I never once went for Morgan's and VAMS. Not as much Peace, but Morgan.
Capped Bust Halves and Overtons. I hear these are a good starting point?

Any specific vams or overtons to go for on my hunt?

    vam's and overton numbers are unique to the date/mint

    choosing a vam for a specific date-mm is choosing a subset of the mintage

    try looking at the 50 or 100 lists on vamworld.com

    @CoinShop - I would recommend starting with my favorite Morgan Dollar Variety the
    1880-CC (80/79) VAM-4 Overdate, with Reverse of 1878

    It is a bad piece of luck but the free reference site for Overton numbers still seems to be down. Perhaps someone who has it saved to their computer will be able to help you. good luck. james

    If you really want to fall into the rabbit hole that is Capped Bust Half Dollars and the world of Overton numbers, you have to have the definitive work;

    Early Half Dollar Die Varieties, 1794-1836 by Al C. Overton

    The 3rd through 5th editions will work.

    If, after studying that, the fever really starts to take hold, I would also recommend;

    Bust Half Fever, 1807-1836 by Edgar E. Souders

    The 2nd Edition is preferred.

    Beyond that, after digesting hundreds (thousands) of threads, images and articles ... and asking lots and lots of questions ... if you still feel like you are slipping into the abyss ...

    ... may God have mercy on your soul.

    Bust half fever is incurable. You catch it once and it will follow you to the grave. No running, no hiding.

    I think the trifecta is, Gold, VAMs, Overtons. If you master those three and build a nice colletion, you win life. :)
