So I bought a raw 1950 proof half-dollar. GTP (guess the price) from lousy iPhone pics?

If it helps any, the obverse is close to cameo, while the reverse appears fully cameo to my eye.

CoinFacts price is $525 for a slabbed 65.
You paid around $400?
Doesn't look like a cameo at all.
Looks to be approximately PR63 quality, so hopefully around $200.
Coin Photography
The photo is not high quality, but it does show that the coin may have mirrored fields and frosted devices. Post better pictures of the coin if you can that shows the appearance of the coin under incandescent or halogen lighting.
In any event the photo shows what appear to be numerous hairlines on the obverse. If numerous hairlines are present on the coin then it will likely not grade higher than a PF64.

Interesting picture showing hairlines on obverse. There is quite a bit of frost on peripheral letters.
Did you see it in person before purchase? a 63CAM still has good value
I could see spending $300, maybe $350 on a raw coin.
I paid $260! Both the seller and I graded it PR-63 "near cameo".
The one in my not-certified set is more like PR-64++ but has virtually no cameo whatsoever. It's possible I'll trade with this one.

Late to the party but after the second set of images I see the contrast, albeit not enough for a graded designator, and I like it as about a 63/4 I think (disclaimer that grading Proofs from images is near impossible).
That being the case, you didn't overpay at all I don't think.
