are not savvy enough to know what they're trying to scam you of and go right off the want ad. I've had a few PM's like these over the years and thankfully they are easy to spot... I did have one that took PP G&S and didn't ship anything... Took a week to get my money back...

It has the "feel" of an AI produced image.
