Maybe the Red Sox did't need to pick up a quality starter to back up Crotchet as Giolito seems to be doing that job now. He doesn't like to get up in the morning but if he continues to pitch like that maybe he needs to start doing so as he sure looked good yesterday.

What potentially could happen is we might fall just short of a playoff chance or a playoff win and look back at "If only we made a deal"
With the winning that this team has been doing John Henry is hanging them out to dry in my opinion
John Henry has too many irons in the fire and needs to sell some of them and concentrate on the others. It does not do any of the teams any good if they are not furnished with enough capital to be the best franchise in that particular sport.

Sounds like all the teams wanted Jarren Duran.
They would have gratefully accepted any of the other your top players the sox have right now but the sox threw them their garbage instead. There was really not much out there for the Red Sox to grab anyway and they made the right moves in doing practically nothing! Just look at the Devers trade and what that could mean for the sox going forward. They removed a cancer from their organization and got some money back to give to these young studs and Bregman!

That's what is fans do, that's nothing new
I was hoping they moved Duran, I think he is pretty overrated
I think you will see Duran moved over the winter as they have too many outfield studs waiting in the wings to come aboard! He will be highly sought after by teams and will draw most of the attention this winter!
I listened to 1 inning of that all women broadcasting crew and I had to turn the Chanel over to the Royals broadcast. Those 2 women never shut up from the time they started until I changed the channel. I really dont like oBrien but he is better than what was on there tonight. The Red Sox won and the Yankees continue their losing streak.
I know there aren't many Red Sox fans on here but you missed a great game last night if you were not tuned in except for the announcing crew that were just trying to make an expression for the ladies. Any of you doubters out there ready to jump on the bandwagon yet? The MLB package is cheap for the rest of the season!
I don't like constant chatter from an announcer of a baseball game. They seemed to be very knowledgeable of the game but were just trying too hard to impress everybody! I guess I just liked Orsillo, Eck and Remy's style of broadcasting best!
I’m just joking around tommy. I read your first post and thought… “isn’t that what the announcers do? Talk the whole time…”. Anyways. I’ve been following the Red Sox and they’ve been red hot. Fun team to watch.

I followed the game on line, MLB.com .

I agree about the women announcers, they never seem to take a break. The Orsillo/Eck/Remy days were the best, unless you go way, way back to Curt Gowdy. If they would just take a few seconds to just listen to crowd noise, it would be better than them having a gab fest.
As for John Henry...we really don't know and never will know what goes on behind the scenes. I doubt he needs to sell any assets to pour money into the Red Sox, acquisitions just need to play better. The Red Sox will always be somebody's cash cow
It was good to see them lock up Anthony for 8 years, maybe they've learned their lesson about letting former fan favorites and excellent players go...Devers being the exception. I think Devers thought too much of his skill set, I'm glad he's gone. I predict Jarren Duran will be gone as Anthony now sparkles in the outfield. I also predict that Bregman will opt out and go for more money elsewhere, I guess $120m for 6 months of playing baseball doesn't quite cut it. But, to be fair, who among us wouldn't go for more money if its offered?
Cora (the cheater) inserted his foot into his mouth claiming LIam Hendriks wouldn't pitch again this year. Hendriks took umbrage, talked to the cheater and he had to walk it back. Can we send him to single A??
I agree with most everything you said but hope you are wrong about Bregman as he has a lot to do with these rookies being as good as they are. he constantly talks to them and shows them the right way to play the game and is there for them when they screw up. Duran will be used to pick up a young stud of a pitcher while he is still a hot commodity. They still have a stud outfielder coming up that will need major league placement to replace Duran. They cant keep them all!
He is a great player but the Red Sox have to put 24 other players on the field and someone has to go to get another stud pitcher to go with Crotchet and to get a good pitcher you have to give something good back to the other team.
Another stud pitcher has shown up and the Red Sox win again. Blue Jays, Yankees, and Rays all lose. Yankees are creaping toward the cellar even with Judge back from injury!

