The Kane has an obvious touch, but the others have always been 8/9s. Unless a card has to be perfect to be an 8 and getting a 10 is just dice roll.
I have the Price in hand, it is perfectly centred and has no corner issues
Take a look at the Clemente above, that is a 7, you feel these present similar?
Again, not suggesting there are tens but if they are 7s I have no idea what a 9 is anymore.
Anyways, doesn’t really matter, I knew what I was getting in to and shouldn’t have submitted, and won’t again. Its clearly a lottery now and I’m not a gambler.
It's always a gamble. +/-1 can be expected.
And comparing to past grades will drive you crazy. (I would have expected a 6 with that Clemente)
The Backstrom has an indent in the upper right corner, so I can't say a 9 is warranted.
And the back of the Teows upper right prevents it from a 9 also. (Just my opinions of course)

To be clear I wasn’t knocking the Clemente, simply believe that a card shouldn’t have to be perfect to get an 8 or 9. A 7 can have multiple issues - if you have to zoom way in to find a small fault, it’s probably better then a 7, or what is the point of the 8/9 grades?
Agree 100%. What are we doing if a card has to be perfect to get an 8 or 9?
That flaw on each knock them down that far? Crazy. Those are still beautiful cards that are nice enough (even with those) to be graded higher.

I have not. I’ll probably do it if I get the opportunity but I’m not itching to drop $20k to get that done. I mean. I am but I’ve been putting my fun money into other areas.

Understandable. I just recalled you mentioning it on your to do list some time ago, and wondered if perhaps I missed the post where you had gotten it done.

The autograph market has gotten significantly tougher and more competitive over the past 5 years - in the last year it seems that the number of people trying to get cards into private signings has tripled. One of them, Koufax, has already been an infrequent and expensive 'get' and now it's getting crazy. For his '55 RC there's like 6 spots and the auto is $4750 and inscriptions are $1750 each and it keeps going up and up and up and up and up... I just did a Pujols signing and it was $575 - just auto... no inscriptions.
When Rickey died I had these out at a dealer for signing.
I do probably need to get working on the Bo. It’s a bit of a long shot anyways. It’s just feeling a lot like the 2000s to 2010s where we lost a lot of guys here with the 70s and 80s. I had cards out for Rose - ones I would cherish! Cards out for Parker. Cards out for Sandberg.

I also agree with both of you. The difference between a 2 and a 3 is measured in miles and the distance between a 9 and a 10 requires a caliper.
That’s what’s changed the most and I assume it’s a reflection of the result of modern quality from the pack. When everything is a 10 you need 3 levels of 10.

Yep!
I've noticed that old school 1,2,3,4,5 and usually 6 are still the same grade BUT old school 7,8,9,10 are now 1-4 grades lower... In the past 6 months I've started to see same from SGC as well.
Anyone else think (or agree) the same or it''s just me?

I saw blowout offering 5k for the ball and thought that was funny. Wonder what it would auction for..
Now you just need to get that signed hahaha!!! Good luck with that!!!
These didn’t turn out as swell. They weren’t world-beaters. These came from a bunch of 82T traded sets I purchased from BBCE. I suspect they were searched but I thought they were in the 7-8 range. Who cares right. They look good.
Here’s the other side of the argument about PSA’s more strict standards. I’ve been upgrading my 1950 bowman set, which is mostly PSA 8s, with much better looking PSA 4-6 and selling off the PSA 8s for 3x the replacement price.

Thats fair Ron, thanks. Guess the Price
hurts the most, I PC him, its an important card, and the nicest of the bunch.
Maybe I don’t have an eye for grading-will stick to buying graded cards.

Sorry to disrupt the grading debate, but here's a nice raw beauty for those who still ascribe to their existence.
For 71s I’ve been seeing 8s and 9s coming back as 6s and 7s.
Still nice to have them slabbed. Here are some new additions.
That Palmer is a beauty.
Though my 82s don’t do much better. I pulled these all myself. Thought the bottom one could get a 10.
Here’s a good then and now.
This was a 7 and is now a…
This one is now a 7 and was a …?

PSA 8 to PSA 8/10
SGC 7 to PSA 7/10
I remember Yount’s catch to end the game for Nieves’ no hitter against the Orioles. I was a wee lad. Ripken on first and Murray at the plate.
This is the first 8/10 I’ve got on a 75 Yount.

Those Ripken are awesome. I’m the guy that doesn’t really care about the card’s grade when it’s autographed. I just want a clean sig.
I’m hoarding quite a few FASC 82 traders myself…
