Hi
I have two pickups - here's the first. 1970 Topps
I picked up a wrapper proof years ago from the Toppsvault and just picked up the actual wrapper.

?????
Robbie
1963 Fleer
Lou Brock Master Set
This one is large - I would consider my own thread - but with some stuff there's the potential of crickets which even tho I've been here for a minute? I have to say it's a little embarrassing?
1988 Classic Network Promo Cards
I picked up the Koufax many years ago and had no idea where or what it was - just liked it. I contacted our good friend Bob Lemke who had no idea on it. Fast forward to recently and I got AI involved and came up with the following information:
Overview: The 1988 Classic Network promo card set appears to be an ultra-limited, cross-sport promotional release possibly tied to a proposed TV licensing deal or commemorative concept. The cards feature iconic athletes from multiple sports and were later reissued with design changes in 1997. The original 1988 cards are identifiable by their colored borders, while the 1997 reissues are full-bleed.
Key Characteristics of the 1988 Originals:
The Full Set:
And here's the pickups to complete the set:
My bad Robbie - just edited - these are from 1970 - the first is the proof on cardboard stock and the other is an actual wrapper I just got in the mail.
Never seen them but they chose some amazing photos for those cards! WOW. Very cool.
Thanx and the back will give you a hint to the origin - this was a "regional" Cable outfit obviously doing this for attraction?
Boog Powell rookie card. The back says "The Orioles are expecting big things from this rookie slugger". I'd say he came through pretty well as he collected 303 HR, 243 doubles and an MVP award in 13 full seasons with the O's before finishing out his career with Cleveland and LA. A big favorite of mine growing up:
Good selection - I agree, a solid career IMO.
Ya know? I didn't realize his name was John - all these years and a first for me. Thanx for sharing a nice card buddy.
I did not realize Boog played for the Dodgers. Now someone has to make a 1978 Topps card of Boog on the Dodgers!
edit....google search found this.
I remember Classic Sports Network. If I am not mistaken ESPN bought them and renamed it ESPN Classic. They had old World Series games on there from the 50s and I was an avid watcher. For some reason after ESPN bought the network they stopped showing games in black and white so it trended much newer.
Truly beautiful cards.
Thanx Brad and you're spot on buddy. I left out some detail since I was already on the large size.
Jones Intercable, Inc. was a cable television provider based in the United States, founded by Glenn R. Jones in the early 1970s.
Classic Sports Network (CSN) was not a show but rather a full-fledged cable channel, launched in 1995 on Jones. It was created by Brian Bedol and Steve Greenberg to air vintage sports content—old games, classic moments, highlight reels, etc.
In 1997, ESPN (Disney) bought Classic Sports Network and rebranded it as ESPN Classic.
ESPN Classic stuck around for years, but it was eventually_ shut down in 2021_, as the world moved to streaming and demand dropped for linear sports reruns.
Similar to the 90s Liberty Sports set that seemed to be pretty tricky to find. Very cool.
Not a card, but he is featured in the 1977 Dodgers Photo Album, which has perforated photo "cards" that are removable with stats/bios on back. They are larger than a standard card, but not as large as many of the team issued photos. Around 4" x 5" or so.
I didn't realize Boog went to the Dodgers (when Art showed the 78T) Curt? IMO, a darn good player overall.
Next to him looks like Rick Monday. A little trivia? The first MLB draft was in 1965 and the "first" player selected was Monday.
Technically a June purchase but received July 1.
2 great additions to my Orr and Sanderson player sets and a very rare 1961-62 Boston Bruins Media Guide in incredible condition. Overpaid for both but at the end of the day, I never remember the cost, only the enjoyment of owning some very nice items.
This 1969 Stanley Cup card signed by both Orr and The Turk bring my autograph total to 75 for Orr, 71 for Sanderson. Yup. I've got a problem...
Nothing wrong with that IMO. I've done it quite a few times - if I want something - especially if hard to find? I'm all in!
PS: I'm glad the flip has the names since I see Bull O...Loops & more Loops 16....Phil Fyuat 7. 😎
This is one you don't see too often: A 1972 Topps cloth sticker. I've always enjoyed the oddball items. Not as rare as 1970 cloth stickers but a fairly high grade (PSA graded all of them as 'hand cut' since none are found factory cut and all the '72's may have gone out the back door as sheets). It is blank backed. Another of my favorite players from the '60's-early '70's, the Capitol Punisher:
I finally finished off my graded 1971 Topps Cincinnati Reds team set. I added this really nice 1971 Pete Rose PSA 7. The rest of my set is all PSA 8 but didn't want to shell out 2K for a PSA 8 Rose.
I took a chance on some beat up 70s basketball cards at a flea market. $10 total. Think I can make my money back?
I think what you got there is at least a PSA 8 Rose in a PSA 7 holder. Really nice!!
I was going to say the exact same thing. Well-played not buying the holder.
rose psa 7 looks as great as most psa 8 do. great card.
Two months ago I picked up this one…

