interesting, the 2000-W space 22kt Sacagawea’s also did not have markings on them to signify the gold content or fineness.

It's not really that interesting. They were struck using existing dies. They were not designed to be a gold coin for general release. It is expensive to make a new hub for 39 specimens

That’s why these are extra cool. The public finally gets one.

    I agree

Always liked the 2000 W struck in Philly actual gold Saq.
I am happy to see there is no fineness details added, though it won't surprise me if this detail gets added on reverse die just like 2016 three-coin 24k unc issues have.
I would have preferred the 2025W were issued in unc like the 2016's instead of proof as I am not of fan of current laser etched dies proof die production.

I heard that the Mint will be randomly inserting 12 pcs of the original "Space Flown" Golden Sacagaweas into the current shipments as a kind of a lottery THANK-YOU to its loyal customers. ;)

    Or,
    instead,
how about the 27 of 39 made in 1999 at Philly Mint for 2000 West Point that they "destroyed"

Or, how about 200 of the 7500 were struck with the Cheerios design?

I remember when I first got into modern gold & the 2006 20th anniv 3 coin AGE set was $2600. It would be about 13k today. Crazy.

If my memory is correct, gold was around $550 an ounce then. For $2600, I could have had 5 ounces of gold which would be equivalent to $16,500 today.

Im actually pretty jazzed about this issue. Unlike the gold kennedy half or the 2016 Centennial issues of the dime, quarter, and walking half, I think this one is a little more interesting.

The Kennedy and Walking half gold coins were a pass for me but I jumped on this SAC gold without hesitation.

What transpire you to act on it?

I was on the fence till 'First Pitch" and decided to go for it, having admired some of Glenna Goodacre other works.

Imagine holding a pattern of Morgan or Seated dollar in gold, would that be thrilling?
Now a collector can have a SAC dollar that is the first and only (among all ever minted US dollar coins) struck in gold.
    🙂

Yes and how she decided to get paid in SAC coins. As a result, collectors were having an opportunity to acquire GG special finished coins (1 of 4000 in ICG holder).

    *5000

Almost forgotten her initial payment from the mint.

    http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page24.html

"A commission of $5,000 was offered to each designer of the obverse and reverse of the golden dollar. On April 5, 2000, Glenna Goodacre, designer of the obverse of the Sacagawea dollar, was paid her commission of $5,000 with specially produced Sacagawea Dollars. They were delivered to her Santa Fe, New Mexico studio by Mint Director Phil Diehl. He was joined by other Mint personnel and two Mint guards. Thomas Rogers, designer of the reverse, was not entitled to the commission because he was employed by the Mint as an engraver. The 5,000 Sacagawea dollars given to Ms. Goodacre are different from the ones found in circulation. They were struck on burnished planchets, giving them a proof-like or "Specimen" appearance. They were struck with higher than normal pressure by polished dies. They were also treated with an antioxidant to help preserve their appearance."

If you ever go there, there are 5 or 6 bronze Goodacre sculptures in downtown Albuquerque that showcase Glenna Goodacre's talent.

Besides the 5,000 Goodacre dollars that have the SP finish, there were some that had an experimental finish with a sintered look. I received one of them initially but returned it to the distributor for replacement because I wanted coins with the proof-like finish.

@KOYNGUY knows the exact numbers of this & that concerning the 5,000 Goodacre payment Dollars:

Total Specimens, total non specimens as he was involved in their encapsulations.

I got shut out, or rather they sold out quick. So I signed up for notifications if they come available again. And since I got no email, I say….. they’re baiting us.

That seems to be with everything now, because they are very aggressively purging ineligible orders, AND holding off on raising the HHLs. I like it.

That was the goal of the mint. Only recently have they finally figured out how to achieve it.

Guessing there won't be anything like the V75 AGE again.

The Flowing Hair privy will probably be the only venue for something like that in the future. The Mint will get the big $ up front. Folks won't have a shot at such a score at normal issue price like the V75 AGE. Time will tell.

No, you're right. I think the new model for prizes will be what they did with the silver FH privies, i.e., randomly seeding them into the population.

The V75 AGE had a pop of 1945, and they let us kill each other for them. The world has changed, even from just a few years ago, with respect to the prevalence of bots, and there is no fair way to distribute that number without a lottery today, given how 8K regular gold FH coins disappeared in 3 minutes.

They solved for 8K, as we recently saw with the gold Sac, and even for 100K, as with the Army privies, by aggressively purging ineligible orders after the fact and adding them back into inventory. But they could never solve for 2K. It's too small a number for any of us to ever get if we had to compete with bots. So they would just be taking orders, and then canceling them the next day. Over and over, without most of us ever getting a shot without using an automated bot.

The silver FH privy had a pop of 1794. Pretty close to 1945, so it's a decent proxy for what they would do in the future for something with a similar mintage. Lottery rather than free for all.

230 gold privies is another animal altogether, and the Mint knows it. If they are going to do anything similar in the future, like doing 250 of anything next year for the Semiquincentennial, they are not going to give the value away, by lottery or otherwise.

They'll do it by auction, as with the 230 gold FH privies, so it's not worth talking about for most of us. In fact, after seeing what happened with after auction prices the last time, and how they have held since, prices at auction would likely be far higher than the last time around.

This is the next best thing. I think they should have done an uncirculated and reverse proof version.

Was getting waiting room this morning too, for a minute or less. Maybe they are trialing it out for the silver proof set? No need for it, it was up for about an hour this morning.
