I'm going Thursday and Friday. Going to finally get Richard Dent to sign his rookie card and the Bears team items I have. I almost have the entire 1985 Bears team autographs. Just missing Dave Duerson.
Also going to get my Billy Williams rookie card signed on Friday, and then submit all of the autographed cards I have to PSA.
After that first inning with Boyd on the mound I was thinking it was going to be a rough night for the crew. Priester tonight. scrap-heap to top of the rotation talent acquired for next to nothing from the Red Sox. They don't all work out, but when they do...

Our scrap-heaper Colin Rea could be lights out or serving up free souvenirs to the bleachers tonite. Which guy will show up? I cringe.
I have often considered attending, but I just cant justify the cost. I can buy a lot of cards i need on the bay for the money i would be spending on airfare, hotel, food, car rental, entry fee etc.
If I lived within driving distance, you can bet I would be there
I have watched about 15-20 pack or box breaks on YOUTUBE and not once have I seen someone make a correct decision by opening the items. The only success I ever see is from Chris.
What I see is damaged cards from the gum, cards way off center, printing defects, and when a card does look nice (PSA8/9 contender) the card is a common.

So because Cleveland had bad AC on the first two days you'll never go again ?!
Ok, only cheating yourself.
I don't think it was so much the heat from the weak A/C that's being referenced. It was more like so many bodies were in the place you were feeling body heat and you could smell everybody's breath and know if they used deodorant. Just overcrowded.
The lines to the bathroom could take 20 minutes to get through so you had to plan ahead. Then the overall quality of the product being sold felt almost shockingly weak given this was The National and you expect to see Grade A stuff. I went for a couple days and could not find one sports card I wanted to spend money on. Bought some new Topps Chrome baseball boxes and that was a lot of fun but dont need to go to The National for that. It may be that these days the strategy is get there first and clean out the quality stuff. I have heard that.
I hope for everybody's sake who goes that Chicago is awesome and different than 2024. But I probably am done with The National too unless it comes to Baltimore again. The 2010s Nationals just felt so so different and so much more fun than what 2024 was.
I have heard that prices are generally high at the National. probably not a great place to look for cards unless you are in search of something quite rare or unique. If I were to ever go, I would probably get some autos from the in person signers and then treat the rest of the show like a museum.
I am not an unopened collector, but after reading posts here for many many years, I consider myself an unopened ¨appreciator¨ I think it is super cool and would like to check out the unopened at the show. one youtube vid I just watched showed an older gent who was set up and had an unbelievable table full of old unopened. He even had an unopened National Chicle football pack!!! those must be super rare.
I would also spend quite a bit of time over at the BBCE area and check out their setup.
They have food vendors, fudge vendors , beer vendors and multiple rooms and floors. A whatnot breaker area where every 20 yr old with a microphone tries to be louder than the one next to him. They have golf and football games to win tshirts and packs. They even have a kid trade zone where LOTS of $$ exchanges hands. My 15 yr old loves it. We got to the show at 3pm yesterday and got back to hotel at midnight. The hotel next door had 'trade night" which is people in a lobby all buying and selling.
We go home on Saturday so today and tomorrow we will be at the show.
My reward for being an awesome dad is portillos and deep dish at night.

If you have the time, I would appreciate it if you could post some photos of any hard to find wax pack trays at bbce booth or anywhere at the national... thank you.

I have not seen tough ones..just the usual 1979s plus a couple fake 1979 hockey trays.

Going Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun. Can’t wait!
I’m going to try and make it Friday, Saturday and Sunday pending on if I’m pouring concrete for the big shop.
Vintage Rookies
Wed (preview), Thurs, Fri, Sat
After last years sweat box, I'll never go to another National.
Are you going to the Cubs game on Friday?
You mean the Brewers game.
Fightins vs. White Sox Wednesday afternoon, National Thursday for me.
I stopped going several years ago. As a vintage player you can’t buy anything nice raw and graded is way overpriced.
Have fun to those going!
Will get there one day.
Yes I am.
Cubs play the O's on Friday.
My bad. Time for me to relearn my days of the week. Oof.
It was the Brewers game tonight. Ooof.
Farewell Ryno.

He's from Minnesota. We've evolved to be best suited to a lower average temperature than most. What is 80F to most feels like 130F to a Minnesotan.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Its funny, I was just going to start a thread about that abomination of a pack opening.
it is too bad that a historical pack was ruined all in order to get clicks/views.

I know Steve Hart loves the heck out of setup days, he doesn't need to pick 'em out of a crowd, they just walk right up and say "Here, take my money".
Farewell Ryno.

I noticed the older man’s unopened were all raw….buyer beware. I would only buy PSA-slabbed unopened.
How to turn $5000 into $10
good point!! part of the reason i dont buy unopened.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
If UFFDAH had a youtube channel I would subscribe and watch, but that Wilson guy... he bothers me.
Wow
Awesome
Thanks, coins packs for the pictures. Impressive unopened items!
Talking about pissing your money away!
St Louis to Chicago isn't bad..
Anyone have pictures of the next case down? The one with the grocery rack boxes and some of the early 80's stuff?
kevin
Thanks!
kevin
