Do Some Pattern Dies Get Intentionally Defaced? Judd-240

currently on Ebay and I certainly don't want to impune anyone else's coin....here is the TrueView:
I know these can come with quite a bit of die rust evidence on the reverse, but what is going on with the mouth area on the obverse?? I first thought it was a chopmark
It is straight-graded for those wondering

Sorry I don't have any information or knowledge on this. But it is kind of cool looking.
I checked Heritage archives (they have the image shown that enlarges when hovered over) and don't see another one. Aslo don't see the rust the OP noted on the reverse. HA sort link below.
Also looked as some of the non-HA at the pcgs auction archives and similarly didn't find anything. But did not look at a lot of them. Didn't see any signs of rust or die chip on others that might have been 'repaired' (used loosely).
Bottom is an enlargement of the OP and link to cert verification.

Very strange. I cannot think of any reason why they would have done this.
This coin was previously in a NGC details holder as 'obverse scratched'.

In the PCGS images it looks like a die issue though and not PMD. US patterns notes that these were restruck from rusted dies in the 1860s and 1870s. Perhaps the die was damaged either intentionally or otherwise sometime before striking, but odd that this seems to be the only example showing this issue.
Edit: Looking closer it's possible the scratch NGC made mention of wasn't referring to the apparent die gouge near the lips, but instead what could be a scratch running through the forehead and right obverse field. Still an interesting coin.
Interesting @TrickleCharge

Looks like a variation of the Bugs Bunny half!

That is very strange. Definitely looks intentional. This pattern has the most rusted dies of any struck coin I've seen.
I can't seem to find another example of a J-240 with the same lip damage.
