They have announced that their 3rd baseman is Bregman and their DH is Devers so somebody stepped up to the plate and made a decision!

Devers had a big goose egg today but at least we did not have any errors at 3rd base.
Great game to have watched and Abreu did not disappoint with 2 homers and a single!

Nice W for the opening game yesterday

So what thread are we going to post Red Sox stuff in?

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

Why don't you or Al start one and we will all go along with it!
There are not too many of us here and I have not brought the Red Sox much success in the past.

I am glad Bregman is playing 3b. would have been foolish to have a GG 3baseman moved to another position just to keep Devers happy.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Just edit the title to this thread and we got it right here

Devers was just another mistake the Red Sox created along the way. He has been given one more chance to prove himself or he will be part of their past. He needs to grow up and do what management wants him to do!

Devers struck out four more times Friday and is now 0-for-8 with seven strikeouts; he has swung and missed 14 times over two days.

Let the attitude begin. Time will tell, but 0-8 could be sending a message. More importantly, he whiffed with the bases loaded, a mere single wouldh've scored at least 2 runs and closing the 4-1 gap. To be fair, Bregman also flamed out with the bases loaded, he did get a hit. The game was always within reach, but going 3-11 with RISP and 8 LOBs, doesn't speak well of the effort. No, I don't have the baseball package, but catch the recap highlights on MLB in the AM.

Local Boston writer's claim Cora "made the hard decision" to announce Devers as the 2025 team DH. So obvious from the moment they got Bregman. Duh!!

There's no need to begin a new thread, right here is good enough. I tend to look at more of the lack of performance of the team and not so much rah, rah, no matter what. Not to be negative when I post, but they are all paid an exceptional amount of $$ to perform, and when they perform poorly, or choke a game, I acknowledge those shortcomings. Abreu is dialed in, but I think there's still some smoke in the clubhouse that hopefully gets cleared up and the team begins to play as a team.

Cora is supposed to be the leader of this group of men, however, I think he's waaaay over his skis and doesn't know how to kick a$$ tactfully, or instill esprit de corps. I think there is too much crap floating around within not only the clubhouse, but at the managerial level as well.

I remain and always will be a part of Red Sox Nation. I sincerely hope the team excels, but unless leadership finds a way to guide this team to a winning mindset, and dump the noise, I think it will be another long season.

    They need to trade Devers

I know it's only game 2 but something is going on with him

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

He needs a severe attitude adjustment and it will not happen in a Red Sox clubhouse I'm afraid.

Nothing at all to say when the above picture says it all!

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,388 ✭✭✭✭✭

Eh I would say the same thing if they were smashing 10 runs a game and won the first 4 or 5

    It's EARLY

Nothing that happens in the first week of baseball is a precursor of how the season is going to go.

Do I like the Sox chances?. Hell no but again it's way too early for any positive or negative talk. based on stats through 4 games or so

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭✭✭

They've lost 4 in a row and are now 1-5. While the season is obviously early, it appears to me there are issues that need to be addressed somehow. Cora is simply not the guy to instill what is needed with this team.

I see a long season ahead. I think I'll take a hiatus for a while, I just really have little to contribute or positive to say about the team. No use in pouring salt on the wound(s).

Devers should be benched, give the kid a mental. health break and keep him on the bench until. he begs to get back in the lineup

That would be my first move if I was Cora

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

I'd just say Devers should try the new bats but it would do no good as he still has to hit the ball for them to work!

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,597 ✭✭✭✭✭

Devers has been just terrible. needs a day or two off.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Those bats are getting way to much hype and credit. Every team has been explosive offensively and very few players are using them. Stanton used one all of last year so its not really new either for some reason the media just noticed them. If you make contact right now the ball is going to go a very long way

Sox have signed both Campbellll and Crocket to long term deals which are good signs.

  • Basebal21Basebal21 Posts: 3,971 ✭✭✭✭✭

I dont like Crocket deal at all. As always good for him for getting paid but they just gave a lot of money to a guy that has throw over 55 innings once in 4 seasons and never over 150 innings as a starter. Already missed a year for TJ as well.

