What are you calling a milk spot? That thing above the eagles head?
I suppose it could be a scratch but it looks to me like just a sliver of plastic or possibly lint.
Yes. Looks like lint. But there may also be something across from the eagle that looks like haze, although that looks like fingerprints on the capsule.
This is why the Mint should charge a restocking fee.
Really? How much leverage over the customer/taxpayer do you want the gov to have?
As a taxpayer, I don't want the Mint to be running a holding company for free speculation. The standard is not "70 or return".
You can't turn Mint employees into MS70 graders. The return policy has to be all or nothing.
If a coin is defective that left thr Mint then the customer is entitled to a full refund.

He has every right to return it! It's not unreasonable to return a coin with a clearly visible whitish patch that could worsen over time. Restocking fee? Really? With the premiums the Mint charges a person has every right to expect absolute top quality material.

But the standard isn't and shouldn't be "70". And retailers are entitled to charge restocking fees to prevent abuse.

69 is to quality. Would it be okay for me to order 10, keep the 6 70s and return the 4 69s? Would it be okay for me to buy one, see if a secondary market develops and then cancel if it doesn't? All at taxpayer expense, of course.

You must have a defective merch return policy that is full refund.
When you have a customer who returns or cancels an unreasonable amount you stop selling him.

I don't consider 69s to be defective. But we can agree to disagree
For me, when sold as a proof coin it should not have naked eye visible milk spots or large deep scratches. Dont expect every one to be a 70, but should have some quality control and return allowance for one coin if it has clear visible flaws. Don’t know how much abuse can occur if you are limited to only ordering one coin.

I bet if you had a mint representative of any level they would indicate that all of their products are defect free and that if they are they would ask you to return it because they want you to be satisfied.

Ho hum...
Mine is currently out touring the country. West Point to Dallas to Indianapolis and possibly tomorrow delivered to The Commonwealth. I sure hope this little GEM is packaged tight in that capsule. Thats a lot of traveling for a MS70. THKS!
Mine shipped in July with delivery date of 2 Aug. It's been in my area (middle America) twice now. Currently making its way thru the Carolina's. Hope the weather is nice.
Talk about a "slow boat to China" haha My nephew, the former Coast Guard guy lives in N Carolina !

Are replacements even available???
Never. They process returns and allow you to re-buy. They don't actually do exchanges. If you see them available on the website, then you can buy another one. Otherwise, no.
Walmart has them (Via Bullion Exchange) Power to the People. SMPR!!!
Ready for the crown JeWeL! Bring it!!
THKS!
not even an on sale date yet
that is a pre-pre-sale
Yes, to clarify the Army is on sale currently at Walmart. I'm all jacked up, bring on my beloved Corps which is not on sale yet but I can hardly stand it. Hope to have the Trifecta in hand come Veterans Day. RGDS!

Because Advance Release have been all over TV for the past week. They are out, and were available for sale, not pre-sale, the second the Mint started shipping to the general public. As with every other Advance Release.
I’m curious if you guys think collecting all three issues as a set might offer more value. I was in the Navy, so that’s my favorite, but I’m acquiring all three thinking a set might stir up some interest (and collector value).

No. They already have plenty of interest and collector value. And, with 100K of each, they are readily available in quantity. No reason to think 3 packaged together will ever be worth more than each individually.
If the Mint had chosen to hold some back to sell in special packaging, then sure, just like what happens with anything else they sell in a limited edition package. But that didn't happen here. So no set that anyone puts together after the fact will be any more special than each individual coin is.

There is a more than reasonable chance that as a three coin anniversary set, demand will stay elevated. So in that sense the values will stay firm because of what they represent and as members of the armed services will find them collectible as well.
I got mine this week. Both me and my buddy received 2 boxes. Same tracking number and everything. We both only ordered one each. Has this happened to anyone else?

I know someone who had the same experience but with the gold flowing hair. If you value your account/address, I'd be proactive and contact the Mint.
Interesting, I'd venture to guess that theyd only care about expensive gold coins.
But maybe this explains why more were minted?

What about the Coast Guard? 🤔
Not their 250th anniversary...
Ah True.
But, it was the United States Coast Guard's 235th anniversary this past Monday!
Not bad...for the United States oldest continuously operating Naval Service!

Just got mine! Looks tight in the brown box.
I have your photos, thanks, for the vicarious experience.

Shot it raw, so it must be a piece of lint laying on the ASE itself.
