Nice DDO…..ear doubling is strong on this one. I bought the 83 DDR and 84 DDO from one of the original discoverers of those two error coins… (at least he was a dealer and claimed he was one of the finders. 😉)

The 1948 Ben Franklin Half Dollar reverse design was taken from the 1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar.

PCGS gave it an MS66+. It is not an FS because of the post-strike impact at the left side of the steps. I don’t get the rationale - if this is a strike designation it should only be about the strike, not about some random impact that happened later.

Thanks @Ronsanderson It's a great looking coin. I was comparing it to a 67 FS I recently had graded.

LOL, It's a WWII commemorative so it has the dates of the war but the coin was minted in my birth year, 1975.

I paid way too much for this many years ago. Franklin Half Dollars were has hot as firecrackers in the early 1980s.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

A little OT for a second. Talking about age and our hobby.. Made me think of doing an AI search. 🤣 🤣 For some reason, I'm thinking the vast majority of us are all in the same boat. 🤣

    AI Overview:
While specific hobbies vary widely by individual, some activities often stereo-typically associated with older white men include golf, coin collecting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and classic car restoration. It is important to note that these are broad generalizations and do not reflect the diverse interests of all older white men.