…and then this month I nabbed this one…

…and I had some time this past week so I cracked out the former and then cleaned both up so here’s some ‘after’ photos:
THE SGC ONE:

THE RAW ONE:

Given these are from 1964 and were hand cut from a Rawlings Super 8 Glove box, my goal was simply to clean up the edges and produce some sharp corners while removing as little of the card as possible. I’d guess both would grade out no better than a PSA 2 and maybe just ‘Authentic’ for one or both but I think they have much nicer eye appeal in their present form.
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

I like Flair Nic. I bought a bunch in 1993 - I think that might be the first year?
I'm guessing the thick stock made cutting tough - leading to chips on the corners.
Hi Mike! Yes, 1993 was the first year. These do have thick stock, that is for sure! Red borders do make it tough!

No Whammies! Ok, just one Whammy. Milestone time, 200 more to go to finish the set.

Unfortunately, a card that has no centered copies and the highest graded imho will always be a 7 slash 9(oc).
Somehow I missed that Kaat got into the hall, so I had to buy these cards to add to my hall of fame set.

Sweet. I've always been a fan of Kaat. Don't think I ever noticed until now the 68 and 69 were the same photo!
There were over 100 cards from 1969 that used the same photo (many cropped) as 1968.
which cards are left on your list of griffeys. great card!
2001 Bowman #135 total pop of 15
2004 Leaf #124 total pop of 8
2005 SP Authentic #58 total pop of 14
2006 Flair Showcase #140 total pop of 8
2007 Bowman #85 total pop of 7
So, they are out there…. I guess..

Can’t imagine the cards are rare. Art they just rarely graded?
HOF SIGNED FOOTBALL RCS
Cool pickup off marketplace last week. First MJ.
HOF SIGNED FOOTBALL RCS
Won these last night. I now only need 5 more PSA 9's from the 1979 set to have all of the Hall of Famers plus Munson in PSA 9.
Some recent vintage LCS pickups.
I'm a fan also - he has 16 Gold Gloves - only Maddux has more at 18.
Just rarely graded. Most of the ones left are tough to get high grades, so very few are graded. These pops are much better than the pre-Covid pops. Most of these would have been under 5 total graded.

A couple more for the HOF set.....

The Maynard card is super! Sure brings back memories - thanx for sharing.
8 more for the 61 auto set:

Just purchased this today.
Nice to see you got it - I saw you were looking for one on the B/S/T board. Great card!!
I will always love that NR card. Probably my favorite of all his.
That's a great copy.
Thanks for the kind words. I watched Ryan pitch in person many times as I live 20 minutes from Angel stadium. Best game I watched him pitch in person was in 1979. He shut out the Yankees and Ron Guidry 1-0. This was the year following Guidry's legendary 25-3 season and also the last year for Thurmon Munson.