I know the other day the Yanks and Jays won and the Sox lost.
The Red Sox just have to keep on winning every series and they will be OK. They have a tough stretch right now but they will just have to bear down and we shall see if they have enough to make a run at it.
Ok we didn't lose any ground last night so the sox need to forget about that loss as a tough lesson learned. They are a young team and can move on from it.
This household are Red Sox fans, if it is of any interest to the thread. Years ago we finally made the trek to Fenway. Follow this thread as well. As the old phrase stated from Channel 38 "Keep your Sox on".
Successful transactions:Tookybandit. "Everyone is equal, some are more equal than others".
May was a certain surprise with his latest start for the Sox tonight. Maybe the Sox saw something he was doing that others did not see and he sure earned that win. Hopefully he has more of that stuff going forward as we need another starter like he showed tonight against a strong team like the Astros.
If they could avoid the slumps they'd be in first place with a cushion.
Between Toronto and the Mariners, the Sox need to play each game like its a game 5 wildcard or game 7 of the playoffs.
Can't make any ground when the teams ahead continue to win... Only 41 games to go.
One day good, one day bad, does not win a championship! The season is 3/4 over and though the Red Sox have shown they have the hardware for the job they do not have the software to get it done. They need 2 more reliable starting pitchers to be contenders and probably will not spend to get them this winter as the price of a good pitcher is way more than current management is willing to spend!
Wanna guess how much Green Monster tix are on Sept 18, Orioles row 3?
A- $1695 each
B- $4759 each
C- $2459 each
D- $2025 each
Without searching, make your best guess. The winner gets an all expenses paid ride with Perkdog on the Mount Washington boat on lake Winnipesaukee, NH. He'll even toss in a box of fried clams, beer included. Lobstahs are on you.
Well, the tix were for AUGUST 18, not Sept 18th...and they've been sold!! And I failed to tell you they were for two tix.
The price shown was B $4,759!!! This would have made the price per ticket to see the Orioles on Aug 18th on the Monster, row 3 $2,379.50!!!
Sorry for the date and two tix, not singles.
I've just gone over 5k posts, I'll catch Perkdog in no time.
Based solely on the structure of the choices I believe the answer is Option C. I believe Option D is a plausible distractor. Option B could be reasonable, but given it's position I think we can ignore it and also rule out Option A leaving the real decision between Options C and D. But then, given the question itself and where the questioner is leading us (it's expensive) we should choose the larger of the two remaining options.

Thats an insane price for a series against the Os with how they fell off a cliff this year
People must be out of their minds to buy those tickets at those prices. The last time I went to a game was just after I got out of the Marine Corp in 1960 and it cost almost as much to park as to get into the park. I dont remember exactly but I know it was only about $5.00 for the ticket. I guess buying the MLB package is not such a bad deal after all. It's no wonder John Henry doesn't want to sell the team!
Theres not a single game in August that should command those prices unless youre in a box with all the free food and drinks. Thats just crazy people are willing to do that.

Whatever it is it's way too much. People that pay that should have their heads examined.Row 3 is probably $2495/ You see they kids there with their parents so it 2or 3 times that. They got you by the gonads too because I doubt if its on local tv if you want to see the game. MLB package looks better and better so it wont be long before they charge you for every game.
Now with 37 games to go, the window of opportunity is slowly closing. Leading 3-1 into the 8th inning last night, only to lose the game 5-3. The bullpen (overpaid hacks) choked up with 3 losers blowing the lead.
Lets not overlook that the Orioles just hammered Houston 12-0 yesterday...they ain't dead and they're in Fenway tonight. The Sox remain 5 games out, and the Yankees are nipping at their heels.
As for the baseball package, you have to be really, really into baseball to pay for that. I prefer to watch the highlights in the morning baseball channel, it eliminates the boring in between stuff.
I still stand firm...the fat lady and Dandy Don haven't sung yet, but they are warming up.