The Campbell one is a good gamble. Even if hes a bust its not much money and they could end up with a real good deal on that one

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

I'm just glad to see them come together as a team and win some games. Time will tell if management made the right moves last winter or not but John Henry is at least giving up some of his money to give it a shot! Go Sox!

Is anybody but me watching the Red Sox? Some great baseball!

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,388 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sox are getting fun right now!

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well, coming out of my hiatus, I have to say hats off to the Red Sox!! Soon to be 5 in a row and the team has really come together to put up some impressive #s. All cylinders in high blower, hope they can keep it up!! I'm into the game in the 7th inning. Devers has woken up, and Bregman appears to be the perfect fit at 3rd.

We've been watching the "1923" series on Paramount+ and tonight was the final episode. Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are superb in this turn of the century saga about life in Montana. All I can say is its one of, if not THEE best series about life in the West early in the 1900s...check it out!!! Caveat!!!, **NOT for children to watch, or with your mom!!!

Devers will grow into loving the DH role as it will take the strain off his body from playing 3rd base and the wall will make Bregman a hero as his swing is perfect for it. Abreau has an arm like a cannon and base runners will learn not to take the extra base. My only question for the Sox is where are you going to play some of those studs you have waiting in the minors?

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

And quickly has run into a wall. They can't hit their way out of a paper bag right now!

Odd thing last night...so I'm cruising through my favorite channels and see Toronto/Red Sox on channel 105 (I have Directv) and its a 4k channel. I click on 105 and see the game in progress, so far so good. I continue to scroll and see the Philies/Braves game on a local Atlanta channel, this NEVER happens because of the proximity to the stadium or some other silly rule they have about local viewers not being able to see home games...oddly, they're broadcast on channel 649, no restrictions home or away.

Well, we had been watching a movie and I hate commercials so I tend to surf when they come on, thus the events explained above. We finish the movie and I got back to watch the Sox game from Fenway. Now comes a notification that (paraphrasing)
"the owner of this channel has restricted this broadcast" WTF???? Now, both the Red Sox game and the Braves games have disappeared after having been broadcasting them for 6 innings!! CRAZY!!

As for the Sox, I'd say the weather had a little to do with the poor performance, I think it was 40 when they began. I watched it snow a few days ago in Detroit, makes no sense to me. However, there is really little excuse for having 11 RISP and strand them, especially when the opponent is also struggling. Bregman gets the double in the 1st inning at that's it?

Cora cried to management about changing the schedule some how, but they turned him down. I just don't think I'll ever warm up to this guy, something about him, no spark, no anything.

That's about it, no need to pile on, it is what it is, but dropping 3 in a row, kinda kills the 4 in a row buzz.

Somebodey forgot to tell the Red Sox tonight that the White Sox suck this year again! Down 6-0, 5th B)

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

That was probably the worst Red Sox game I have seen in years tonight.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

When the manager changes locations in the dugout to correct what is happening maybe he should try sitting at home and getting somebody else in his place in the dugout!

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,543 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well he better find some place - White Sox win again today 3 - 2.

pretty rough showing last night. Too bad they couldnt have Crochet pitch every game.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

As bad as the Red Sox are they are only 2 games out right now. No team seems to want to run away with it. Even Baltimore is behind the Sox. Pitching is the name of the game so hopefully the Sox can get some of their pitchers back on line quickly!

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,597 ✭✭✭✭✭

they should have 2 starters coming back very soon.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

I loved last nights game. maybe that will give them some momentum with a replay of the White Sox this weekend!

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

If Mayor is such a good player then let him learn another position so he can break onto the scene in the majors. First base comes to mind as we need help there NOW.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭✭

Well here comes Bello off the IL. I hope he brings his A game with him even if it's only for 4 or 5 innings!

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,388 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well the Yankees certainly are not looking like a powerhouse, not are the O's

  • Steven59Steven59 Posts: 9,543 ✭✭✭✭✭

Cleveland did The Sox a favor winning the Yanks series 2-1 but now the Sox come to Cleveland - should be interesting.

The steal of home was fun to watch.
This is the kind of thing that can really light a fire under a team.
The Sox now have most of their pitching back which is another good thing.
    Bello goes today at 1:45.
