The first is a large format Official Medal from the CPIE held in Chicago during 1933-34 with an edge inscription to Nellie Tayloe-Ross. This ground breaking woman was not only the 1st Female Director of the Mint, but prior to that she was the 1st woman elected Governor of a U.S. state.

The next is a medal from the Pan American Exposition held in Buffalo in 1901 and awarded to Bela L. Pratt, designer of the $2.50 and $5 Gold coins. Interestingly, this was awarded some 7-8 years prior to issuance of the coins and Mr. Pratt was much more well known as a sculptor/artist.

Thirdly is an Erie Canal Completion medal in silver, HK-1000, with a Provenance going back to John J. Ford, Jr. Since there were a limited number of silver medals struck with the intent of distributing them to "he President, Heads of Departments, Foreign ministers, Governors of States, &c" it would be interesting to know who the recipient was of this example.

    Awesome medals.

I think you meant that Nellie Tayloe-Ross was the first female Director of the Mint.

@jmlanzaf is correct, I absent-mindedly omitted female and have since corrected it.

It wasn't the spelling (damn autocorrect) It was the title. She wasn't the First Director of the Mint. It's fixed now
