Lol its now been reported that the Memphis safety who was kicked off the team sent the defensive play calls to the UTSA QB before the game last year that Mephis gave up 44 points and lost. Text messages have been leaked. I dont know how Purdue where he is now doesnt immediately kick him off the team.

Toughest schedule will do that. GO DAWGS!!
Toughest schedule is in the BIG Ten. Sec no longer the best conference. Ohio State should be #1
Toughest schedules are in the SEC. 4 of the top 5 are SEC schools and 7 of the top 10 based on the coaches poll. Florida is number 1 and Wake has the easiest power 4 schedule this year
As far as 1 and 2 preseason coaches poll playing week one Id be surprised if that wasnt the first time in the modern era

Wrong. Sec teams are always overranked in the pre season polls, and that gives them a undeserving advantage. The only reason Alabama is at #8 is because of brand name only. Georgia and LSU are also too high. Ohio State should be number one, not Texas. Ohio State beat Texas on their field in the playoffs. BIG TEN has proved the last two years on the field that they are the best conference.

Rosters change every year. I wont argue with you that I dont like Bamas coach being to friendly and not benching Milroe last year when he lost them a a game, but no they are not always over ranked and put the most players in the NFL every year
Everyone without sec goggles know the sec teams are overranked. Please tell me how in the World why Texas A@M and Florida are ranked? Both finished with 5 losses last year. Its a joke.

Las Vegas agrees with you. Ohio State is favored over Texas in week 1, making Texas the first ever #1 to be an underdog in their opening game of a season.

That is pretty crazy, Ohio State lost a lot of kids to the draft, like their starting QB and both running backs

Pretty big game for week 1 either way
They reload every year. And they still have Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs.
The first few weeks of every NCAA season can be hard to predict for reasons mentioned by @perkdog, lot of teams lose key players. Ohio State or Texas could lose that game and still end up playing in the Championship.

This happened in 1988 as well. Defending National Champions Miami Hurricanes #6 opened as the betting favorites against #1 Florida State. Florida State made an awful rap video before the season started, and Jimmy Johnson showed the video to the team before the game. Canes blew them out 31-0.

Yep you can definitely still be a champion even if you lost 2 games now

Last year, Ohio State lost two games by a combined 4 points. It all depends on how you lose sometimes.

For the most part and for most teams it is a matter of "WHEN" you lose, at least it used to be with the old playoff system. If a team lost early they could work their way back up in the polls, but a loss late in the season could be a death blow. With their last two Championships, in 2014 and 2024, the Buckeyes exposed the flaw in the way the playoff was in the past and reasons why it needed(and still needs) to be expanded. Until the NCAA finds the right number of teams to involve and the most fair way to determine who those teams are we won't always have the best teams playing for the prize.
Right now, and this is just my opinion, there are teams riding higher in the polls based on their past and other teams who are overlooked because they have no "history" to be considered. Consistent current performance should really be all that matters.

I think I'm looking forward to the heated debates here just as much as I am the games lol
In this battle of unproven QBs I’m going to take Manning coming out on top. But probably going to be a game won by Texas d-line.

Proves the sec homers really come out hot and heavy on voting day, to help the other sec teams SOS. What an embarrassment

Will Ohio State beat Michigan this year??
That is secondary to a National Championship by a small margin I'm thinking!
I hope they beat Michigan, but I'll take a natty any day of the week. Being #1 is more important than any regular season win.
