I have 3 different slabbed Coronet Head large cents in my Type sets, here they are. I’m also putting together a Coronet Head large cents album in a custom album that The_dinosaur_man made but no pictures yet. I received the album about a month ago after I won in a giveaway, but I’m still looking for the rest of my raw large cents to fill it up more before taking pictures. I found some, but I know I have several more somewhere that I was given as a gift from my wife’s aunt that had been in their family since from when they were set aside from circulation back in the days.

This started out as a single needed entry into my type set. I bought these first two (the 1821 and the 1836) from Pierre Fricke at the Pittsburgh ANA a few years back. Both Coronet Heads but both very distinctly different heads. Soon after this Eliasberg Silly Head came up for auction at GC and I won it for a song. Then this Booby Head came up at Stacks in an NGC 65RD holder and I bought that too cheaply as well, especially since it crossed and became the top pop for the variety with only two coins graded red. With the two different types of 1839 already in-hand, I thought it would be fun to try and collect all five different heads of 1839; the hardest one being the Newcomb-1. I managed to find that one at Shawn Yancey’s table at the Pittsburgh EAC. Two to go. The ‘39 head of ‘40 has been elusive in high grade. I saw a 65BN at Early Cents a couple years ago, priced too high and dark, I walked away. Later that day I came back and it was gone. No leads on the ‘39 head of ‘38 yet either. Love this hobby!

There seems to be some confusion about the difference between the “Coronet head” and the “Braided hair” types on this thread. Look under the Liberty headband. If it’s a rope, it’s Braided Hair, if it’s wavy hair, it’s a Coronet Head. 😉👍🏻

Yes, we’ve had some Braided Hairs creep in, but maybe close enough.

@lordmarcovan, if that’s your representative piece, you picked a great one! That date is underrated and much scarcer in AU/Unc than the usually encountered Randall hoard coins.

Some very attractive cents here gang. Congrats to you all. I have many, far lower grades, but this one interested me most due to the counterstamp. I found one on ebay today higher grade, same date and same counterstamp. Kind of odd gear shaped counterstamp.

This is my best one, from the Randal Hoard.
And this was a recent purchae at Summer FUN. It was the last coin I needed to complete a cent date set, 1793 to 2024.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?6 -

None yet, but there is another 1823 Coronet Head One Cent on ebay with the similar gear counterstamp. I've looked everywhere I know of online to find info, but none yet. Below is the one on ebay with same looking 7 prong gear, way above my price range.

I need to update the pic... the 1835 (Head of '36) came back PCGS XF45BN and the 1838 from my Type Set came back PCGS AU55BN... and I got the 1839/6 in PCGS VG10 CAC...

No worries, I had four myself once, but sold one of the two high grade coins to Reynolds. The other is in my set, and the other two lower grade coins are in my stock box of dupes.
