Scam warning, email from coin contacts asking for help with gift cards.

I got a very unusual (but almost plausible) email a few minutes ago from a fellow collector and high ranked registry participant asking me to help him buy an “Amazon or Uber eats gift card.”

I am sure his account is hacked or spoofed so I wanted to share this new phishing scam as a warning.

IslandBob (not a member here) may have been hacked. If you know him, be wary of emails. Be wary of any emails from friends or acquaintances asking for gift cards.

That's a very old scam that has been around for years. My favorite is when my "boss" wanted me to pick up some gift cards for him. Lol. Like that's ever going to happen.

If you know someone this has happened to and have their phone number, it would be nice to call them in case they’re not already aware that their email account has been hacked.

Oh yes, I texted the real person right away (although super late in his time zone) and got a reply at 4am saying it was not him.
I also challenged the email scammer right away who claimed no access to a phone at the time and “not hacked” 🤣

Anything having to do with gift cards is a MAJOR RED FLAG!

Truth be told, any request that seems even a bit odd should be confirmed, if a friend, simply send him/her a text or WhatsApp message asking to confirm if they reached out for help.
Please don't be gullible, these crooks are really good at this.
I have had this "request" 3-4 times over 10 years now, twice from friends but but not close, both asked for help being there wallet was stolen, and all ID gone, are stuck overseas, and asking for a wire of $1000 (the other maybe $500, I forgot), so they can make it back to the States etc.
