I'm sure Saban is sitting wherever he's sitting and wondering two things: How is his good buddy Bill Belichick coaching in the NCAA and he's retired, how can he get back to Alabama and save the program.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
Saban has no interest in coaching anymore. Hes probably thinking about his next fishing trip or vacation and loving that he works a couple hours a week making millions. He could have had that Bama job for life and just didnt want to spend the rest of his life putting in the hours it takes to be a college coach now.
Bama fans hope hell come back but he wont. Bills only coaching because of his GF whose trying to trademark the term gold digger. Hes going to be a disaster at UNC. Hes got a really really soft schedule this year with Clemson being the first real test in weak 5. TCU is expected to be an average team a best for the game tomorrow
Been waiting for the Poll to come out armed with the realization that these don't really carry the importance of years past. In today's NCAA playoff world it's almost like the High School voting for prom queen, little more than a popularity contest. So it is with amusement that I see some of the early Week 2 listings from the off-beat pollsters. They seem to carry the SEC bias to ridiculous levels and use convoluted logic and computer reasoning to achieve silly results. My favorite so far is the one which had previous Number 9 LSU ranked in the top spot. Another had recently defeated Texas remaining atop the poll ahead of Number 2 Georgia. When I saw that I quit looking!!
I hadn't posted the thought earlier in the thread, but I have always presumed the previous year's Champion should remain as the Number 1 until they are defeated. Currently I will add to that: the previous years playoff teams and bracket winners are also due consideration until they prove they are unworthy by losing, especially to an inferior, and God forbid, unranked team. An example of this is that some of those offbeat polls have teams like Alabama, LSU and Clemson ahead of Penn State who played in last year's semi-final game. Clemson lost in the 1st round, the other's couldn't even make the expanded playoff.
But I expect this. The Finebaum wannabe's somehow lose objectivity and get lost somewhere between preaching to the choir and whistling past the graveyard. So I will wait for the AP Poll to come out but I will give my Top 10 prediction, not based on any bias but only the performance on the field.
1-2 --- Penn State or Ohio State. If the voters give deference to the opponent it will be OSU, if the scores are more important it'll be Penn State at the top.
3 --- Georgia.
4 --- Oregon.
5 --- LSU.
6 --- Notre Dame.
7 ---Texas.
8 --- Illinois.
9 --- Clemson.
10--- Arizona State.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
Guaranteed those off pollsters will not be right. OSU will be 1 and LSU will be ahead of Oregon who played no one if the polls are actually based on what happened. Oregon did nothing to move up playing a nobody
1 lost to 3 theyre staying top 5. LSU and Clemson at best will flip positions. Illinois played a no one they arent jumping 4 spots neither is Oregon for playing no one.
ND and Miami havent even played which just shows how dumb of a list it is
I'm a casual NCAA football watcher - focusing mainly on UGA and U of MN.
So for me to watch the majority of the TX/OSU game yesterday was a bit of a stretch.
I just don't understand how Texas is the #1 team with a Heisman favorite with such a thin resume'.
Those that watch a lot more than me, what happened to TX's offense:
A great defense
A poor offensive game called by Sarkasian
Arch Manning isn't that good
While it may be a combo, I think Manning is underwhelming. Overhype & who in the big media is going to rip into him with the Manning Brothers employed by ESPN/Disney?

Manning was only a Heisman favorite because of his last name and the talent around him.
The TX offense went to crap simply because Manning was off target on almost 40 percent of his passes and the coaching staff didnt trust him and he proved why they dont.
Eli is over hyped too because of the last name of every one thinking theyre another Peyton and they arent. But the Manning QB award watch list as bad as it was had like 20 qbs on it and they left Archie off the list.
Only a complete idiot would vote Penn State over Ohio State for #1. To be the champs, you have to beat the champs. Last time Penn State beat Ohio State - 2016.
Convicts beat the Catholics last night. Sorry Notre Dame.

Miami looked ok, Carson Beck surprised me a little
I find it weird that Notre Dame doesn't give Love more carries,he is a stud
Beck is very good. Part of his struggles last year were that GA was one of the leaders in dropped passes. As good as they were at every position they were lacking at WR.
For Love he may not be 100 percent from the injury last year but Ive never really been impressed by Freeman anyways, they cant even get 11 guys on the field for a final play of the game against OSU.
They probably were scared of Miamis D line which they should have been, but they did spend a lot of the game down two scores where they wanted to pass it
Further proof that it was Tom Brady and not Bill Belichick. In retrospect, Belichick probably owes his eventual entrance to the NFL HOF to that hit by Mo Lewis on Drew Bledsoe. Perhaps it would be fitting if Lewis were the one to introduce him.

And LSU "squeaked" by an over-ranked Clemson., but your SEC bias is clear.

That woulda been a handsome parlay 😅
btw Paul Finebaum picked UNC over TCU
can someone please take the mic away from that guy
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
Didnt know anyone even paid attention to him.
But speaking of TCU UNC how in the world did Lopez win the job over Johnson
Neither are great but if Johnson is healthy enough to play which he clearly is hes much better than Lopez
