Contest status: OPEN
Drawing: pending; on or after 21 August 2025
Shipping status: pending
Winner's receipt: pending

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The prize for this contest will be a mystery at first. As of this writing, not even I know what it will be! On August 1st, I will be visiting my friend @Aethelred 's shop, WNC Coins, in western North Carolina, and there, based on the suggestions from this thread, I will purchase a prize item worth between $35 and $50 USD. Then we'll reveal the prize and have the drawing for it later, on or after the 21st of the month.
Update: prize revealed below (scroll down), but contest still open for entries until 8/21/25.
To enter: Just mention some things you might like to see as a $35-50 prize, broadly speaking. A US coin? A nice proof set? A nice World coin, maybe slabbed? Old? Modern? Silver? Ancient? Just throw out some ideas. Of course none of us know what I will actually find once I get to the shop, but in the meantime, it'll be fun to see what ideas you have.
The random drawing will be held on or shortly after Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Totally free: the contest is free of charge, open to everyone, with free worldwide shipping. The only thing I ask is that you do please post to this thread later, when you have received the prize, so that we'll know you got it (that helps me keep track).
Good luck!
Numismatic regards,
~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("LordM")
    Thanks for the drawing. My favorite cons are the FEC & the IHC. I have a Photo Certificate graded IHC which I really like. Appreciate the drawing opportunity.
    A raw circulated silver coin with that circ cameo look with original skin, late 1800’s to early 1900’s, would be a great coin for this giveaway. Thanks for the chance.
    BTW, if any of you do CoinTalk, I'm doing the same thing over there. You have to post on CoinTalk to enter that one, but by so doing, you'll effectively double your chances, since that contest will have a totally separate prize from this one.
    For gold, a tiny Indian fanam could be done in the $35-50 range, maybe, but I dunno if WNC Coins will have any.
    A nice circ semi-key in any obsolete series. An album coin, not slabbed. This takes me back to my roots.
  • JeffersonFrogJeffersonFrog Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭✭✭
    An interesting giveaway approach. How about an MS65 slabbed Mercury? Lots of folks love Mercs, and I'm always amazed at how inexpensive slabbed gems are. Shoot, for some dates you can get an MS66 for under $50. My five cents.
    If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.
    Mystery revealed!
    OK, it’s time to reveal the prize. Pickings were slim on early Type coins at the shop. Sure, there were a few Seated coins and a Flying Eagle and stuff, but they had issues.
    I settled on seven large cents that had just come in from an old collection. Note the crazy low prices on the holders! My dealer friend paid $15 apiece for them and is wholesaling them to me.
    Here’s the prize:
    The winner of the drawing will receive two (2) of these large cents of my choice. One will be from the earlier dates in the top row in the photo below and one will be from the later dates in the bottom row.
    That should easily attain the promised $35-50 value.
    So the prize is no longer a mystery. But if you have not already done so, you may still enter this giveaway by just saying you want in. We will have the drawing on or after August 21st.
    They’re hard to see in the picture, but they’re reasonably decent circulated examples with no major problems.