Where do I begin??? I didn't watch the game last night, BUT, was able to watch all the highlights for about 12 minutes via YouTube, which BTW is F R E E. So, for those of you who don't watch each and every minute of the game, but want to see the key moments, not just snips, just go on YouTube, and talk to the search mic at the top. I just said "Red Sox game last night" and up it came, and there was at least one other.
The Sox have now lost 8 of 12 and just got punked by the lowly Orioles, who are locked into last place in the AL East being 14.5 back. Having scored ZERO RUNS after having the bases loaded in the 8th and 10th innings, says a TON about the team. Inability to close the deal.
I expected to see Masa choke, and he did...being paid $18.6m, is beyond laughable. He, BTW signed on short term contract, and he is leaving the team at end of season...if I read the post correctly. The flowery posts about Red Sox management make him sound like he won a WS for the team. Always so much noise and BS to me.
With Eaton at 3rd base, Anthony hits to center field...
Now comes the stoic Alex Cora (the cheater), who because of some metric nonsense telling him and his staff that the Os outfielder has a "strong arm", they decide to leave the WINNING RUN at 3rd base, when it appears with some basic hustle he could have scored. Yet another bozo decision by the overpaid, unemotional team leader. Why not take a shot at winning the game, worst that could happen is that the game stays tied? Could possibly be only 4 back, but noooo, no guts leads to 6 back, quiet a hill to climb at this stage of the season.
I thought Aroldis Chapman's staring down to home plate for several seconds after he struck out the side, was beyond bush league. No respect for the opposition. Never liked him when with the Yankees and like him less now.
I still don't get how Craig Breslow, the Chief Baseball Officer, who had ZERO, was selected to this position. He was a pitcher for his MLB career, doesn't he see the weakness of the bullpen???? He combined with the cheater, make an odd mix to me.
The Red Sox need an experienced manager, a Dick Williams type, one who can bring the best out of the team players, not someone who almost never shows emotion, rarely smiles or actively cheers on players, one who knows the game and has a baseball instinct which comes out with tough decisions in critical situations. NOT a manager who relies on saber metrics, statistics and percentiles to make decisions, like leaving Eaton at 3rd, when taking a realistic chance to score and win the game.
The Sox are now 6 games back...and guess what??? They now face the Yankees for 4 games in the Bronx. The team appears to be not in high spirits and appear deflated to me. The Yankees have won 4 in a row and closing on Toronto...If the Red Sox fall much further, the season is indeed OVER. Even Dave O'Brien, the Red Sox perennial announcer said at the end...they stink right now
OK. its over this year and possibly for years to come!
John Henry will not step up to the plate and do what's necessary to make them a winner!
Fans that want to see baseball do not just stay away from the ball park.
People like me continue to buy the MLB package so he is fat and happy with money rolling in.
Last night was the last straw for me. That was the worst decision making I have ever seen.
I will not be getting the baseball package next year or direct TV either.
Cora and his inept crew are idiots along with all of the management team.
Weak excuses were made for not improving the team when they could have at trade deadline.
Now they sign a worn out 1st baseman who cant hit and Yankees pick up what they need to win.
I have sold all my coins so will be leaving this forum.
I will miss all and all the guys and gals here.
Whoa cowboy!
Take a deep breath, exhale, take a deep breath, exhale...ok, now...
No need to self ghost, it wouldn't be the same here without you to tweak now and then. I think last night's game was the coup de gras and total demoralizer for the team and many fans. No need to dissect it further, it is what it is.
I saw the major parts of the game with a 12 minute YouTube video...FREE. So save the $$, get another hobby and dump the package. If you can, get out of the house and take a drive.
Stick around Steve...never know, a miracle could happen, and at this point I think that's what it's gonna take.
The only thing management sees is a sold out stadium bringing in multi millions or dollars every night. Nothing will change what is going on other than a boycott of Fenway park that makes them realize its time to sell the team or to spend the money to make the team great like what they did when they 1st bought it. I am going to look for another team to root for next year, I went to my first game in 1947 with my father and it was at Braves field in Boston so maybe I will follow them next year just to honor my father as he liked them.

I recommend the Padres.
