Cud?

PppPpp Posts: 541 ✭✭✭✭✭

I picked up this set of thin and thick 1925 Norse American Medals through a trade.
I noticed, what appears to me, a cud at the 3 o’clock position on the obverse.

Is this a cud? If yes, would the value increase if I sent it back in and paid for mint error designation?

If not a cud then any idea what it could be?

Looks like a line of residue from storage with an object on top of the coin, or vice versa

Note the thick medal holder is also broken on the bottom.

Certainly not a cud, a cud would be raised. it looks like some sort of stain.

To me it looks like there was once a rectangular price sticker (with a rounded corner) stuck there.

Thank you for the comments. Originally I thought it was some mark on the coin until I rotated it then the mark looked a little raised. Unfortunately, I am having trouble getting a good picture.

Granted this doesn't look like any of the cuds I have on other coins but you never know thats why I asked.

Looks more like a cud in that photo.

I messed with your photo a little - taking out glare & leveling the color resolution. Might help.

Wouldn't NGC put 'error" on the label?

    bob :)
I thought it was a stain but the B&W photo makes me rethink it.

Actually, "you never know" is the exact opposite of the truth. Our hosts exist because it is so certain that you DO know that it's possible for them to base a business on that certainty.

    1. Name at least two distinguishing characteristics that are guaranteed to be present on any cud.
    2. Observe the none of those characteristics are present on this medal.
    3. Conclude that this isn't a cud.

Yes, they would. (Now you can't use that as one of the distinguishing characteristics to list above.)
